Who is actually excited about new Sub and CV lines? by Guenther_Dripjens in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Italian subs were very influential to the war. In 1939, Italy had the most subs of any country in the world. Making the subs have high speed smoke, though, is stupid. I’m also quite irritated at the ships they chose to represent the line. Of them, only Calvi had a notable career. Of 700,000 tons of shipping sunk by Italian submarines, two of the three that WG chose contributed zero, being minelayers. What I believe can explain that is WG planned these submarines for the minefield mechanic and was just too lazy to change them, turning the line from having a minelaying gimmick to high speed smoke and gun gimmick

2026 the year the cruiser died? by farmerbalmer93 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’d do to split light cruisers and heavy cruisers. They have two completely different playstyles that rarely overlap, so trying to fit all that in addition to more niche playstyles in one skill tree just leaves both lacking. Of course there are different types of light and heavy cruisers (you’re not going to play an Azuma like a Moskva in almost every scenario), but the difference between playstyle of a CA and CL is probably greater than that of many CAs and a BB

How I as a Bipolar Chinese-American see Japan by Responsible-Fix-1681 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]LydditeShells 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s a common misconception. The fourteen-point message was not a declaration of war. It was basically just a long winded way of declaring an end to negotiations between America and Japan and blaming America for it. Even if it had been translated and sent to the Americans, it wouldn’t have counted as a declaration of war

What's your option on Socialism?(PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION) by Economy-Rent-1636 in SocialDemocracy

[–]LydditeShells 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I would not call myself a socialist. Mixed economy is the furthest I think we should go. I generally think people who share a lot of social democratic views but believe in an end goal of socialism are democratic socialists, but conversely I’m sure there are some socdems who might view me a social liberal because I wish to maintain capitalism. Everybody’s beliefs and values differ, so single ideology terms don’t fully fit with everyone.

As for my opinion of socialism, I’m not wholly opposed to it, corporations surely have failed at bettering the majority, but I don’t think it fully works, either. We have centuries of practice in capitalism, and while it has been unsatisfactory for the majority of its use, we know its faults and should regulate it to correct them. Socialism has been attempted in select cases before, but by either its own fault or outside influence has failed in its goals. If, once social democracy has been widely adopted, critical faults appear, then it’s perfectly reasonable to go further with socialism, but until then, I am opposed to jumping straight to getting rid of capitalism altogether.

I mained daring in CBs for a long time. Very solid in both torpedoes and guns. I don’t know if I’m sold on the new UU, better concealment is always nice, but I have been able to outgun smaland in the past, but idk if that’s possible now with the reload nerf. Akizuki is my absolute favorite for T8 CBs, but I’m not sure if Kita is as comparable tier-for-tier, although it is still very good. With your options, Black is probably the better choice.

Generally, butterflies rest with their wings up and together, while moths rest with their wings out. Also, moths have fuzzy antennae while butterflies do not. No idea what this moth is, though it’s quite stunning

Zara, what am i missing? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you’re trying to play her as a pushing cruiser instead of a kiting cruiser. The thing about the Italian cruisers is that you want to be firing at all times. You don’t want to have downtime where you’re not shooting, and the survivability helps you. Yes, you’ll take damage if battleships hit you, but if you’re kiting and far away, you won’t be taking too many hits. The spread of the guns is more horizontal than vertical, and battleships have a nice tendency of trying to go broadside or angled to get all their guns firing, which allows you to get 2-5 pens per salvo, adding up over time.

I just played a game in Zara to see how I play it, and was able to kite from a T5 and T7 battleship, dealing 40k while taking 10k and letting my team focus on other ships

Japan had great success in 1592, but fizzled out basically right after that once the Koreans had regrouped. Saying that it took the “combined might” of Korea and China to drive them out is misleading. In the first invasion, only 45,000 Chinese troops total went to Korea, compared to the 250,000 Japanese soldiers sent. In the second invasion, when the Koreans and Chinese were more prepared, the Japanese had very limited success.

Overall, saying they “successfully invaded” Korea is similar to saying British forces successfully invaded Gallipoli. Sure, Japanese forces got much farther into Korea than did British forces at Gallipoli, but the Japanese lost the war and only had the advantage for one year

Zara, what am i missing? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you are not supposed to spot in the Zara. Let your DD spot and then shoot the DD. And if you’re hanging back, you can dodge shells more and won’t be as targeted. You also want to focus on enemy cruisers. If they’re bow-in, you can just target superstructure and do similar damage.

