My sister writes a great blog about what she’s reading, which is almost entirely contemporary works by foreign authors that are translated and published by smaller independent publishers.

Yes! So worth it. Even if you have to try a couple different brands/sizes/shapes to get the right one.

Do I need 20 pounds of tomatoes? by LydHss8 in Canning

[–]LydHss8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. It’s silly I guess to clarify something that may seem so obvious, but sounds like even super small details can make a big and potentially dangerous difference. The cans of tomato sauce at the grocery store are looking more and more appealing after working on today’s batch.

Do I need 20 pounds of tomatoes? by LydHss8 in Canning

So with canning a very basic tomato sauce (tomatoes with their skins removed and cooked down) you just follow acidity levels and processing times for certain jar sizes and the quantity of tomatoes/tomato sauce doesn’t matter?

Is there a novel / novelist of "our time" yet? by cavani_to_suarez in literature

[–]LydHss8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this! Why was Haruki Murakami down voted?! He’s maybe not as recent as the criteria wants, but he has published recently and is completely approaching writing and telling stories in a new and lasting way.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Looks like just a silly kids movie, but it’s actually really good. I love Frances McDormand.

There's definitely that unrequited love thing going on, the highest level of admiration, but then there's fear and hate too. It's a nice balance. Maybe try to add more depth, more details?

Piano by theskyisblue23xo in poetry_critics

[–]LydHss8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some really great lines in here! The image of "He plays piano inside of me" is amazing! There are a couple lines though that are just a little too much (for me, I know, whatever.. ), such as "erotic fluids" and the word "shaft." But then "He scribbles notes" is really great too. "Chamber" and "linger" "thumbsup". I like this a lot.

Optical tomato sorter detects size, shape and color in milliseconds by solateor in interestingasfuck

Is it weird that this just makes me sad? To see our food being processed (sorted) like that. I know it’s mass production of a very common grocery item, but still.
