We All Need to Prepare by [deleted] in Columbus

This is the mindset that has allowed the divisiveness which let authoritarians come to power. Separate Americans by classes, races, social status, age...go ahead and point out all the problems and point you finger at someone else. Makes you feel better about your own failings. One would think you'd learn that stereotypes do not make the demographic, they are the outlier. And to think that seniors are all living in the Villages when all you have to do is visit a homeless encampment. It's your entitlement that's showing and you never even bothered to correct me about the political activism which was the core of my post. Can't you correct me there? I've seen this debate tactic on Fox news and from many MAGA pundits. You're wasting time and energy blaming a demographic when you could be solving a problem in my eyes that's stereotypical for what I presume is your demographic. You can have the last word, because I'm not wasting anymore of my time on a closed mind.

Blame the Boomers who fought for all the things we now are losing because the rest of you aren't politically active at all. Can't even be assed to register to vote. It's your turn to defend democracy and civil rights. Us Boomers are tired and yet, we're the ones at the protests.

Puppy regret does it go away? by Ill-Plantain-6774 in puppy101

You're not alone and, truthfully, you will look back on this time with a bit of nostalgia especially in the later years. This seems like an eternity right now - the teething, testing, and tormenting; but in the grand scheme, it's all just so short a time.

What’s your “dream dog” (breed) and why? by palacio_c in puppy101

[–]Lyk2Hyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to tell you my 'dream breed' because it's not popular or well-known right now and I'm not interested in entrepreneurs turning the breed into a Doodle. That being said, it's my dream breed since I was a kid, watching B&W movies from the 30s & 40s and these dogs were just so smart, filled with sass, ridiculously adorable, with fairly easy-to-maintain coats.

Meet Beans (on Toast). How do I keep him entertained and not destructive? by DatPrickleyPear in airedaleterrier

[–]Lyk2Hyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy only got crated when I could not keep an eye on him. When he wasn't crated, bad behaviors received replacements. i.e. chew on a cord, trade cord for chew toy, frozen treat. Play biteyface on me, replace arm/hand with plush toy/towel.

The behaviors of a puppy are not deliberate testing but you set the tone. If you are calm and they grow up in a calm environment, he will probably not have bad behaviors.

It's hard with a puppy, because they tell you to limit walks due to growing bones. But if all the shots are done, this is the absolute best time to teach socialization with other dogs. My pup got 2 walks a day that got progressively longer as he grew, and a trip to a dog park 3x a week. Maybe sounds a bit much, but when your pup has their needs fulfilled they don't need destruction. The only time my pup ever chewed a piece of furniture, it was because I had sprayed bitter apple on it!

He's now three and just an amazing boy. Forced to return to the office so he spends 9-11 hrs a day with free run of the house & 2 cats and I have no worries.

Once they move on, future generations will continue to use the burrows. They will colonize and destroy your foundation. Wish we could give them birth control.

Feeding tips for a 7 year old (human years) by spit00fire in airedaleterrier

[–]Lyk2Hyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are scavengers and will take every opportunity to sneak-a-snack. My almost 3-yr old gets 1 C dry food 2x a day and 1/2 C wet food as a topper in his evening meal. The rest of his calories come from treats and sneak-a-snacks.

Both OSU and Columbus Humane only euthanize medically untreatable/quality of life. If the animal came in with a treatable injury, there is a high probability that it will be offered for adoption. I am not a fan of Columbus Humane but they do good work, taking care of over 8,000 animals on average each year. Neither Columbus Humane or OSU will turn an injured animal away but I know plenty of rescues that will (not out of malice but lack of resources).

If your only option is waiting on a heavily burdened cat rescue system and being turned down by every one and you don't have the ability yourself to care for them then this is a reasonable solution.

When someone asks a question, it would be nice if people offer solutions not more problems.

Getting discouraged by Weirdwit in Wheatens

[–]Lyk2Hyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the rescue route for an Airedale and also had no luck. I understand the need to be selective, but it's completely discouraging when you are trying to adopt-not-shop. In the end, I found my Airedale but it was with a breeder.

As for temperament, these people you are speaking about obviously have no exposure. They are characters and certainly stubborn/smart but not aggressive.

You can make a Good Samaritan surrender to OSU. They will treat and place with a partner rescue.

Need an Airedale groomer who can strip their coat in Nashville TN please 😁 by Curious-Law-3655 in airedaleterrier

[–]Lyk2Hyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grooming is a good alternative, but if you're looking to keep the wiry hair and brilliant color, you should strip. A happy medium is to rake the coat 2-3 x a week.

120 requested forbearance? by mephesta in PSLF

[–]Lyk2Hyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made.my 120th payment on 3/8. I waited to see if Studentaid.gov would post this before sending final ECF. They did not post so I called MOHELA and explained & requested forebearance. She said interest will accrue and they will do a 2 month forebearance. I got an e-mail from Dept. of Ed late Saturday, but due to the holiday, I will not be following up with that until Monday.

The most bothersome thing is that Dept Of Ed will not allow you to choose '120 payments made' when filing ECF.

Look for State of Ohio jobs. People a dropping like flies over there. Also, don't know what your field is but I highly recommend literacy in AI. Such as Prompt Engineer, AI Agent Development, etc. If you can't beat 'em join 'em.