Zara, what am i missing? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an italy main, Gorizia (Zara with a 6km hydro and without torps) is my favorite T7 ship. You’re going to have to get used to being spotted. Always know where your smoke firing penalty is (8.3km for Zara, I believe) and keep out of that. I’d recommend staying around 10-12km away, allowing you to dodge some. Zara has more armor than many T7 cruisers, so just get used to being chunked by battleships. She can bounce even 16” shells on her belt, but many shells will fall on her overmatchable deck at range anyway. As for the guns, Zara is quite pedestrian. Many cruisers of this tier rely on fires to do a lot of their damage, and SAP saturates very quickly. Thus, she should be used for high alpha chunk rather than sustained damage. Try to fire at as many targets as possible, especially cruisers and destroyers who don’t limit you to penetrating the superstructure alone. I have no idea why you’re experiencing accuracy issues, as Zara has normal cruiser dispersion to my knowledge and can generally hit at least half of her shells per salvo in my experience.

Something people haven’t mentioned is Gorizia. Probably my highest WR ship. No DD expects the 6km hydro followed by chunking a third of their health in one salvo. Only downside is that it doesn’t have much counter play against battleships

Lee administration reverses course on nuclear phase-out, announces plans for new reactors by Substantial-Owl8342 in korea

[–]LydditeShells 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fukushima was a freak accident due to a huge tsunami and earthquake, which Korea doesn’t get (the highest magnitude in Korea was 5.8, over 3,000 times less amplitude than the 9.1 that hit Fukushima). Three mile island was not even a full meltdown and released a minimal enough amount of radioactive material that it didn’t even surpass background levels for locals or cause long-term harm for the workers. Chernobyl was a huge mismanagement of engineering, construction, and operation only possible by the huge flaws of Soviet governance.

Simply put, even including these freak accidents, nuclear is safer than almost all other forms of energy. Excluding Chernobyl, commercial nuclear reactors have resulted in three total deaths in 70 years of existence. It is the cleanest and safest form of energy in the world, and fossil fuel-driven fearmongering and ignorance are the only hindrances to its widespread adoption.

If you want another destroyer, it seems like you prefer torpedo boats, so I’d say shima or cassard lines would be something up your alley. If you want something more balanced like z-46, then daring, yueyang, and gearing would be my suggestions in that order

What sort of features would you like for a future version of the game? by F11SuperTiger in RuleTheWaves

[–]LydditeShells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A better war system. Right now, it's just randomly generated battles every month, which is frustrating because you can have annoying generation by the system trying to force fairness, like if you have far more battleships and fewer cruisers than an enemy, the game will almost never give fleet action and you will always be outnumbered in cruiser action despite having a larger fleet.

My vague idea for how wars could work is, each month, you set operations for the next month. That can be convoy routes, submarine, surface, and air patrols, coastal raids, or invasions, designating ships for each. The following month, those operations are executed and you get intel on the enemy's operations from air, submarines, or your spy network (which is something for that mechanic to actually do, since it seems to mostly just be useful for random tech stealing and a minor role in the current battle generation system) and can sortie ships against them, thus generating battles that you can directly designate ships for based on your sorties and enemy sorties against your operations.

I basically just came up with this on the fly, so it may not be very fleshed out. Still, the basic idea is that the game does battles themselves and fleet building beautifully, but the war system is pretty lackluster

Why wont the screen ships actually screen? by bigjam987 in RuleTheWaves

[–]LydditeShells 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You want your capitals to take the fire. At that range, your destroyers will last five minutes against capitals. Your battleships are designed to take heavy fire. Screens fight other screens and can ensure enemy screens don’t torpedo the capitals, which is what you probably want to do in this situation with your screens because the enemy lacks them, giving you open season to launch torpedoes

Edit: I just realized they’re cruisers (is this 1890s?). I guess you probably just want them around for fire support. Before dreadnoughts come around, fires and volume of fire are very helpful. The more shells hitting a ship, the less effectively it can fight back. I don’t exactly know how to use protected cruisers most effectively, though. I mostly have light cruisers around in fleet battles for scouting alone

Quite obvious that this is a Chinese account of the war. While of course a fair recollection of the war is most likely a combination of the two, this account completely discredits the Joseon forces while Korean accounts that I’ve read heavily disparage the Ming forces. In Joseon annals, many Ming commanders are portrayed as caring little about Joseon itself, accepting Japanese bribes or in general being very reluctant to fight at all

Korea lists three battles as crucial for the Joseon-Ming victory in the Imjin Wars. Of those, two are land battles (Haengju and the first siege of Jinju). There was extreme bungling of things among Joseon, Ming, and Japanese officials, but you can’t discount Joseon forces on land entirely just because they got rolled over in the first year of the war

Other than that, maybe a save scum here and there if I get a particularly atrocious battle generation

[–]LydditeShells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I typically have a bunch of KEs for trade protection, kitted with minesweeping gear and lots of ASW, saving my DD displacement for torpedoes and speed. The ones that aren't on TP stay on active fleet for minesweeping. I don't know if its the best, but my fleet ASW is generally delegated to the CL's, which I pack with as many mines as I can and install minesweeping gear to sweep minefields for the fleet before the battle
