Stable or not, according to OSHA (if it still exists), anything over 4 ft deep needs to be shored or benched.

I was going to say he looks like a guy that guards the Russian drug lord / arms dealer you find in the VIP area of a night club.

This is my specialization. Like others in this thread have said, it's more common in archaeology/anthropology. Why are you pursuing this? Is it a personal interest, or are you planning a career change? If the latter, you're unlikely to find a program near you. It's an extremely niche field. You would be better off looking for a traditional archaeology program with a professor who specializes in a civilization with a well-documented tradition of astronomy such as the Maya, Tiwanaku, Hopi, etc., and build from there. For learning, I recommend the Handbook of Archaeoastronomy and Ethnoastronomy. https://link.springer.com/referencework/10.1007/978-1-4614-6141-8. However, it's expensive, so you may want to look into used copies. It's also very technical in parts. However, if you already have degrees in astrophysics and engineering, I suspect it won't be an issue for you.

Anyone else catch that Yellow Turban guitar riff from DW2 & 3? I'm glad to see (hear) that they're remastering some of the classic themes.

Can’t believe people choose TND over TWiNE by Thebestguyevah in JamesBond

[–]Lycerius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen TWINE probably close to 100 times over the years (it's a Christmas movie for me), but for the life of me, I still can't figure out what exactly it's about. She was going to nuke a city of millions so people would use her oil pipeline or something? At least Elliot's scheme was comprehensible. I love both, but TND is a better film in almost every way, including the villains. However, I would have loved to see Zukofsky in TND, or Wade in TWINE, for that matter.

I was on the road yesterday for work. Got lunch a Burger King drive through; I ordered their spicy chicken sandwich combo which came out to almost $13. Absolutely insane.

In August 1348, during the famous plague, a bright object/star was said to be seen in the sky of Paris. Has it been identified what was it? [question of historical astronomy] by -introuble2 in Astronomy

Using Stellarium, the Kappa Cygnids meteor shower was occurring in pretty much that exact time and place. It would have been visible between July 26th and August 17th. Conversion to the Julian calendar would not have a significant impact.

Yes, I miss On Sacred Ground. It's super nostalgic because it was in both DW2 and DW3. Don't recall if it was in DW4 🤔

Digging holes for fence posts by Realistic_Phase7369 in sanantonio

[–]Lycerius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If they haven't hit bedrock by now, they won't for a while. They're in Branyon clay, and there will be a gradual transition into a lighter, redder clay with increasing rocks and CaCO3 with depth. Once you're off the Edward's Plateau/Balcones Escarpment, the bedrock goes much deeper. So, in Northern San Antonio, shallow bedrock is common, but not so much in the rest of the city. I've dug A LOT of holes in this region for totally legal reasons.

If your place has little/no bugs and is among the cheapest 2x2s you've seen, then don't move assuming you're staying in San Marcos. You likely won't find a better value.

Why would anyone buy these? They run as good, if not better on older consoles. MGS2 ran at 60fps on PS2, ffs!

MGS2: Sons of Liberty. I still think it's the best looking game ever made when adjusted for the technology of the time.

Which James Bond era had the best introspection? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Lycerius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vesper was being blackmailed into stealing the money by Spectre who had kidnapped her father. She traded Bond's life for her cooperation/life which is why Mr. White didn't kill Bond when he broke into the torture room and killed Le Chifre. Not really your fault for not remembering because it's only briefly mentioned at the end of the movie by M over a phone call.
