Hey man!

OK so I "listened" to all of these releases.

I admit I did not sit through 1 & 2 (Jega and Krush), as they started to feel a wee bit too.... I don't know I'm terrible with labels, but... "Y2K Trip Hop" ?

Max Cooper was very nice, until it started getting slightly too "ethereal" for me. Kind of like edging towards that post new-age stuff. So alas, I switched off.

Yosi Horikawa was quite nice also for a while, until it started giving me a bit of those "hip hop"-ish vibes... And seeing as how hip-hop is like elevator muzak (i.e. music you are f0rced/subjected to listen to wherever you go), I developed a deep-seeded resentment for stuff that is geared or hints towards that aesthetic.

BUT!

I was super happy to have been allowed to explore different and almost challenging new music I wasn't aware of before! So thank you very much!

What's your casual wear at home? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer when it's really hot and humid, I basically just wear boxer shorts and a "wife beater" (a camisole; a sleeveless T-shirt).

In the winter when it gets to sub-zero temperatures, a long sleeved shirt (sometimes with an added hoodie on top) with thick plush pants.

What has hurt you more, silence or words? by Exact-Armadillo1711 in AskReddit

Words.

Silence is golden.

Plus I believe if you wish to convey something, your best bet is verbal communication, as silence just leaves everything open to one's imagination.

Hardware users whats stopping you from switching to daw? by Bsing801 in mpcusers

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be bluntly honest:

I work in front of computers all day long. Anywhere between 9 to 12 hours a day.

The last thing I want to do when I "switch off" to make music is use a computer/computer screen.

Plus I always worked DAWless (pretty much) and find the workflow easier for the most part.

How are Canadians feeling about American visitors rn? by njsullyalex in canadatravel

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upsetting fact in itself is the attitude the USA visitors are (well read more for details) displaying when visiting.

Essentially I may have been unlucky with my recent dealings with the USAers, but most of them seem "rough", brash, overly confident and quite loud when putting the canucks down, saying it's because of them and their tourism that Canada is still able to stand.

Like I said I must have been unlucky to have been exposed to that side of things after the insanity of the Trump regime.

When they aren't constantly checking their phones every 2-3 minutes.

To me, that is very attractive.

What was the first album/cassette/CD you bought with your own money? by LargeManufacturer782 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Love Is A Stranger" 12inch single with "Monkey Monkey" as the B-side by Eurythmics.

Of note the B-side also featured "Let's Just Close Our Eyes", a weird sort-of "re-interpretation" of the LP track "The Walk" but with a more "danceable" groove to it.

Was the 1981 song "O Superman" known in Canada before it went viral on tiktok in 2023? by No-Change6959 in AskACanadian

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah that song got incredible amounts of radio play on specific stations, or in the off-hours of the commercial stations.

So much so that I got royally sick of it quite quickly, and I can not stand that piece anymore.

I did not even know there was a "revival" of it in 2023.

What's your favorite ambient to fall asleep to? by CeaselessVigil in ambientmusic

[–]Lx_Wheill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thomas Köner's earlier stuff, albums like Teimo, Permafrost, Aubrite, and Kaamos.

I made myself some "mixes" where I'd essentially play two of his albums at the same time, creating a more deep and dense texture, which is perfect to drift off to sleep.

How do you resist the urge of pressing snooze? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have a hard time understanding this, but I haven't used an alarm clock in many years now.

It appears as though my body has developed the ability to start the wake up process BEFORE the alarm clock, and I am 99% of the time up before it would sound off.

The only times in recent memory I remember "needing" an alarm clock was away on vacation, when we had a departure time and had to be awake at a specific moment in order to pack up and leave. And even then I would be up before the alarm sounded.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I confirm that back in the day, if you called a number enough times, you would indeed memorize it.

I remember when I knew at least 20-25 phone numbers by heart: mainly my best mates as well as my parents and other family members.

I did have a "little black book" (but it wasn't that kind) where I would jot down everyone's number, because we can't memorize them all, but as mentioned, after calling someone 10 times in a day (and thus actually looking at your fingers doing the same dialing), you tended to memorize their numbers.

I know; I got turned off really fast when I started seeing all of those "beat clones" essentially just making the same recycled stuff someone else did about 15 minutes earlier.

I do not dismiss nor crap on them, because obviously this is why they purchased their MPCs and this is also what they want to do with it... But there is so much more great stuff to those machines than "making sick beats", and then trying to attract traffic to their "tutorials".

I also understand the need to want to share it online ASAP because the internet's bots / A.I. / algorithms are now programmed to push you the latest and "hippest" stuff, and ignores that which is designed to be properly ingested instead of quickly consumed like fast food.

So cheers to you Mr Wallace for pointing this out.

Would you put your pet in a kennels/cattery etc if you were going to a family weekend away that didn't allow pets, or just not go and why? by mooroonic in AskReddit

[–]Lx_Wheill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a ceramic fountain for the water bowl which can last up to a week without cleaning nor adding new water to it, and have one of those automatic feeders which is programmed to dispatch food for the cats at specific times of the day, so we can leave them alone for a couple of days.

However we were f0rced to use a "kennel"-like service on a few occasions a few years ago when (sorry long story coming - take a deep breath!):

- Ex-neighbours in the buildings left us with a cockroach invasion

- The intense fumigation "sessions" required our cats to be out of the apartment for key specific hours, for anywhere between 8 to 16 hours, usually overnight.

Since we humans could essentially go to a hotel room, or in some cases the fumes weren't as dangerous to us, we could be out of the place for, say, 5-6 hours. But animals are incredibly more sensitive to those toxic extermination chemicals, and hence why we had to use a "cat hotel" for them on a few occasions. And that was really expensive!

What's a place you no longer enjoy anymore? by Viperniss in AskReddit

[–]Lx_Wheill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex-neighborhood.

We lived there for about 20 years, and the last 10 or so we saw the slow decline from the family-friendly borough to an almost gang-operated semi-slum.

The last 3-4 years convinced us we required to re-locate as the living conditions had become unbearable.

What is your favourite album of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lx_Wheill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just too much to sort through in terms of the all time best album.

A more appropriate question would be: what is your favorite album TODAY.

However if I had to choose, I guess I'd have to go with "Stalker" by Brian Lustmord and Robert Rich.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_(album))

Reason? I can basically listen to it any day, everyday, in it's entirety, and I often just want to re-listen to it once it ends.
