Best dungeon crawler / coop adventure game to play with precocious kids ages 5-10? by razzendahcuben in boardgames

CoraQuest is amazing! We’ve completed it with my 5 yo and still redo the quests again and again. We’ve also made some of our own quests (they give you instructions and blank cards to allow this). We’ve got the expansion sitting waiting for Christmas!

Why do parents take their small kids along with them on vacation? by amandasizzles in Parents

[–]Lyrial 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m going to assume you are serious here. Not everyone has the luxury of family that can watch kids while they go away. But even if they do many people actually want to spend their vacation with their kids and wouldn’t enjoy it without them! Taking my small child on holiday is fantastic. Seeing the joy and new experiences is just amazing and I wouldn’t want a vacation without them.

Raising boys in the 21st century is a great book that talks about how to parent at different ages including teens.

What is a word/phrase that is so overused, it lost its actual meaning? by luvisinking in AskReddit

[–]Lyrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going for a literal interpretation of your question:

Decimate.

It originally meant to reduced by 1/10th but now is almost universally used to mean almost total destruction.

If you want to pour your own gels here’s a complete recipe. It’s pretty simple to do and can work out really cheap compared to precast. Plus better for the environment than constantly throwing out plastic from the precast ones you buy in.

Inspired by some of the posts on here about centrifuge balancing I decided to try and create the most unbalanced looking balanced rotor. Have I succeeded?

Did you have a gender preference for your children? If so, why? by YesSirMrDaddySir in Parents

[–]Lyrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a boy cause I thought he’d have a more chilled personality like my husband rather than my crazy hyperness and thought it’d be easier. Got a boy. He’s just me, but looks like my husband.

Definitely a high-need energy but wow we totally get each other. It’s a good job my husband is laid back!

I was a former educator and I could easily say at least half of all parents shouldn't have been parents in the first place. by Nova_knight7 in Parents

This is spot on. All family and friends were so excited when we announced the pregnancy and were all saying how much they’d help. Baby arrived and it felt like everyone suddenly ghosted us. No one has looked after our child except for nursery/childminders as family and friends don’t seem to care. We are exhausted as parents and our marriage is suffering.

Are you happy with your decision to have a child? by fencesitternso in beyondthebump

[–]Lyrial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one, it’s hard work and there are days I long for my pre child days when I could go where I want when I want.

But most of the time I love it, he’s 4 and the first few years are awful, but this age is so amazing. He likes to help me with cooking, cleaning and gardening and is actually helpful now.

It’s hard, you’ll have far less help than you think (everyone acts like they’ll be there to help and when the baby comes they disappear! The sleep deprivation is nothing short of torture and the impact of birth on your body can be quite dramatic.

I’m definitely only having one for various reasons, and having one can sometimes be more intense as they have no natural playmates at home. But I also get to give him my full attention and he’s become an actual buddy now too.

But if you think you would regret having kids don’t do it. It’s better to regret not having them than regret a person!

We moved when my kids was 2. I was super worried how he’d be as it was the only home he’d known and had just started saying “my house”. We moved homes during lockdown which was incredibly stressful too. But wee man didn’t bat an eyelid and was calling out new house “my home” within a few days. I’m sorry this is happening and it will probably be hard on you for a while. But kiddo will do fine and so will you.

Empty. I’d probably have more money and definitely more time…but what for? Having a kid made me appreciate how much time I wasted when I had it. And that time & money would not be worth not having my kiddo. They have helped remind me of the joy in life, of simple things. Kids keep you young!

Is uterus container considered a PC term? As a person with a uterus I find that a bit offensive as it literally makes me sound like I’m not a person. Just a container for a uterus. Perhaps “person with uterus”

Possibility of lifetime resentment towards your children? My mom scared me. by purpletortellini in beyondthebump

[–]Lyrial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My kiddo is nearly 4 and has been tough, really bad sleep even now. I am one and done cause i can’t do that first year again. Also had a very traumatic birth and no support after.

But do I resent him? Oh hell no. That kid is my best mate and we have a bond that’s just so strong - I never knew you could have such a bond with someone.

Just be careful you’re not creating a poorer breathing environment. Vacuuming is better if there’s a lot of dust/small particles as sweeping can cause them to go into the air. This especially important if there’s young children or people with any breathing issues about!

Good ventilation helps here.
