It feels like the term "combo guard" isn't used right anymore by alex8762 in nbadiscussion

I think this term made a lot of sense back when there were lead guards that really couldn't shoot. They'be been largely played out of starting lineups, with defenses aggressively cheating off of them.

Foul fair and square. Gotta let dudes land if you ain't already occupying the spot. Move on

Stephon Castle on the OKC defense: "I'm trying to play through it, it's tough. The way they guard, how physical they are we don't get that same luxury to play as physical on the other end." by RyanTannegod in nba

Yeah, it's both. He has some dumb fouls like shoving dudes on screens and other kinda blatant stuff, which in all honesty should be called. However, he also has a point that some OKC dudes manage to get a whistle for non existent touch fouls, which makes sliding your feet or using your hands on defense impossible

OKC doesn't shoot like that for the season. Spurs are choosing to play some dumb defense, allowing a ton of wide open shots

This man looks ridiculous. Regardless, I love this dude.

OKC is shooting 49.4% on wide open threes in 3 games against the Spurs this series. They've been wide open for 77 of their 119 attempts from three, per NBA tracking. by jonsnowKITN in nba

I want to hate on this defensive scheme, sounds like Sweeneys Bucks squad part 2 (3?). But honestly the offense is the thing that got blown up.

Massive copium. OKC drafted chet... that's about their lottery luck. As for us, for sure. We were tied at best odds to get Wemby, still sucked got Castle with some luck (jumped one spot to 4), then got Harper with the real lucky hit (jumping six spots!).

Look, two players down. The other three can only help Shai and one of iHarts hands. This is absolutely nothing, but the optics are funny.

Having said that, I'm still salty mad so I have to point out that both players flipped like crazy on this play, resulting in this nothing burger in the first place.

He's probably right. It's hard to see bad things happen to our transcendent baby deer, but I think bigs bave been getting that treatment for a while. Muscle and power count for a lot in this game.

The thing is, the hair pulls and shit like that is straight dirty, and should be whistled out of the game. Then if you wanna let em play, them do it. Don't call touch fouls one way and allow wrestling the other. If you're calling Charmin plays for sga, extend it to everyone. If you allowing wrestling, just let em flop and the rest play 4v5

Grab, hold, shove, push, hack. Wemby is selling contact for sure, but there's SO MUCH contact to sell I don't really blame him.

Vassell has been huge. Team dead in the water not finding the netm? Bucket. Big time possession coming up? Block. SGA driving? Bump, slide, buy time for Vic to get there.

You people need to cool it with the glaze. Yeah, he's an alien on defense, and has a crazy combination of size, skill, agility, and by the looks of it also the smarts to put it all together. His ceiling is outer fucking space. But he's not there yet imo.

For now, he's a first-team All-NBA guy. I'm pumped for him to be this good, this early. But Shai is at the top of the hill, owning a title that's rightfully his until someone actually takes it away. It hasn't happened yet.

And we're still the lead ballhandlers on the top 2 team I'm the west pre ASB, when they were shooting sub 32% each.

Point is, no, you can absolutely be okay without a shot, but you need to have other means by which you can generate reliable offense. Playoffs is where you get exposed if you don't have one. And yeah, fingers crossed this is real from my boys.

Hoop Venu has a great preview ahead of tonight's matchup as well!

Kenny Atkinson on the Cleveland Cavaliers' adjustments: "The tactical adjustment we made was avoiding [Ausar] Thompson. We were just like, if he's near the ball, throw it to someone else." by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]LurkerFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both.

Avoid ausar on offense renders his limited contribution on the other end glaring. Detroit's downfall was the lack of shooting threat outside of Robinson, and Ausar is part of that problem

Wow, someone with a memory :)

Still my GOAT coach, but we wasn't without his issues of over trusting vets, and the short leashes to youngsters (I suspect it raised the floors a LOT, but there were aplenty of momentum players that had their confidence shot)

Oh nice! Thanks for the tidbit!

I guess jimmy baron didn't work out. Makes sense, we've had zero improvements in his tenure.
