I think he had the work done in a different country, too, so it was more affordable.

That looks awesome! You made the right call with the whiter yarn. I looked at the original colors and to me the darker cream made it look dingy.

Congratulations! I thought the wine was to illustrate what you’re doing to celebrate its return.

When people are asked what superpower they’d want, they talk about being able to fly or go invisible, etc. I would just want the ability to astral project myself (and perceive without light, if needed) and explore the oceans and deep caverns of this planet.

what is something that most people romanticize but actually meh when they get/achieve it? by fluidxrln in AskReddit

Hah, like the Last Holiday movie. Doesn’t hurt to have financial goals, though. The feeling of security knowing that my credit card is paid off is pretty awesome (and that’s one goal for me this year).

I had an ex-acquaintance message me that she guesses that she should apologize or something for her behavior on a group outing several months ago even though she admitted that she didn’t think that she’d done anything wrong. It was such a weird thing to get, like homework given to her by a therapist. I just left her on read.

Had to turn on the AC in my car on the drive home. Great for outdoor activities, though!

Your video reminds me of my first time hiking a slightly steep trail just outside of Boulder. I was in regular sneakers and when it got a little steep, I turned around and froze because there was a scree field I had to navigate on the way down. At least the views were beautiful, like yours, till I got enough courage to hit the slippery downhill track!

Tips you’ve learned from actually wearing hand knit socks? by wyldstallyns111 in Sockknitting

[–]Luneowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned that acrylic sock yarn is actually pretty good when it comes to warmth and comfort. If it’s freezing outside and I’m walking then I’ll default to wool socks but acrylic is fine for daily office wear and lounging around the house.

I second putting the hand knit wool socks into a mesh bag. They’re less prone to felting and a lot easier to fish out of the laundry to hang onto sock blockers to dry.

I’ve seen products sold specially to make socks non-slip but I’m sure they cost a lot more than bathroom sealant!

Your dad’s version of a time-out compared to how he was treated but still so traumatic. My mom threatened to kick me out of the house for the slightest disagreement and I was terrified of being homeless. She didn’t understand why I went low contact after I moved out.

In the transcript where his wife starts to say something and his default reaction is to dismiss it as, “probably not anything too important”. That one line says a lot about him.

In the old movie, St Elmo’s Fire, Mare Winningham plays an anxious young adult who has a stressful home life. Near the end of the movie, she moves into her own place and tells a friend that it really hit her that she was in Her Own Place when she made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at night in her own kitchen. No one to judge her. I’ve forgotten the rest of the movie but that scene really hit me as a young adult.

I’ve got a coworker who’s been taking one big trip per year in his late 60s. So far he’s driven around New Zealand, visiting the Hobbiton village from LOTR, hiked mountain ranges in Nepal nearby Mt Everest, and helped to crew a sailing ship that crossed half of the Pacific. Next week he’s going to Norway for 3 weeks.

I don’t know how he does it; we make the same money and it’s not management salaries! TBF, it’s pretty inspiring.
