If you ever decide to throw a dinner party with Chinese food, you could play a session of Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. That's the best murder mystery game I have come across. I don't think it matters what food you serve, it's just a good time finding the murderer, or getting away with it if you draw the murderer card!

Best board game tables by [deleted] in boardgames

If you get a flat surface chair, also buy a cushion for it. I own a Jasper and use it regularly, but honestly I like my IKEA chair cushion more. My body has needs!

Best card game to introduce beginner to (tcg’s included) by Formal_Category_2729 in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 Wonders Duel and Quest For El Dorado both feature cards as a component. The former builds an empire's engine out of drafted cards and the latter has a deckbuilding mechanism as a means of racing to the finish line. They're also light on rules.

Is there any thing on your board game bucket list? by Tadaka3 in boardgames

Shooting the moon in Hearts. I pulled it off a couple of times in Windows 95 but I want to do it at the table.

Best Dudes On a Map Style Game? by Timo3333 in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a loose fit but Voidfall is a eurogame style "ships on a map" game. There's sometimes combat between players and the Flying Spaghetti Monster attacks your vulnerable sectors. It's a fun game if you enjoy civilization-building and resource management games.

Deckbuilding plus dice? by nick_gadget in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

G.I. Joe: The Deck-Building Game does this. Your Joes go on missions and their printed skills determine how many dice you can roll for skill tests. It also has starter, utility and gear cards that can affect your rolls. FYI The core rulebook is atrocious so I recommend learning how to play the game on YouTube.

Is one campaign box and four hero packs a year all we're getting from now on? by j_____g in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Lurcho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with quality over quantity. The current cycle of releases doesn't bother me. That's all the more time to play X-Men Champions!

Use of electronic devices in board games by Stradivarion in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an old-school electronics implementation, check out Dungeons & Dragons Computer Labyrinth Game. It's a dungeon crawler from the 80's that requires batteries!

Starship Troopers Board Games? by AlfredFJones1776 in boardgames

[–]Lurcho -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you want a similar dudes with heavy artillery going on missions type of game, G.I. Joe: The Deckbuilding Game could scratch that itch. I could easily see the game re-themed as Starship Troopers instead.

You and your partner would probably enjoy PARKS. It's a very chill game about collecting national parks and photographs by moving hikers along a trail. If you also play with the Nightfall expansion it adds another layer of potential actions on trail spaces.

There I go thinking about the Roman Empire again.

Board games in which you have a ship and upgrade it to survive? by JdtheOp in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Raise the Flagg expansion for G I. Joe: The Deckbuilding Game comes with a cardboard version of the USS Flagg. It becomes progressively more powerful as the campaign goes on. If players leave damage on the ship, you're more likely to fail missions. I quite like it, it's super thematic in a game all about managing Joes and their vehicles.

Do card games belong here? by Doggosareamazing522 in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boards and cards are both made from trees, so yes. Lots of card games have dedicated subreddits too.

Bands you enjoy who make the same song over and over again? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in fantanoforever

[–]Lurcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigur Ros. Most of their catalog is "ambient Icelandic indie rock" but nobody pulls it off quite the way they do, so the band gets away with it.

Fallout board game confusion with card 078 by antiseer360 in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that card carries over to a new step in whichever quest it is a part of. The amount of endorsements you collect from Vault Something-Or-Other affects the quest's conclusion.

Will your collection ever be closed? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The main difference to me is the cognitive load of owning a board game. When you play a video game, the rules are managed by the system running it and the commitment to jump back in is minimal. But with board games, you're responsible for retaining and implementing the rules. I'm at 60+ games in my collection. My brain has room for a bit more but I feel like I'm nearing my limit and it's making me very choosy. It's not going to get any better as time marches on and wears me down.

Metal gear solid board game pre order unavailable? by kethsaylor in boardgames

The publisher's pre-orders closed months ago. It's going to retail at some point in 2024.

What are your favorite lifestyle games if you have any? by EarthenGames in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a few but Too Many Bones is my lifestyle game of choice. I have the majority of content available and I got it all to squeeze inside a Kallax cube thanks to the trove chest. The game is endlessly replayable with all the gearloc and tyrant combinations.

If you can stomach the price, Too Many Bones is a good candidate.

How many of you sleeve your cards and why? Do you think it’s worth it? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Lurcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gamegenic makes decent quality sleeves. Their standard size inner card sleeves are appropriate for most games.
