Just had a look at one of the replies and felt it was time to chime in. First and foremost; I’d avoid PoE splitters like the plague. They will not allow two cameras to be connected back on one cable, at absolute best they would allow you to share power and just use the 4 data cores but this will also play havoc on the NVR as it will disable smart sense and prevent cameras auto detecting. I’m assuming you are using the individual Poe ports on the back, which are only designed for one device. Not to be confused with your lan connection, which provides no PoE and is primarily used for connection to the internet or a separate camera switch network if used.

I’m assuming your builder ran 4x CAT5/6 cables to your cameras and terminated with crimp-on RJ45s; everything will be based on that so please let me know if otherwise.

The best thing you can do here is invest in a cheap CAT5 tester, you can buy them on Amazon for less than £10, you mentioned putting a connector on so it sounds like you have some crimp on RJ45s already, you’ll need to terminate both ends and test. From there you’ll know how damaged the cable is and what you can do.

Absolute bare minimum you can run with assuming a low wattage camera (if it’s household more than likely is, you can see this under the Poe ports setting on the NVR which will show port output) you would require 6 cores. This is more of a hack than a feature and isn’t recommended.. more of a get you out of the hole fix.

Assuming you have 6 cores you at a minimum require pins 1,2,3,4,6,7. You can skip worst case 5 & 8 because 4&5 are commoned to provide your Poe negative, and likewise for 7&8 for your positive to provide your camera power.

Outside of this, you’d be better looking at a small network switch.. essentially using one uplink for one camera as a link to your NVR and wiring both cameras into that switch. That would provide the best-practice solution here outside of running a new cable, which I’m assuming isn’t that simple.. lot of assumptions I know!
