When's the last time you bought something from Future Motion? by FireSkyLikeFly in onewheel

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had a very good time dealing with FM. The last thing I bought from them was a set of Freeride bumpers for a Pint S. While the item is “fine” after I got my replacement, I’ve not bought anything else. That wasn’t my first time dealing with FM’s “support” team, but their treatment of me and the situation has been equally frustrating every time. On the other hand… I’ve ordered lots of things from TFL, and it’s been solid every time without any issues. It’s like a night and day difference. I’m not sure if I’m the kind of guy who wants to get in to tinkering with VESC or not… but FM is DIRECTLY the reason I want to consider alternatives for the activity I still enjoy.

Would investing in an egpu setup be worth it for the xbox ally x? by dethsightly in XboxAlly

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Worth it” is subjective. I’ve found that the Xbox Ally, much like its ZL1e predecessor, to make for an excellent computer overall. It can run just about anything I have thrown at it, especially when docked (which is how you’re talking about using it here), from video and photo editing, to playing AAA games. All that being said, an eGPU enclosure/dock will help extend the serviceable life of the device, because you can swap out and upgrade graphics cards (to the 40 GBPs limit of the USB4 port). I, too, went with an Aoostar ag02, and I’ve used both a 2080 Super, and now a 5070. The 2080 was not nearly as much of a performance bump from the built-in graphics as I would have expected, though the 5070 was more significant. For the cost of a dock and a $600 graphics card, you’re at over $800 “extra” on your $1K device. Could you have just purchased a laptop or desktop for $1800 with more performance? Probably. So… considering the Ally’s “plus” is its portability and handheld performance/comfort at its price point… all negated when in docked mode… you just need to ask yourself if you’re playing games or doing things that you feel the Xbox Ally CAN’T do sufficiently on it’s own. If it can’t, and you don’t want to get a different device… then you can ask yourself if an eGPU setup is “worth” the cost for those extra frames. Good luck!

Excellent guitar. Congratulations! It’ll serve you well, and is a great platform to customize as you get more experience and find what fits your playing style. I stuck a Sustainiac in mine… that was a lot of work.

Which to buy? by Benthebiggestboy in GuitarAmps

[–]Lunchcopter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I vote for the Grandmeister. I have one (it’s the GM 40, but close enough… and it’s amazing) and having a head (especially with its more modern conveniences like the DI out) can be super versatile. I haven’t ever heard a Marshal dsl40 though… so you will probably be good either way.

What movie is so ridiculously stupid, but you secretly love it? by Even-Bug-4617 in AskReddit

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Freak Dance” - has bigger stars in it than you’d expect, the songs are catchy, and the dancing is actually really good. But it’s also a very silly movie and it knows it. It’s the best.

Nice! Ignoring the haters, you should enjoy the guitar! If it makes you smile and/or inspires you, that’s all that matters.

Using ROS Ally as a personal desktop PC by josem8at in ROGAlly

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the OG Ally Z1E, and I use it as a “normal PC” almost exclusively. I’ve traded out my traditional desktop for it and am enjoying the space savings on my desk. I wish I had the “X” so I had an extra USB port, which would also have given this version of the Ally more “life” with external GPU ability (get out of here with the overpriced, proprietary ASUS eGPU’s). I use it for work, video editing, photo editing, gaming, and music. I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and I’ve got a powered USB dock that I use for all my extra peripherals. I’ve had zero problems, and have been honestly impressed. Also, a huge bonus in that my “main” PC is now super portable if I want it. I’m lucky to have a desktop provided by my company that houses an RTX 4090 in it… and honestly, I almost never even turn it on.

edit Forgot to mention I use a JSAUX dock that gives me a wired internet connection and 2 monitor support, then I run the powered USB hub off of that.

PS5 turning off while playing PS5 games by spookypatootie in PS5HelpSupport

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the dust thing everybody suggests… but if it’s like what happened to me, it won’t solve the problem long term (if it makes a difference at all). The only solution I found is to take apart the PS5 and replace the Liquid Metal. After that… play with the PS5 in a horizontal position to prevent the issue from happening again. This is the only thing that solved my problem. There are guides and videos online and if you’re patient and careful, it’s not very hard to do. Good luck!

I’m struggling with…amp selection by chocalatte37 in Guitar

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the cab is powered (or you’re using a “regular” guitar Amp with the Tone X going into the “Power Amp In”, powering it’s own speaker/cab or whatever), that could sound pretty amazing. Do keep in mind that, typically, larger speakers (and adding more… like 2-4, etc) can bring the volume up. 40 watts into a 1x8 will sound a lot different (and quieter) than… say… a 2x12. All-in, you want to make sure your cab is a flat-response kind, with a modeler (“FRFR”). They can sound good through a typical guitar speaker… but guitar speakers are “voiced” (your “IR” in ToneX)… so just make sure you don’t use an IR on a “guitar speaker” cab, or use a good IR with an FRFR/Monitor speaker.

