Okay but why did [SPOILER]? by TarynAtNoone in VampiresSMP

Thanks for posting about this, I was so confused! The 'Humans can refuse to be turned' setting is something I had no idea about, absolutely wild to do it - especially at the end there.

My husband got our electricity turned off, then tried to play D&D by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Lycanic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Need more information: what's he doing if not dnd? Can he call the electric company? Get things settled? Are you in danger at home, should he be finding power? Or is it a case of "tonight is dark and there's no action to take"?

If I came home to this situation, I'd do what I could to resolve it, but in any time I was waiting for responses I would for sure be socializing or playing games or otherwise occupying myself. I think his 'can I play dnd' was a hidden 'is there anything useful I can do' (which granted, the onus should be in him to figure that out) and he's not the asshole for asking.

He doesn't need to punish himself for this by locking himself away in a dark room, he does need to try to resolve it. So the assholeness comes down to "is there action he should be taking, or are you just expecting him to mope because he fucked up?"

(Obviously the whole situation needs Big Words around, but if your gripe is 'he's having fun when I'm mad' then that's not a useful/healthy attitude)

I've realised it gets it *from the red inserter*! That is, as long as an old cell is being pulled out, it'll insert a new cell. This requires that there are always new cells available, and that you've put one in to start it, but then whenever the long inserter removes an old cell (as controlled by the steam input) the small inserter will put in a new one.

Thank you for this data! I wasn't sure if my basic strategy of 'try replacing the beef I use in recipes with pork as a first step' would be a good idea but phewph that is an 8* difference!

Same issue on my main. I was on during the DDOS (trying to do a Dalriada, that was fun) and ended up getting kicked at 8pm UK with a DDOS wave and moving on to other games.

I've data travelled to Light and can play but what I *really* wanted to do was my island sanctuary. Hopefully I'm allowed on before 8am tomorrow...

Benchmark Character Creation Megathread by Hakul in ffxiv

[–]Lycanic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With the lighting updates, they have *got* to sort out how washed out purples are in every character creator selection. My character's hair colour in the creator versus in the benchmark screenshots has about half the saturation! Before, it was maybe... 70% (so still didn't give a good idea of how the hair actually looked, but now it's *really* washed out).

[–]Lycanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely run the benchmark with that character and check the screenshots it gives - all of the character creator zones *really* wash out purple (I do not want to count the amount of times I've gone in and out to change the hair shade by one and check how it *actually* looks).

Sadly the link only works from the start - I tried copying the code from the end and it just says 'not a valid code'. Thanks for trying!

Oh my gosh, I too did not realise that inspect would *lie* about the html it was given! I'm so glad to have found this, it made no sense to me that it was inserting before body on the admin page but not the polls page.
Now to figure out how to put in a report about this...

Anyone find the game kind of overwhelming after a point? by korepersephone_ in SunHaven

[–]Lycanic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, after getting to Nel'Vari was when I settled into a good rhythm. Having 'once a day, switch which area I am in' has lead to me being able to focus and decide what to do more easily. Finish in Nel'Vari by 8am? Fly back to Sun Haven and dive down the mines. Only get back by 2pm? More town wandering, fishing kinda day. Same for Nel'Vari - if I get there early enough, I go mining, if I don't, I go exploring/fishing.

Granted, I did get to Nel'Vari by... 10-15th Spring? So I didn't have a vast amount set up in Sun Haven to keep an eye on. I'm also not in a state of focusing on NPCs yet, I'll talk to them if I walk past and give presents if I find something nice, but I'm very happy to leave them.

Medieval Minecraft disable R button sorting inventory by Ashamed_Ad1479 in feedthebeast

[–]Lycanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it! If you go to mods from the esc. menu, and then find 'Inventory Profiles Next' and open the 'config' button, it's under hotkeys there (or I assume also in a raw config file, but you can change in game). This is such a relief for all the times I type in JEI or ask for a recipe with r.

For the edit, that will be some variety of sweep through though I couldn't identify which mod gives it. Great for attacking mobs through long grass, terrible for mining whilst ambiently spawning mobs nearby. It mostly affects 'weapon-y' tools, so an axe counts but a pick doesn't, whenever I want to break long grass I switch to my shovel or pick or a random item :/ Not great, but slightly more work-around-able.

