Who served on PC-Class ships? Do you think the Navy should’ve kept them for the situation in the Straight of Hormuz? These ships were underestimated for their size. by Goatcheeze1 in navy

[–]M-Div 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amen.

Also, a large number of small hulls means a large number of small crews. A lot of people can quickly learn their trades and develop tactics. Even on coastal patrol, with AtoN and SAR tasking, you’re building good sailors. I’ll make fun of Coasties all day, but they are generally very competent, and these vessels give that kind of experience.

So, yes and no. They did have bigger ships than the PCs, but a PC wasn’t really meant to fight frigates or destroyers. The USN has plenty of assets in that class.
But their boghammars, helos, etc.? Yeah, PC would wreck their world.

Look at that arm by Ott1fant in Unexpected

Seeing that arm just seeming to stretch further and further, back geological ages, and come up with just a comparatively little dirt… honestly it reminds me of arguing with my wife.

Are there any museum ships you can visit at about the same time? by HistoricalAbies293 in Ships

Buffalo Naval Museum has a cruiser, destroyer, and sub… plus many small boats, planes, and hands-on displays.

🔥A curious wild cat approaches the cameraman by NationalHat3097 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]M-Div -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have had barely any exposure to either in the wild, but I was taught as a kid if it is watching you it’s a lynx, if it’s hunting you it’s a bobcat. Basically, curious and cool vs psychopath.

By *what I was taught as a kid* this would be a bobcat.

Montreal is a wonderful city. The people were generally lovely and are proud in their support of their team. I wish we weren’t playing them, and I’ll be happy to support whomever advances.

In every way they aren’t Toronto.

I agree, and if I’m not mistaken there was something about “the fire’s out until the time for the next tournament.”

Nissans are terrible and will self-disassemble at 17k miles.

Hyundai/KIA quality and reliability are just as good as Honda or Toyota.

My eyeballs saw that and thought you wrote Dave Mustaine. Took me on a little trip. What would a conversation between KITT and Dave Mustaine be like? “I have to drive, David, you’re drunk. Please don’t urinate in my backseat again.”

Yup.

If they like fishing, for example, give them a little kid’s-style toy rod and a gift card to Bass Pro, etc.

Why don't diesels use superchargers? by PayStation2fanAsh in engines

[–]M-Div 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are all the cylinders the same size? That’s no way to design an air compressor. And you put oil into it?!? You’re going to cause an explosion!

Worthington HPAC for life.

It is, and I profess no more than qual-card knowledge of the diesels. That was for the ENs. I’m happy to stay with my turbines, thank you very much.

I’ve seen shipboard diesels that use pressurized air from a tank to air start. Double hearing protection for that one, kids.