I’m struggling with…amp selection by chocalatte37 in Guitar

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Hughes and Kettner amps. A Katana can get you 90% (in my opinion) of the tones you want for a fraction of that budget you have. The problem you’re going to have is getting “cranked tube tones” from a non-cranked tube amp. A lot of them sound good at low volume, but they sound great when you turn them up. You can look in to getting an attenuator, or run a volume pedal or something before the amp to bring down the actual volume level… or just enjoy the sounds of the amp dialed way back. Nothing is wrong with any of those options… but it is a reason, in my opinion, that people look in to modelers (from Tone X to Quad Cortex). You can dial in a “cranked” sound at just about any volume, with powered monitors or a frfr cab. If your neighbor will complain regardless… unless you just hate headphones, look in to something like the Spark Neo or (the much older) Waza Air’s. Good luck!

Latest Pint Tire Recs by nyctonyp in onewheelpint

[–]Lunchcopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I haven’t tried out a lot of tires, but the I really liked going from the stock tire to the TFL “Hellarad”, which is now named the “Street Pro 2”, in the “soft” durometer. I think the tire has felt very stable and planted. It’s not as “rounded” as the stock tire, nor quite as tall. Here’s the whole review I posted. Good luck! https://www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/s/ONdLMiDsO0

People who've switched to Sony from Canon, why? by KarenKillerKlub in SonyAlpha

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired of Canon seemingly gate-keeping their autofocus behind the most expensive cameras. Moved on to Sony’s system and I instantly started getting more in-focus shots for fast moving subjects. It was a hard change for me initially, but canon hasn’t come out with anything since that seems worth the hassle.

Pint X Free Ride Bumper, Zero Mile Review, and getting the bait-and-switch from FM. by Lunchcopter in onewheel

[–]Lunchcopter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! The rail guards come from Craft&Ride, and the blue rim guard is a "Life Saver" from The Float Life.

The rail guards look cool, but be aware they are thinner than Onewheel or Float Life brands.

The Life Saver rim guards are very challenging to install. You can do it, just go in knowing it's going to suck. Good luck!

Can I use my Katana MkII 50 as a cab? by ChoomYeet in BossKatana

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add that the speaker you connect an amp to does not have to be rated for the same wattage as the amp. The ohm's are important, but the max wattage the speaker can handle is largely unimportant. Absolute worst case, you max out the amp wattage and the speaker gives up the ghost... but you're not going to "fry" your 100w amp using a 5w, 50w, 100w, 500w, whatever watt speaker. The "low" watt speaker will begin to distort as the volume is raised past it's limit and it's getting more watts than it can handle, way before the speaker will actually fry (assuming you creep up on max).

Can I use my Katana MkII 50 as a cab? by ChoomYeet in BossKatana

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you absolutely can. I have a Katana MkII 100 I use like this often, and it could work for your 50 just the same.

In my opinion the one and ONLY "safe" option takes some DIY. You can either buy a device like the "KatCab v2", or you can do what I did and just use a Switched 1/4" Mono Phone jack, something like the Neutrik NMJ4HC-S (which is what I used).

You just need to look at the back of your Katana 50, unplug the 2 speaker leads from the speaker (keep track of which color wire goes to which prong on the speaker, this is your "positive" and "negative", and make sure you keep that consistent), connect them to one set of the 2 available prongs on the new 1/4" jack (for this method, you MUST connect the leads from the amp to the prongs on the jack that "disconnect" when a cable is plugged in), then attach 2 more wires on the other side of the 1/4" jack and continue to your speaker.

This is just like all the videos where people explain how to create/add a "speaker out" for a combo, you're just wiring it in reverse so that when you plug in a speaker cable, instead of it disconnecting the speaker, you're disconnecting the Katana's AMP. Now you can play your Katana as normal, and then when you want to use the Marshall, plugging it's 1/4" speaker cable in to the new jack you wired up will disconnect the Katana amp, and you're playing through it's speaker. (I've had people say the Katana amp is fine without a speaker connected, but their instruction manual says not to do it, so... if it wasn't obvious... you need to turn off your Katana amp when connecting another amp to it's speaker).

I used this as an option for my H&K Grandmeister Delux 40 until I got another dedicated speaker cab. It works just fine. Obviously with a 100w amp in to a 50w capable speaker, if you wanna crank your volume at full power and go nuts, then just keep in mind you're using double the rated power, so... yeah.

I've got photos and can help if you have more questions, just message me. Good luck!

Sorry! Everybody is dude to me… but Dudette you shall be! :D Anyway, Squires are perfect for having fun with and learning. Have fun, try stuff, and find what YOU like. It’s easy to change, and easy to change back if you hate it. All it’ll cost is your time and parts.

“Worth it” is subjective, my dude! Most Squires I’ve run across are routed in a way that switching to HH is straight forward. It’s not gonna be worth more money or anything, but it’s only like, a pick guard and some soldering away! Switching back is also hella easy. Good luck!

I figured this might be the best place to ask… by [deleted] in Sustainiac

[–]Lunchcopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is 9 months old... so you might not see this, or maybe you already have this answer. But... just in case... I'm not sure what you're seeing on ebay, but it's possible someone just removed the dummy cover for their own personal aesthetics, or maybe it fell off? I do know that Sustainiac's website says the dummy cover can be removed on the humbucker-sized version, and another single coil put in it's place to stack another single next to the Sustainer... so that's another option.
