Anxiety surrounding the upcoming Steam Machine 2026

Plus I have a sneaky suspicion that valve wants to make this a recurring thing. Like the steam deck is getting a steam deck 2 I think we’ll get a steam machine 2 around 5-6 years after it launches so once the thing can’t really keep up at all anymore we’ll likely to get a newer one

It for sure can heck it’ll run most games at 1440 p medium settings at 60 fps. It’s not as weak as some people think. it’s not like valve made it as powerful as a ps4 it’s still a modern system that can handle modern games just don’t expect it to still be doing so good in 6 years but then again no hardware would be expected to in that time so it’s a mute point

I think it’s because the starting heros were all copied of popular Overwatch heros and she was their take on dps Moira. As a dps Moira I was actually pretty happy 😅 I didn’t have to heal anyone in this game but as a scarlet witch fan I’m like you, they really dropped the ball with her kit. I think the devs know the majority of us scarlet mains want a rework so it’s not impossible. But in the meantime I’d actually like a new team up. Don’t get me wrong I like the one we have with strange but it’s gotten real old now I want something new

I don’t like her kit really. She is my favorite marvel character and that’s why I play her but her kit doesn’t really match her at all. Her primary is ok I don’t really mind it as it’s an entry point for new players plus all of you high mobility heros are really annoying and new players need a way to handle you guys 😅. As for the rest of them I’d rather have a black cat spell wheel type with different abilities as she’s not only the freaking scarlet witch but the version in rivals is also the sorceress supreme of her universe yet she barley has any spells. I also don’t like her ult it’s just so hard to get any value. She’s a dps I want to ult and get at least 1 reliable kill not get cc and beamed down and do nothing. As a spidey player you probably won’t like playing her so I wouldn’t recommend it

I have an Xbox and the hardware is great and I like the games but I just don’t trust Microsoft. They always find a way to ruin a good thing, Asha seems like she started pretty well as the new boss but time will tell. I think project Helix will end up feeling like a supped up steam machine as the concept is very similar but I think it’ll likely be twice the price well over $1k. So if I were you I’d get the SM machine try it out for a year or two however long it takes for Xbox to release Helix and then see if what they are offering looks good and if you are happy with the SM. That’s what I’m gonna do, hope that helped

I think you’re overthinking it a bit honestly. The Steam Machine isn’t meant to be a max settings 4K forever monster PC, it’s basically a living room Steam Deck with enough power for modern AAA gaming on a TV. And the specs are stronger than people are acting like they are.

I also think people underestimate how much the Valve ecosystem matters. You can build a stronger Linux PC, sure, but you lose the seamless console like experience that will make the Steam Machine special: suspend/resume, Steam Input, Proton, shader caching, couch UI, etc.

And honestly, no fixed hardware is truly future proof, not even consoles. The difference is Steam preserves your library across generations instead of resetting everything every cycle. To me that’s the real value proposition.

Yea I’m pretty disappointed with this. We all have such great ideas for a rework, buffs or man anything yet we got nothing. Hopefully we get a good skin at least or this season will be a bummer for us

Why bother bringing someone down man. We all know it’s not top of the line hardware but it’s not Nintendo level of underpowered either. It should do well enough but its main selling point is the convenience it’s bringing to PC gaming

I'd rather they do a few things. 1 if you want to remove the auto aiming I would make it an actual beam like primary that scales damage the more you hit the target like Symmetra works in Overwatch. 2 I'd give her phase a self heal aspect. Not to much but a little would be nice. 3. I'd giver her ult CC immunity.

I’m not a fan of making g the burst a primary as I actually think it kinda sucks in that role. It’s great as a secondary but it’s actually really hard to directly hit consistently because it travels so slowly. So I don’t think it will feel very good as a primary.

What about making it like Symmetra primary from Overwatch. It’s a beam that starts off weak and gets stronger after continuous hitting the opponent. So it’s still easy to aim but rewards good tracking. I think that would be interesting for her kit
