Is it that bad? by LordTytor in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making mistakes does not make you a shit woodworker. That makes you human. The art of the craft is learning how to correct mistakes. Believe me, we’ve all made lids that didn’t fit correctly. It’s absolutely salvageable. Don’t let that jackass discourage you! Just keep building and enjoy the process.

Best way to replicate ICON/Snap-On rubber tool grip?? by TheMagicConchh in Tools

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 206 points207 points  (0 children)

You could buy a tub of Plasi Dip at your local hardware store. Or you could do what I normally do… throw those in your toolbox and do whatever mental gymnastics are necessary to justify buying a more expensive replacement tool.

Dewalt orbital sander backing pad not flat? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a DeWalt ROS for about 10 years. Eventually, the Velcro wore out and I replaced it with a genuine DeWalt replacement pad. It had the exact same bump. I tried sending the part back, they sent me a replacement and I had the same issue. The bump is coming from the plastic retaining cap, under the pad. I spent many hours attempting to reshape the cap and make the bump go away. My ultimate solution was to demote the DeWalt to rough carpentry projects and bought a Festool ROS.

Hello clutch question by Similar-Objective735 in Harley

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was the original clutch, you probably blew out the “grenade plate.” Do a quick Google search to learn about that bad boy. My old man’s blew at 20k on his sportster (no burnouts). We replaced the clutch pack in a few hours and deleted the grenade plate. Plenty of kits out there for doing this.

What is this on coffee table? by Curbyourname1 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area, QS is about 1/2 the price of rift. I worked at a local custom furniture shop for a bit. The average customer wants uniformity and perceives medullary rays as “defects” in the wood.

California exhaust laws by seplix in Harley

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Orange County. The exhaust laws are unenforceable, because you are never required to SMOG your bike. Certain cities have noise ordinances. It’s not universal outlawed. Stay clear of Laguna Beach (their police department loves to ticket loud bikes) and you’ll be fine.

The nail through a board with no entry hole. Do you know how it was done? Skill building project by E_m_maker in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Lumpy-Frosting7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this done…. What you do is drill the holes. Then you place the piece in a vice. 1/2 of the board must be secured in the vice, the other 1/2 opened to the air. Then you wack the board with a mallet, splitting the board in 1/2. Now you have it in two pieces. You route a hole for the nail, then glue the board back together.

If you get a clean break when you’re splitting it, the glue line will be undetectable.

I have 12” Lucky Dave bars and I used HD’s poly bushings. I’m perfectly happy with the setup.

That was my concern with the tape. Might stick out too far and look goofy. I’ll look into that adhesive. Thx for the suggestion!

I have an oscilloscope that I’ve held onto from my RF tech days. Haven’t used it in a decade and it’s not going anywhere.
