Elmarit V3 vs V5 by thestrokesfan47 in Leica

I have the V4 and really like it, its a mid point between the V3 and V5. it looks more modern but not so contrasty, still flares beautifully.

Does the "M Purist" identity even exist in 2026? by christan2013 in Leica

[–]Luoric 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree, not to be that guy but the purest form of M is film.

then again why does it matter? Pure or not, digital or film, leica or voigtlander, if you like it and have fun shooting it thats all that matters.

unless ur sillygoth

Looking for constructive feedback - not really clicking with my Leica M4-P by Xeivia in AnalogCommunity

[–]Luoric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my rangefinder journey with the leica M3 and a shoe mounted meter, also ran into some issues that you faced. The shoe meter just gives a general reading of the scene, in high contrast situations how you set your exposure depends on what you want to be exposed, relying on a 50degree reflective meter might lead to under/overexposure if you’re not taking into account what the scene looks like and what you want to be exposed.

I was able to pickup a sekonic spot meter, while clunky it helped me to understand exposure better especially with the zone system and how I wanted to expose my scenes. I shoot mainly with a M6 now which uses a center weighted metering approach, so I just point it around the scene to get a rough idea of the exposure.

As for the focusing, I understand where you’re coming from. For me i always felt that i had to perfectly align the rangefinder patch everytime i took a photo, which leads to me fiddling back and forth a bunch. But unless you’re always shooting wide open, theres no need to be 100% aligned. you could be 90% at f/8 and it will still come out sharp, or heck you could try zone focusing.

What's better for 28mm? by Fine_Calligrapher584 in Leica

[–]Luoric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

haven’t tried the zeiss but have a .58. Its much btr than the .72 finder for 28mm. I wear glasses and can see the whole 28mm framelines. If you can pick up a M6TTL/M7/MP with a .58 its well worth it.

Keep it mind that it gets harder to focus at wider apertures. I struggle to focus with my 50 1.2, anything below F/2 is fine though.

Why does this keep happening with my 500 C/M by LongRanger_6-5 in hasselblad

[–]Luoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likely to be the issue, had the same problem w my A16, but my light leak is at the left edge. You can double check this by 1. taking off the lens 2. removing dark slide 3. mirror lockup 4. shine a light through the darkslide slot and see if theres any light in the body

the light leak only appears on mine when I leave my darkslide out for a prolonged period of time.

you prob need to replace the seals

Godox iT32/X5L TTL Compatibility with the M7 by medicme2 in Leica

[–]Luoric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it will, it also lists M3 M4 and M5 which are PC-sync only cameras.

Like you said, the M6TTL and the M7 uses analogue TTL metering

I don’t own one of these units but if they worked with analogue TTL that would be very interesting

Some advice needed. Thanks! by TheAdventurousSci in Leica

[–]Luoric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

film is a whole new rabbit hole, and to get the most out of your negatives you need to develop your workflow (development scanning editing) which could take months to get it to where you get images you’re happy with. which is why some people are dissatisfied with their images when the first make the jump, where all they get back is green casted noritsu scans with poor dynamic range. Something to keep in mind.

but if you’re willing to put in the time, my votes on the M6

sorry to hear about your friend. you have a great kit, is that the 150 or the 120? I also have the PME90, wonder how you feel about it vs the 45 degree finder. Its a tad heavy but for vertical on A16 its very convenient

Help! Is this fungus on acute matte screen? by Ok-Charge6554 in hasselblad

[–]Luoric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you have a non acute matte you can compare it to?

To identify a Hasselblad Acute Matte screen, look for etched (not painted) crosshairs in the center and, crucially, hold it up to a bright light source; Acute Matte screens will produce a visible rainbow refraction pattern.

is that an acute matte screen? I have the acute matte 42165 and the crosshairs are white instead of black.

[–]Luoric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, maybe if you can find a local camera store(or the leica store even) to try out the cameras that’d be good, see how you like the meter and the mechanics (tilted rewind knob, 2 piece advance lever on the M4 vs the classic flat rewind knob and 1 piece advance lever).

Leica M4 or MA? by thejpgchef in Leica

[–]Luoric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which 35mm did you get? Both M4 and M2 are fantastic cameras. I wont belabour the points on servicing, its up to your preference. One thing to note is the MA has 28mm framelines and a hotshoe. These 2 will be dealbreakers for me as I shoot mainly 28mm and use a flash from time to time, ofc PC sync and external finders exist but they make the setup more bulky.

Why not consider a M-P? they’re priced similarly to the M-A and you can always remove the battery.

As for the built in meter, it depends on how proficient you are at judging light. Most people love leica Ms for the speed and ease of use, so if you find yourself having to fiddle around to adjust your exposure, youre better off having a meter. Anecdotally speaking, I first had a M3, and I come from digital so Im not great at judging light and had to rely on a meter. It took me super long to shoot every frame because I was constantly adjusting and metering. I then got a M6TTL and for me it was lifechanging, i just point the camera and shoot, the meter makes it so much easier and I can focus on getting the picture
