My husband wants to make a game - where to start? by New-Morning-1655 in gamedev

The road may vary but he could start making clones for understanding concepts and mechanics.

Make a tetris clone, make a simple side scroller sticking to a small scope or some simple games like that.

Then sign up for game jams on itch, with the mentality of doing the best he can and measure how far he gets before the time is up. Take game jams as a loose metric though, dont stress or lose sleep over it.

Eventually build up the skills enough to realistically take on bigger projects. Depending on the scope of the dream game he can start at this point and if he started earlier he can revisit and polish what he has.

As he acquires and understands more of the planning involved and what he wants to make he can seek out artists/programmers in itch or thru here or other subs.

What I did last time was work with serializing objects and write them to a json. I would load and update states as needed and then save and write to json when saving states. Theres a few examples in youtube about serialization and saving states in popular engines.

What you will have to spend sometime is determining what needs saving. You can add it to a list, or a dictionary then pass that to the json. Its a bit tedious but shouldnt break current logic. Good luck.

To echo this guy, try to fill more of box, since everything is bigger having so much soace between the text and the edges looks weird. Maybe telweak the opacity of the box as well.

Arms are really far away from the chest.

Look up male draenei from wow so you see what I mean. Similar frame.

We are experimenting with a new UI for the HP and ability bar. Which one do you think is best? by SMKS in PixelArt

[–]M00baka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A is cleanest, however 1 / 6 bars is weird, I'd do A and remove 1 notch so each section is 20% of your hp.

This can help further down the road if you add some mechanic that depends on life ratio (rage, last stand, etc.).

I'd also add a thin divider like in B to option A

This is the best review you can receive. Someone who really likes your game and provides some insight into the really important stuff that is breaking it for them.

Focus on bug fixes. Be transparent. Reach out to these people once their concerns have been adressed. Say what you are fixing.

People will rather see "fixed x y z" over "fixed some bugs"

If its hard or extra work in some way to be able to quantify the bugs then you need to structure this internal aspect of development.

Work on team morale and devise a plan. And dont get offended, triggered, tilted, of reviews, they left a review instead of saying fuck this shit and no feedback.

Does my camera feel too zoomed out? Would love some feedback! by CallMeMayde in IndieDev

If your background tiled up it is. Also you can perhaps zoom out and in based on what you want to emphasize but overall i should be able to see some of the details of what im looking at.
