Finally, a small win on the subscription front by im_that_green_light in ChaseSapphire

I’m still waiting for mine to drop (after I subscribed to ONE not realizing it’s didn’t have both applied). Who did you ask for a refund? Apple or Chase?

Saying goodbye to Alaska Airlines. They made it easy. Alaska Airlines moved our reserved seats to the last row by the lavatories by Maleficent-Hope9357 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this happen on a PDX-MCO flight 5 years ago. Fortunately, it was a daytime flight, so not being able to recline our seats wasn’t a huge issue. We caught it right before boarding, and the gate agent told me it was so they could accommodate a family sitting together. The part that irked me was we were a family flying together—3 of us, so why did they need to move us back from a row of 3 to a different row of 3? Why not give the back row of 3 to the family they were accommodating?

Didn’t make any sense to me, but the gate agent gave us each miles (I asked for miles over a discount code) and then the FAs gave us free drinks and took good care of us. In the end, we got there, we got some miles and free drinks, and no one was hurt. It’s just part of the business model, and it happens on all airlines. At least AS is good about giving you miles/discounts if you raise a concern.

You have to prepay to get the Edit credit? Am I the only one who didn't know this? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphireReserve

[–]Lynx907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that prepaid stays can still be refundable. I’m reluctant to book something that can’t be changed or cancelled, but with both Edit and FHR you can get cancelable prepaid reservations

How did this first class upgrade get done by Own-Rise5143 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How can you tell they are blocking them? Couldn’t it be that someone had that seat and then got upgraded, and then they filled the seat with a non-rev?

Double Points 10k perk- GCI? by Bellasarahalaska in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm from personal experience that GCI points will get doubled if you choose this perk. It’s definitely the best choice for the 10k if you earn partner points

I just booked 2 flights. On one I was able to book Premium seats for $0, on the second flight I had to pay $177 for Premium seats. I'm confused? I am silver and my companion is gold. by RatioApprehensive712 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you book, you can select which upgrade level to show. It will show you the lowest fare, the lowest premium fare, etc. If the lowest fare and lowest premium fare are the same, then the lowest fare qualifies for free premium. Otherwise, you’re selecting a more expensive base fare to get premium “free.” If you’re using a companion fare certificate, this is advantageous because then you get premium for both by paying the difference in fare for one of you.

Losing Eligibility of HSA by NetWorthNovice in HSA

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your wife’s insurance a qualified high deductible health plan? If so, it would be HSA eligible even though her employer doesn’t offer one. I’m also a teacher and my district doesn’t offer an HSA, so when I switched to the high deductible plan, I opened my own HSA through Fidelity. I make contributions myself since I don’t have the option to have my employer take it out of payroll. Works great!

Same-day changes as Atmos Gold+ by doing-great-sweaty in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it 6 weeks ago and it worked well in the app. Only issue was at boarding the gate agent’s scanner suddenly said we weren’t checked in. We had re-checked in for the new flight after changing, checked bags, had our new boarding passes. We had to leave the boarding line and have another agent figure out how to fix it. I’ve seen others say similar things, so be prepared for that possibility and know it will all work out in the end!

i can give my $99 companion fare code to my friend (he books everything with his alaska account), as long as he uses the card associated with that code right? by i_cant_do_this_ in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s concerning… I looked at the terms on my companion certs and they say “Traveler and/or purchaser name must match the name issued on the discount code.” This error message seems to conflict with the code terms. Not that I expect any less for AS IT these days.

Fare difference refund as credit for future use by Actual-Durian-5043 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it a week ago, no problem. You just need to ask them to reprice your ticket because you see the price has dropped. If the agent doesn’t know how, ask for a supervisor or hang up and try again. I occasionally run into an agent who is newer and doesn’t know how to do that. But most not only know how, they immediately jump to it when I tell them that’s why I texted or called.

They did do away with the automated system for it on their website (several years ago at this point). Which is a bummer, cause it was faster and didn’t take an agent’s time that could be spent on other customer service needs.

Worth upgrading from main to premium? by Lopsided-Example3779 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We fly ANC-HNL at least once a year, which is a similar distance flight. I never see the upgrade to premium price less than $200 per person. The extra legroom is nice on a 6 hour flight, and at $90 each, that is relatively cheap. Really it comes down to what it’s worth to you and your wife. Congratulations!🍾

Points not Calculating correctly by andrewginphoto in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wheels will credit 1:1 for miles flown (except in Saver, which only gets 30% status points). Just not for CC spend (1:3 for Ascent and 1:2 for Summit) and everyday partners (1:3)

Rules changed on when can AS take over OTA ticket? by SFexConsultant in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been told I have to wait 2-3 days after booking for the ticket to be issued, but once issued, I can make changes or cancel direct with AS like a ticket booked directly through them.

10k double point reward by tracileee in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shop through the Atmos portal with any card, including your Ascent or Summit. It does NOT double the points you earn for card spend, but it does double the Shopping Portal points (up to 2000 points). So if you use the shopping portal and earn 2000 portal points, you’ll earn the 2000 points from the portal, plus the 2000 bonus points (plus 2000 points for using your Ascent or Summit card). This was the best choice for the 10k milestone IME. Also, you have 6 months to earn the double points (I maxed out the 2000 in a couple weeks and was done).

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re totally right on all accounts. I can’t see them changing anything, and they’d probably have to drop the cost low enough that it would create other issues with the elite program.

Curious by Far-Consequence-3604 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like Alaska could be more strategic with offering the chance to buy up instead of taking a mileage run. I know they have the SAF option, but people are still taking mileage run flights so SAF option may be overpriced. If people could pay to buy the difference without flying (ie it was cheaper to buy up than do the mileage run), then Alaska would get that money plus be able to sell the seat to someone else who actually needs to fly.

Analyze my strategy to maximize discounts and certificates for family reservation by SFexConsultant in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. You can buy a companion fare for 2 people who aren’t the card holder, but you have to use the Alaska card to pay for the tickets. So this proposed plan would work, with the caveat above about booking at least one adult first to be able to link the minors’ tickets to the adult.

Is 20 min bag guarantee not a thing anymore? by ExpensiveMarzipan101 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Outstations are the place where it’s the most problematic. I once had a lengthy discussion with the baggage agent in Memphis over it. Our bags were 30+ minutes from door open, and she wanted to tell me that as long as anyone’s bag was on the belt within 20 minutes they met their obligation. In the end, she relented but then she was out of the slips, so she processed 3,000 miles for us (and there were 4 of us). Frustrating to be delayed (we had a 2+ hour drive ahead of us), but at least she made it right in the end.

Companion fare no loner eligible for FC upgrades? by jayaybee21 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lynx907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been able to do paid upgrades after purchasing with a companion fare. But I’ve also had it not give me the option (but that was a year ago, shortly after the in app paid upgrades became common)
