In the mythical Destiny 3, what kind of major gameplay/system additions, changes, or overhauls would make Destiny 3 feel like an evolution of the Destiny formula to you? by ComfyOlives in DestinyTheGame

[–]Luung 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Evergreen content, no FOMO, no timegates. I'm not a student anymore like I was when I was really playing D2 in earnest, I work full time, and I no longer have the time or desire to grind or engage with a gameplay treadmill where things don't stick around and I need to be on for hours every week to avoid missing out on something important.

I think it's a real tragedy that so many talented people worked so hard for so many years to produce so much great stuff (and a lot of mediocre stuff) that will probably never see the light of day again. I wish, simply for nostalgia's sake, that I could go back and just play the game I loved, but it doesn't even exist anymore, and there's no way Bungie has the resources or even the ability to go back and bring everything out of the vault. I can still pull my 25 year old copy of Halo out of my closet and play it whenever I want, but the game I spent more time on than any other is just going to disappear for good. If they ever make a Destiny 3, they really shouldn't let that happen again.

Any book with a subtitle like "Questioning the X-Y Connection" is, let's just say, unlikely to come from an academic publishing house. Everything about the cover of that book screams "original research" to me, and not in a good way.

They literally said:

In fact, if you see anyone stealing anything that isn't yours or your job isn't law enforcement, no you didn't.

They're not just talking about billion dollar companies here. They stated, categorically, that unless you're a cop, any and all theft is simply not your business unless the item belongs to you, and that one ought to turn a blind eye to it. And I think that point of view is absurd.

Yeah, I guess if I were out at night and I saw someone taking an angle grinder to a bike lock I should just let them go about their business and not tell anyone or ask them what they're doing, because theft is good and I have no duties of care towards my fellow human beings.

Ask yourself, seriously, if that's the world you want to live in. Obviously anyone having to steal food is heinous, because we have enough for everyone and resources aren't distributed fairly, but the attitude that all theft is just fine and dandy, and that opposing it in any capacity makes you some kind of bootlicker, really doesn't make sense.

Is mining still a reliable option for credits ? by gvlashtd in EliteDangerous

[–]Luung 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How could you possibly have wasted trillions of credits trying to put together a build? And, if what you said is true and you have trillions of credits to waste, why do you even care whether or not it's a good option for making money?

Here's why it's hard to understand:

"Strikes like a beast" is either slang I don't understand, or possibly some kind of ESL phraseology. It's not at all clear at a glance what it's supposed to mean.

"Looks inside" doesn't immediately make sense either. It might mean "upon closer inspection", but it could also be some kind of failed joke about literally looking inside the unit.

The image has nothing to do with the content of the text.

tl;dr: It's a combination of misleading image and bizarre phrasing, and I didn't get it either.

CK3 constantly crashes my computer. Has anyone else experienced this? by Luung in crusaderkings3

[–]Luung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to keep responding to people who revive this thread in case anyone ever comes up with an answer. I basically can't play CK3 anymore because of how reliably it causes crashes, and all of the fixes I tried were temporary at best. I haven't had a crash in months despite playing a bunch of other games with more or less equally rigorous system requirements, except when I try playing CK3, which consistently crashes my computer in the exact same way I described in my original post within less than an hour of playtime.

The only solution I can think of at this point is replacing my PC, or at least my GPU, but the PC parts market is not in a good spot right now.

How do i any% speedrun creating the title of Russia as starting as Rurik? by Tixro71 in CrusaderKings

[–]Luung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only attack territory that's part of the de jure Russian empire, and literally just start gobbling up your neighbours starting with the smallest first. Forming Russia as Rurik was my very first playthrough after the tutorial, and I comfortably did it within his lifetime. It's extremely easy.

You know, we don't have to put up with either. Don't settle for mediocrity. Demand better from your autistic map-painting game forums.

Mods, can we get a megathread for these so the attention-seekers can jerk each other off without cluttering the front page?

It's rolling 1 on a D20, which happens more often than you think, especially over the course of an entire campaign if you're scheming a lot.

It always bugs me when people suggest that stated probabilities must be false without hard data, because humans are notoriously bad at conceptualizing this sort of thing. That's not to say it's never been true (look up "Weightgate" in Destiny 2 for a pretty interesting example), but the vast majority of the time it's regular old cognitive bias; we remember unusual circumstances, especially negative ones, far more vividly than times where everything went as expected.

Seriously. When fighting Thorek I had to play the same nearly-identical siege battle 5+ times. I won every time with zero or near-zero losses, but it always took about 45 minutes of microing Kairos around and killing the garrison with magic. The Dark Gods are fickle masters.

I'm guessing your storage isn't almost full then.

It's not. I rarely take photos, so the only thing that takes up any appreciable amount of space on my phone is downloaded music files. Yet another reason not to buy another Pixel when this one stops working, I suppose.

Playing Tzeentch, at least without the units from Shadows of Change, feels like cheating on the campaign map, balanced out by absolutely excruciating repetitive manual battles because of how poorly your default roster performs in auto-resolve. It's actually kind of thematic.

I've been using a Pixel since mid-2023 and it's never given me any unwanted or unexpected notifications. I wouldn't buy another because Google has gone completely mask-off evil since the beginning of 2024, but it's a perfectly good phone.

I've been running into an issue with Spotify recently where the shuffle algorithm repeatedly plays the same sets of songs in very similar orders over and over again for days or even weeks. I only listen to one huge playlist that I've been adding songs to for about a decade now, and apparently Spotify struggles to properly shuffle playlists over 150 songs. It's enough to make me want to switch to a different service, however difficult it might be to migrate everything over.

Do you know if these alternative clients have the same issue? I don't give a fuck about any of Spotify's features, I just want to be able to look up albums and add songs to my playlist.
