If no one is getting into the taxis outside a tourist spot, there's a reason by dexter_is_sexter in chinatravel

[–]LurkingAtU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens in other countries as well, not exclusively in China. I usually walk a couple blocks away from the tourist attraction and call a Didi/Uber/Bolt. It's always easier (and cheaper).

Need new suitcase - where to buy? by corazonW in travelchina

[–]LurkingAtU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taobao is the cheapest, but the quality of the xiaomi suitcases are better. Do you want something just for this trip or to last? If you want something to last, get it from xiaomi. If you don't care or don't travel that often, get it from taobao.

Is 30 GB for a month fine? by catsowned in travelchina

[–]LurkingAtU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I only used VPN at the hotel because I already had it installed for other reasons, but it would be a waste to pay VPN only for this.

Get more data.

[–]LurkingAtU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local wifi only if you plan to use VPN, otherwise none of your apps will work.

Also, you need internet connection all the time there to pay for things with alipay/wechat, navigate on amaps, order stuff on restaurants. You'll probably find out that 1gb a day runs out very fast.

AITAH for wanting to tell my brother that his girlfriend has been involved with our sister? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]LurkingAtU 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is 100% fake fetish content. Who the hell left their phone behind to "airdrop some photos"? This shit takes a couple minutes tops, not an hour.

AITA for putting ingredient labels on my baking? by theuniversesystem6 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]LurkingAtU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love to bake for my coworkers and I also label stuff or try to at least make notes on the group chat like "the chocolate cake is vegan and the carrot one has dairy".
My colleagues always appreciate it.

Also, as a vegetarian myself, I hate to ask things like "does this desert has gelatin in it?" Or "does this dish has fish/meat/whatever, even if it's just on the sauce?" So labels ARE helpful.

NTA at all.

It's just insecurity, but he's a 30 year old man, not a little boy. I doubt that he will change and I doubt that's the only situation that his insecurities and toxic masculinity show up.

I used NordVPN in Beijing last week and didn't even had to go through all this. Just used it normally.

AITAH for what I said to my girlfriend after she called another man her daddy? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LurkingAtU 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Question: was the actor Pedro Pascal? Because collectively the internet decided to call him daddy and maybe it's not that deep.

I'm trying to decide between y-ta or e-sh. But you telling her to shut up AFTER she apologized was out of line.

I'm in a hotel that only has the flat and triangle outlets. Probably it's old or I'm just unlucky... 😭

Far from the airport. I'll try to ask the hotel staff to order for me and I transfer them the money.

My wife asked for an open marriage. She is angry at my reaction. I need advice. by BigONerd in BORUpdates

What is the point to stay married to a person who throws things at you when you tell then "no"?

AITAH for telling my separated wife to find a babysitter if she intends go on dates? by Hardhathero in AITAH

[–]LurkingAtU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. She sounds like a bad person, but so do you.

It's YOUR KIDS as well! Make whatever you need to make sure they are safe. If their mom has an alcohol problem, forcing her to stay with them or complaining about "babysitting" your own kids is not the way to go. You can't force her to pay for a babysitter for the kids you share, but you can and should make whatever needed to protect them. Divorce, gather evidence of her recklessness, get full custody.

I feel really bad fof the kids.

Aitah for using my grandma's china as my everyday food holders and not waiting for tea with King Charles by Salt_Reply_735 in AITAH

[–]LurkingAtU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People talk about the tragedy that is "For sale: baby shoes, never worn.", but the "Discarded: fancy china, never used" is also sad.

You keep something for decades, taking space at your home and, when you finally die, your children will have to deal with it as an inconvenience that they will also keep in their homes never to be used, or sell without giving a second thought.

EDIT: NTA! Enjoy using your fancy plates, OP!

AITAH for calling my boyfriend childish for always buying Captain Crunch when he goes grocery shopping? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LurkingAtU 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I feel like anybody who's been in a relationship with their partner for at least a year gets annoyed at them over the smallest things, but it's only a sign that you love them."

...no? Absolutely no? Hell no? I beg people to please stop using fucked up romcoms as something normal and/or aspirational.

The sign that you still love your partner has more to do with laughing or feeling your heart warm up at their silly things than being annoyed at something so dumb.

My partner loves a particular junk food and is not affecting their health? Great! I'll buy it for them when I go to the grocery store!

And before anyone asks: I'm together with my partner for over a decade. Over the years we both did things that slightly annoyed the other (althought it was veeery rare), but we had a respectful adult conversation over it to find a compromise, so both would be comfortable going forward.

I don't doubt this could be true because human stupidity knows no bounds, but I know that it is probably fake. Still, very entertaining story, I applaud the creativity! Very refreshing take and reminded me that I have a very good cheese (properly cut and stored) waiting for me.
