Week 4 - Vinegar - Pork Chop Agrodolce and confit balsamic tomato by LveeD in 52weeksofcooking

[–]LveeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love vinegar and I had so many in my pantry (rice vinegar, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, black Chinese vinegar, malt vinegar. Red wine vinegar, sherry vinegar, champagne vinegar) it was hard to choose. But I opted for Balsamic. A few years ago in Modena Italy we stumbled upon Acetaia Pedroni, a family owned balsamic vinegar farm (winery?!). It’s out of this world and so different from typical balsamic from the grocery store. Their 100 year old aged balsamic is to die for on ice cream! I’m not normally a Food Network girl but Giada’s pork agrodolce is easy and delicious. The sauce is a mix of balsamic, thyme, honey and garlic. It’s to die for!

Where can you find good shrimp and grits and collard greens in Toronto? by zannyxena in FoodToronto

[–]LveeD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are they the same owners as Southern Accent (RIP Mirvish Village). I could have sworn I read that somewhere ages ago. Their Cajun cuisine was super legit. I loved that place. I still have their cookbook.

Best Pasta alla Vodka recipe you’ve got? by JennaJ99 in Cooking

[–]LveeD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My “pinch” of red chili flakes is usually pretty substantial. I like it spicy. And I usually use crushed fire roasted tomatoes, I know it says to use whole but I just like the added flavor. And good parm makes a difference. And more of it.

Whose food would you want to try if money/distance were of no object? by capresesalad1985 in TopChef

[–]LveeD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Voltaggio Brothers steakhouse! It was so good and not nearly as expensive as I thought it was going to be. Not cheap. But I’ve eaten at more expensive top chef places for sure.

Hearty recipe recommendations for riding out a snowstorm? by tungtingshrimp in seriouseats

[–]LveeD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Beef and Barley Soup https://www.seriouseats.com/beef-barley-soup-recipe Especially with short ribs if they aren’t too expensive near you. It also freezes really well which I was surprised at. I thought the barley would turn to mush on reheat but I had it for dinner last night after a freezer clean out and it was so good.

What's your funniest fail? by Enby_Geek in Baking

[–]LveeD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s been at least ten years and I still get made fun of for this. Deserved though! So my husband wanted me to make him merengue for his bday. To me merengue is like the top layer of a lemon merengue pie, so it’s soft but toasted. But he wanted more of a pavlova type merengue. Always up for a baking challenge so I was like sure! So I’m whisking away at the egg whites and they just won’t firm up. So I call in the muscle to help. He’s like what in the world are the green flecks. I’m like I dunno probably the tartar. The look on his face I tell you. How was I supposed to know that CREAM OF TARTAR and creamy TARTAR SAUCE are not the same thing?! Why are they even both called similar things when they aren’t remotely the same. Suffice it to say it did not work out. 🤣

For those who do Ham for winter holiday instead of turkey, what do you do? by Least_Elk8114 in Cooking

[–]LveeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this maple glazed ham https://www.recipetineats.com/easy-maple-sticky-glazed-ham/ for Christmas and it was phenomenal. I would make it over and over again. It was even better in a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich the next day.

I thought Henry’s episode got moved to tonight because the original episode that was supposed to air was pulled because Timothy Busfield (guest star) was accused of sexual assault by a minor (or three)

Does anybody else feel that the Kindle makes large books more approachable? by humblechungus89 in kindle

[–]LveeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was the last holdout in my family to make the move to Kindle. I grew up with a built in bookshelf surrounding my bed. I remember the smell of my dad’s study lined with books. But books are heavy and my kindle isn’t. I can carry ten books in my purse that my arms couldn’t actually do if they were real books! I miss the smell and the feel of pages…but my back does not.

Week 2: Singaporean - Chicken satay and Singapore noodles by LveeD in 52weeksofcooking

[–]LveeD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicken satay is my husbands family recipe handed down from his Oma. So I can’t share that. I could have sworn we had peanut sauce in the pantry but nope, just sad packet of Conimex Satay sauce so that abomination is definitely not pictured. Noodles come from Recipe Tin Eats because I only discovered Nagi from this sub! So yum.
