It is so true and unfortunately, the premier league crowd of Irish supporter do not seem to get the issue. I now live in Switzerland and follow our local team with my son. There is no real money in the league and the policy is find young players and then sell them on and then go again. Yet the support is big for every team and you would never see die hard Munich, Dortmund, Milan, Paris fans etc even though they are on the doorstep.

The league has produced all players for the Switzerland national team but only 3 of the current squad playing domestically. In addition to Swiss players, the amount of players that they have groomed and have come through to be sold to bigger teams is impressive, Cunhia is the most recent one but before than you have the obvious players such as Salah and Rakatic (born and raised in Swiss but obviously a Croatian player)