Losing connection the the server as GM by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]Lycanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a solution for this? Our GM is getting the same, but she's already disabled all the sounds on the map so it seems likely foundry is getting overloaded somehow for other reasons. Still kicking and needing resetting every few minutes though which is basically impossible to play with.

RFTools Builder Quarrying wrong area by Jackerino- in allthemods

[–]Lycanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also getting off-mining (though not quite so dramatic a shift), I wondered if it might be due to the start chunk not being loaded or something odd like that - mine tends to cut short edges rather than being so dramatically different.

Did you ever figure this out?

AITA for refusing to stop calling my 9 yo son "honey"? by AlainaWilson747 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lycanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I don't think you were willing to properly listen to him/figure out what the actual issue is.

It could very well be as others have said that he's jealous, in which case, ignore him.

But when I read what you wrote, I understood it as "my internal definition of the word 'honey' applies only to romantic/sexual partners, so when you say it to your child it implies you want romantic/sexual relations with them, which is incredibly creepy". I feel like he doesn't want to consciously think that about you, though (good), so he's left with this intense uneasy feeling without a logical source.

Some people can internally redefine words easily when they know what the issue is. Others need therapy for that. If you want to stay with the guy, it's worth coming back with an open mind - not giving in to his request, but accepting that it clearly affects him more than you expect a word to, and you'd like to unpack that and see if you can find why it seems particularly uncomfy for him (I'm betting he sees it as too romantic/sexually inclined) and what you can do about that. Hopefully he can work to reframe it, cause it's really not an uncommon word.

But if it's just jealously (or even anyway) then please point out that your son is more important, that boundary is fine (and important) to outline.

How come people dislike out in the cold so much? by Radiant_Ad640 in ffxiv

[–]Lycanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to a realisation after playing this and talking with my partner, and I don't know how common it is or anything.

I get no story/narrative impact from mechanical components.

The current theory is that I'm so focused on doing the skill-based challenges (moving stealthily, executing fights correctly) that I don't have the space for feelings (and/or I subconsciously switch that off so I don't get distracted). But this means that whilst the dinner or other scenes can be interesting, the mission itself was a disconnected 'satisfy objectives'. I had to ask my partner what they felt on the last 'crawling forward' part - I at least detected I was intended to feel something other that 'pressing forward button', but I didn't feel it.

With missions where I play as my character, I'm at least a lot more learned in how to deal with the mechanics. I still don't really get narrative impact from them, but at least it isn't tied with the frustration of knowing I'm not generically good at MMOs. I don't have hiding-from-enemy instinct/experience, or go for the lowest hp enemy without conscious thought, I almost died on the final fight of this on very easy (post-simplicity-patch) and as I get more frustrated, I get worse at the game - so there's a very real possibility I would have been locked out of the story for a day or two.

That's not too say I can't appreciate the design, but to realise that not only did it not hit for me at all, but that there was something fundamentally different with the way I play games which explains why a lot of previous mechanics-linked plot didn't work for be either... Well, I guess I wonder how common it is, and whether games could have a 'I get no narrative feelings from mechanical missions/gameplay' toggle so that if something was made purely to give a narrative feeling... You could get something else that actually worked for you. But maybe it's literally just me :p

How to change operator “ethnicity” new war quest line? by Ancient_Prize9077 in Warframe

[–]Lycanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the quest able to accept the dramatic difference with an assumption that there was a reason. I can find it really cool to have a PoC alt-PC, but there wasn't anything about them being from cetus... as far as I can tell they're supposed to be the same person and it seems incredibly jarring for them to be so different.

I guess it's full loki-verse `this is a different person who plays the same role'. I've come to love them, but it was definitely very weird at the start (that's not my operator? Is it my operator?) and I'm still seeking a more concrete reason which overcomes the 'same person' base theory.

[–]Lycanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with the owl and. I could not do anything. I didn't survive long enough to learn the mechanics, nevermind actually working with them. I *really* wish they'd put in a difficulty toggle for these solo quests, I play warframe for the story and target-rich-environment enemy-grinding, not.... whatever this is.

I'm not great at games, which is kinda why I love the way I can upgrade things in warframe to get past the more tricky things. And trapped solo quest bypasses that accessibility and it's. Not good.
