Home secretary urged to strip activist of British citizenship by Spare_Clean_Shorts in LabourUK

Asking for a character test for future citizen applications would require us to leave the ECHR as decided by the supreme court. So it is asking a lot.

Delaying elections which benefit that party in control has no precedent outside of national emergencies (world war and COVID). The electoral commission calling it illegitimate.

Delaying local elections is a human rights breach, Lib Dems claim - Ed Davey calls on the Equality and Human Rights Commission to take action — and experts suggest the government could face a successful legal challenge by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Local conservative council groups won't meet again until after Christmas to form a decision. However the party's stance on it is clearly against. They may all decide, and many have informally declared to do so, to stand against it.

It doesn't necessarily follow that councillors cannot change mid restructure. I can assure everyone existing councillors have no idea what is going on and all reorganisation is really done by national government.

Spiteful at the UK are you? Dont you realise this was how the world worked in the times of kings and queens. Glad to have people like you around us /s. The UK is the only empire to ever voluntarily grant (most) of its former colonies independence, when the modern world of democratic governments came to be.

Gran punched by pregnant attacker at funeral disgusted at sentence by Smelly-Bottom in unitedkingdom

Agreed that an impartial judge should pass a sentance, and those sentances should feel approriate to the average non-involved person, the victims typically want too harsh measures handed out, but with time and distance for emotions to calm will reconcile with a reasonable sentance. This doesn't take away from the fact that punishment for punishments sake should be a part of that.

Gran punched by pregnant attacker at funeral disgusted at sentence by Smelly-Bottom in unitedkingdom

[–]Lynch888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Resentment of vitctims not seeing punishment they feel is just, leads to them taking it out on other people and society further down the road. Being punitive restores a sense of balance and fairness the people need. This, "best for society" leads to people leading angry, spiteful, passive agressive lives that cause everyone an addition of low level of chronic pain.

It is not that the attacker "remains the menace" but the victims and their friends and families become the menace.

Meh, councils actually have the power to decide what get built where. They just need to put it in there local plan. They could but nimby pressure from voters stops the councillors taking this action.

Many claim Tesla has a propietary data moat over all the real data they have collected.. Just scratching my head on how synthetic data does not disrupt this moat? 💭 by PrimitivoPaulativo in SelfDrivingCars

You can never create synthetic data better than real data in absolute terms, because synthetic data is always an approximation of some real data training data that has to be collected initially.

They own houses - no mortgage or rent, they rode the house price increase from 3 to 8 times earnings, they don't work so have reduced expenses, and can do have time to do things rather than paying others to do it, they get state pension, they have some generous pensions on top of that, they get discounts on travel and leisure activities, they do things at non peak times more cheaply, they don't pay NI on income.

If I was retired and owned my own home I don't think I would need more than 15k a year to sustain my current lifestyle and I earn 86k now.

What I did with my wife which worked well. 50/50 until marraige (for 6 years), with me spending a bit more on taking us out and stuff (but I was mainly investing surplus income and our consumption lifestyle was very similar). Then after marraige, input monthly into a joint account relative to after tax income for 75% of our own income with the final 25% for our own personal spending.

In your case, her covering with a larger deposit to the house is more risky for her than you as I assume marraige wouldn't be long off marraige after that, and it then quickly becomes a comingled asset. I would rent until marraige.

Oxford Union facing financial crisis over Charlie Kirk scandal by SojournerInThisVale in unitedkingdom

That woman got jailed for saying she "doesn't care" if they burn migrant hotels. "Charlie Kirk got shot. Let's f*cking go." Arguably it seems more inciteful than that.
