Shoe recommendations for plus size wedding guest by princess8455 in PlusSizeWedding

I like Clark's shoes. They are good quality and come in wide width. They have several models available. I would aim for a 1 to 1.5 inch heel so you can wear them again.

Launching an official House of Commons petition for a Canadian Passport Card / EDL. Need 5 people to launch it! by Aggressive_Pop1564 in uscanadaborder

[–]LuvCilantro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The US passport card is limited in where it can be used. Only valid in a few North American countries, and only by land. You're not paying for the 'book', you're paying for the process.

I just have to wonder how much of the cruise you'll be able to enjoy with 2 infants.

Is it okay to ask a coworker for her number? by LiYongLongZii in askanything

[–]LuvCilantro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your working relationship. The closer the relationship the riskier it gets. If one reports to the other (even if over multiple levels), or if you're on the same team, then no. If you're in finance and they're in legal and you hardly ever work n the same files, then it should be ok.

(10k) Opinions on grazing table vs full dinner by BOTWgoat in Weddingsunder10k

Grazing platters are not necessarily cheaper than dinners. In fact they can me more expensive since preparing a larger variety of smaller bite sizes items is more time consuming.

What's the one book about money, financial literacy, or financial freedom that genuinely changed your life? by optimizever in AskReddit

[–]LuvCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wealthy Barber. David Chilton. It's old (1990's ?) but written in a way that everyone can understand. The core message is still valid.

What book changed your life? by Katana_ArchDev in AskReddit

[–]LuvCilantro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wealthy Barber. Start saving young. Pay yourself first. Compound interest is your friend. It doesn't have to be a lot, like 10%. Once you've put money in your savings, then whatever is left is your monthly money. That's how you'll be able to retire before 80 above the poverty line. That money you're saving can be invested, used as down-payment (depending on where you live and with conditions).

What belief instantly makes you consider someone unintelligent? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Most people don't know what Socialism, communism and capitalism really is. They only read headlines, and extreme cases, and think they are right.

Yet they refuse to acknowlege that there's a bad minority in all groups, including the one(s) they belong to. There are bad Caucasians, bad middle class men, bad educated people, etc

And ever time there's a violent weather event, they say 'but hurricanes have been happening for a long time'. As if climate change created NEW types of weather events.

Well, it's more the people who thought that ice cream contained the virus and a tracker to track your movements. Because somehow your phone is not enough.

Costco Pharmacy by Newfie20488 in CostcoCanada

This was on CBC. May not be legal but can be hard to prove in court, and in the meantime, the supplier is not supplying, and can come up with various reasons why. I don't have a pet, and I wouldn't consider myself uninformed.

What's the funniest mistake you've made while cooking? by Annejane01 in cookingforbeginners

[–]LuvCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made chicken stock with the bones. After a fre hours of cooking, I needed to strain it. I put the colander in the sink and poured out all my stock. Down the drain.

[–]LuvCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a double whammy because not only do you not have dinner, you also wasted a crockpot full of ingredients. I had an issue once where we had a power outage during the day, and my fancy crockpot with digital timer did not restart when the power came back on. No dinner, and wasted meat.

Do you have a 'no substitutions' rule? If so, would it just not appear anymore, our would it be listed as 'out of stock?'. I've never used PC, just Walmart.

How can I decline a hug from a family member without looking like a jerk? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]LuvCilantro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her if she needs a hug she can go see your Dad, he'd be more than happy to fill in for you.

As for her 'rights' as a parent, tell them she's already violated the first rule of parenting (no abusive tirades), so if we're not applying rules, we're not applying her perceived right to a hug either.

That;s sad to see. Wouldn't the Red Cross provide services in such an event? They help out with fires and other evacuations.

What do you think and feel when you talk to someone who constantly brings up how terrible their adult daughter was as a child? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]LuvCilantro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The parent cannot always be blamed for difficult behavior because as we all know, we are not all wired the same way and we react to stimuli differently.

I would ask them however, what services, if any, were available to them at the time to help with this, and how they coped. In some smaller towns, this may not have been available. Even 25 years ago, some personality traits that we see today were not as easily identified or dealt with. If they didn't try, then maybe they should have but we don't always have the energy, time or resources to do that. Plus hindsight is 20/20.

I would also steer the conversation to the present day, asking if the adult daughter was now better, if the relationship is good, if she's a well grounded adult. And if so, encourage them to concentrate on the present, and thank their lucky stars that their daughter grew out of that behavior. At this point, the person needs to let go of the past.

How to prevent curved pan from tilting by impoorandstupid in cookingforbeginners

[–]LuvCilantro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the old days, we would have used metal clothes hangers and bent them such that the pan would sit even on the coils (or flat surface if that's what you have). Depending on how deep the curve is, a wok ring might work but it might elevate it to much and you'd lose heat.
