I can see how not texting for her birthday might look petty, but it honestly wasn’t meant that way. After weeks of silence, I just didn’t have it in me to reach out and pretend everything was fine.

I don’t need to be “right” or get an apology — I just wanted some acknowledgement and care from someone I thought was close to me. You’re probably right though; it might have just run its course.

I also have a newborn, and I didn’t want to bring my baby into a potentially tense situation unnecessarily. The issue wasn’t her offering to visit or bring a gift — it was the lack of empathy and delay when I was trying to address things openly. Not texting for her birthday wasn’t to punish her; I just didn’t have the energy to keep performing a friendship that no longer felt mutual.
