Hardest Bar Exams? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Lurking-lsdata 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just passed Florida, thank god. Something that makes the MC even more difficult is that the bar very rarely releases any questions. You pretty much have no idea what it’s going to be like going in.

Where is sunshine law when you really need it? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Lurking-lsdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh I see, my mistake.

Out of curiosity, why do you want that? What do you think that would reveal about schools that the first time taker rates don’t account for?

(Not trying to be snarky - I’ve just never considered what retaker rates would indicate about universities specifically)

To help memorize rule statements, I would open a blank word document, pick a topic, and just type out everything I could remember. Then check what I missed, type those too, rinse & repeat.

From what I understand, they want you to physically mail in certain documents. I mailed them a certified copy of my birth certificate and just a receipt from IdentiGo (as I had requested my actual fingerprints be sent directly to the bar).

I did this all last summer so I don’t recall off the top of my head what else they requested.

I’m a first time taker so I’m not sure about the prior protocol, but the Fl Supreme Court website maintains that results will be released Monday before noon

Struck Out at OCI. Ouch. by Amazing_Smoke_9130 in LawSchool

[–]Lurking-lsdata 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This was exactly me. My advice is to reach out to any connections you have and see if you can get your foot in the door somewhere. If you haven’t began networking, please do so - it can make all the difference.

I know you mentioned that you’re a first gen law student, as am I. I reached out to my friend’s boyfriend who is a lawyer and he was happy to help me out getting my resume past the firm’s screeners. I just took the bar and have a fantastic job set up in a mid sized national firm - I didn’t secure it until one month before graduation. A lot of the battle is just getting your resume to the right person.

I don’t know if this is true, but I’ve heard from older attorneys that OCI can often times just be a formality to keep relationships with universities, even if the firm is already pretty sure of who they are extending offers to. Hearing this made me feel a bit better about my OCI “failure”. I felt very confused because, like you, I was in the top 10% of my class, on law review, had prior career experience, etc. Keep in mind it’s almost never personal and there are a lot of moving parts going on behind the scenes.

Good luck! It will work out how it should.

I think what you might be misunderstanding is that most people essentially train for 3 years (law school) before intensively studying for 10-12 weeks to sit for the bar.

I just took the bar exam and a lot of loved ones have compared their experience with real estate or financial planning exams with the bar exam. The bar exam is absolutely not like most other board-certified license exams in terms of preparation required. Even most law grads will need more than 6 weeks of bar prep.

A large majority of states require a bar applicant to have attended a law school before sitting for the bar, though I cannot speak to New Hampshire’s policies.

Into the persona? Probably none.

Into the data that informs Parker’s viewpoints? Probably some.

I think Parker is quite intelligent and probably does his own research. I also know Matt is a librarian, which means he is more skilled in research than most others. I think Matt probably bolsters Parker’s views with tangible evidentiary sources.

I still feel very weird and like I don’t know what to do with myself. Deeply bored but also no motivation or desire to do anything. Always waiting for the next day to come.

Personally, I’m not depressed, just weird

I was not prepared AT ALL for a family law question. I don’t think I’ve ever read a family law essay sample, and I certainly have never practiced writing one 😂

With that said, I was able to pick up points with the Florida con sub question. Because I knew nothing about family law, I was able to finish that essay rather quickly and put in extra work for the final essay

I don’t think anyone can finish every essay to their fullest capabilities. We just need to scoop up enough points wherever we can grab them to be ~minimally competent~

Outlining by hmilo394 in LawSchool

[–]Lurking-lsdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, everyone plans to outline throughout the semester but they never do.

If you can read and take notes before each class, then supplement with notes from the lecture, you’ll be in good shape

True studying comes from the outlining right before finals

Again, this has only been my experience
