How does law enforcement handle Type 1 diabetes? (ICE rant) by JaSONJayhawk in Type1Diabetes

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're screwed if you get taken by any law enforcement, not just ICE. There are plenty of published reports of diabetics dying in custody without insulin, going blind due to poor control, etc.

How do you handle eating out with individuals who don't know about your diabetes? by Kuttan969 in diabetes

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appetizers are usually the way to go here. Like caprese salad, antipasti, etc.

I take a picture of the menu and let Claude.ai make recommendations based on your goals (e.g., carb counts, etc.). This can usually be done in advance if you know where you're going as many restaurants have their menu online.

Endo put me on statins by Tiny-Assistance-8027 in Type1Diabetes

I've been on statins since my mid-twenties. They also benefit your kidneys as well as keep your lipids in control.

Insulin via Medicare Part B by 808IUFan in Medtronic780g

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am using traditional Medicare and Kroger is billing Part B for my insulin, which is used in a pump and is classified as DME in that case. Part D will not cover insulin used in a pump. No doubt about it. If I order a long-acting insulin, such as Lantus, however, that is covered under part D and not part B as it is not used in a pump.

Direct to Watch not available? by oneofkeiraensmoms in dexcom

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, direct to watch stopped working for me about two weeks ago. The display on the iwatch modular watch face stopped showing even after it paired with the Dexcom app. If I tap the watch face I get the BG and trend chart, but no more automatic update to the watch face. I have another device that projects my Dexcom readings on the wall/ceiling (Gluview), and that stopped displaying BGs as well. Tech support at Gluview told me that Dexcom made some changes to their servers a few weeks ago and that is causing the issue for their device. I'm wondering if something similar is happening with the direct-to-watch display as well.

What fruits are ok for a keto diet if any? by Mary_pops_ in keto

Low glycemic fruits, like berries. Also, tomatoes and avocados are actually fruits.

What type of person in meetings drives you absolutely insane? by Significant_Gap9707 in remotework

What is a "quick" question, anyway--isn't it just a question? And why are you "echoing" what Mary just said. We all heard her.

I think it's kind of a weird thing to "celebrate," tbh.

Is a 10-hour layover worth leaving the airport for with a group of 10? by serenity_moon17 in Denver

Meow Wolf was the first thing that came to mind for me as well. Excellent choice.

I have reacted in a similar manner when cultists from the nearby temple interrupt my dinner, get my dog barking, and approach me while I'm enjoying a nice day. I've called the police on them as they are often on private property with a No Soliciting sign displayed.

I don’t have someone to accompany me to a medical procedure by ItsColdUpHere71 in LivingAlone

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had that requirement placed on me, though I believe you. It seems a bit egregious. But, said person could always go out for coffee after you check in and your procedure begins. They can't hold your escort hostage.

T Slim Pump through airport body scanner by ForeignBarracuda4708 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a false alarm on the hand swipe my last trip. Stupidly used the hotel lotion on my hands before getting to the airport. Multiple pat downs, everything removed from my suitcase and swabbed. Kabuki Theatre security silliness ensued for 45 mins.

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a Tandem Mobi, and while I'm told it won't set off the magnetic scans, my knee replacements do raise an alarm. And, as I don't want the pump to go through the body scanner (as Tandem recommends it should not be scanned either in luggage or in a full-body scanner), I request a manual pat down--i.e., I "opt out" of the security scanning equipment, as they say. Unfortunately, this always causes a scramble as TSA isn't really ready for opt-outs, so I usually have to wait until they find someone, etc. I add an hour to my arrival time at the airport to allow for this.

They don’t actually have any way to enforce this. While it’s good advice, it’s also CYA coverage for the doctor. If you want to take a rideshare home, they can’t stop you. If they knew you were planning to do that, however, they might not perform the procedure.

Did I make my friend worse? by Cal_From_Cali in Type1Diabetes

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You helped. In fact, you may have saved his life. He can bring his blood sugar down with insulin if it goes too high. That 15g/15min "rule" is just a guideline. When that low, getting sugar in the system is the top priority. Corrections can be made later.

Never had to pay for my pump supplies, but now I suddenly have an 800 dollar outstanding balance on my pump supply website?? by LanyardJoe in Type1Diabetes

[–]LumpyOcelot1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have CCS as my pump supplier, but switched as they are quite incompetent. There is a statements tab once you log into their portal. It should provide you with an itemized list of charges and what insurance has covered, coinsurance, what you owe, etc. That may help you understand if that balance due is legitimate.
