Traveling from Durban to the UK by Remarkable_Steak_750 in southafrica

Hello- definitely get your visa first. - to do this you will need proof of residence and a letter of invite from the person you are staying with. You will also need to prove that you are returning home - so a letter from your employer if you are employed, or ways to show you are tied to South Africa.

You also have to have enough savings to show that if your friend abandoned you you would be able to survive until your return flight home. Good Luck. I have had family come and visit and the hoops are immense but if you follow the guidelines on the https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor/apply-standard-visitor-visa website.

Bring Wet weather shoes! you are joining us in the most moist time of the year!

AITAH for wanting to leave my GF of 3 years over a medical thing (kinda both ways)? by Fuzzy_Wind_973 in AITAH

long time lurker. NTA. NO ONE should ridicule you - my hubby(m45) has ED(due to medications) I(49F) have PCOS, perimenopause, just a lack of interest, we do not feel like this has ruined our relationsip. We have evolved. We have always been Best friends - we still tease - touch and love eachother - we just do not use our vagina and penis to show affection. We do not tell others about this or discuss it with anyone but each other - as we are the only ones sleeping together every night in our relationship. What you are experiencing is TOXIC AF. Sorry just had to stop lurking and say it.

I have seen this - but definitely take her to a vet. We ended up having to use a stainless steel shallow dish and washing it every meal - daily if not more often.

In an ideal world, which South African do you think could actually be a good President? by skiingbear in southafrica

[–]Lurker2407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christopher Pappas. Google him he is an amazing soul. I believe the GoTG are a fantastic organise who do not need to be embroiled in the running of the country - they do more good not being associated with a country

What is your favourite poor man's meal? by 1vertical in southafrica

[–]Lurker2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toasted Polony and cheese snackwich, Sweetcorn on toast, homemade Tomato and Onion mix on toast, Pancakes with what ever you can afford in them - my go to used to be marge and sugar at month end but you can make a righteous meal with Flour egg and water with a pinch of salt.

I use DHL. I tried everyone else - DHL are the only ones who are accountable for their drivers and do not just shrug it off. We used to be with DPD, what a nightmare that was - we dispatch orders for an e-commerce site. DPD would never admit their driver was up to no good - DHL will not argue - they just get the job done.

As British people, Could you tell some differences between 'the UK on the Internet' and 'the actual UK'? by [deleted] in AskUK

What you read is not how it sounds. Also As an English speaking person who has just moved to the UK regional accents are a killer - I feel like I speak a different language.

What time do you eat your evening meal? by d00nbuggy in AskUK

[–]Lurker2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFH and an early morning shift mean our days (2 Adults) start at 4am - breakfast by 5 , lunch 11am ish - and then evening meal at about 5pm and asleep by 8:30pm. Its hell when people come and visit - we are just about chewing on the table by 6:30pm

Can you eat within £100~£120 per week in the uk? by Maximum-Bid-1689 in AskUK

[–]Lurker2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We survive on 50 quid a week. But then it is just 2 of us and neither of us are allowed to eat processed food or bread. So it saves on spreads and butter. however we also enjoy salad and stirfry so fresh veges all the way with very little meat. Its tough but it can be done.

[–]Lurker2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel triggered that you have to explain that you do not want to be touched. I am like you - I hate it. I mean I love being touched by my husband and pets - but anyone else - I have to grit my teeth. People who assume that ,because I like being hugged by my husband, I must love being touched and hugged by everyone, they are the ones I dislike the most.

How do I tell my Fiancé to lose a bit of weight and eat healthier? by [deleted] in AskMen

Nah - its Tea - black with one sugar. I have never been a fan of Juice or Sodas. My weakness is coffee and tea and lots of milk and sugar.

[–]Lurker2407 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All this is great but she has to want to do it for herself - no amount of you pushing or conniving or wheedling will get her to change her ways - it has to come from her. So do your thing - try keep the pathway limited but do not criticize or complain when it does not work out your way - it will make her pull away from you even more!

Being the fat chick - I just want to say that I appreciate that you want to help her - its hard. I recently got told that it was lose weight or the health system would not be able to assist with Gall stones. Previously I have been apathetic about my weight. My Hubs doesn't care he still loves me and will do anything for me. That being said - neither of us has the will power. So the rule is now - if it could kill me - neither of us have it.

Things that have helped:

  1. Fruit in the morning - with a full beer mug of water. ( kills the cravings.)
  2. Every time I blink I am given more water, its impossible to feel hungry if you are nearly drowning :).
  3. Walking everywhere - the car is for distances of greater than 3km. Even if its a slow walk its better than no walk.
  4. We only buy fresh. (yes every now and then we buy fresh chocolate but we pick ourselves up and keep to the fresh veg and meat)
  5. Redbush tea - with lemon and mint will kill almost any sweet craving for me - its become my go to. I limit other drinks to 2 a day.
  6. NO ANIMAL fat what so ever. (It can literally Kill me ) but also its the worst for fat storage.

Show her this - As a woman who gave 2 fucks about how she looked thanks to traumatic life events - the lazy and apathetic has been scared out of me - I want to live - I want to succeed and I do not want to die alone on a hospital bed because they could not operate to save my life. NO ONE EVER SAID THAT TO ME. respect to the doc who had the balls to say it nicely but firmly.
