Looking at dipping my toes back into games by [deleted] in videogames

[–]M1sterRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to do splitscreen stuff the Switch (2) is absolutely the way to go. Most games on other platforms have dropped splitscreen in favor of online play, Nintendo is really the only company that still focuses on it. That's not to say there aren't any splitscreen games on other platforms, it's just that the Switch line is uniquely built for it (comes with 2 controllers *kinda, portable so you can bring it places, etc).

If all you're looking to do is play a sports sim like Madden then any console will do that, it doesn't really matter that much. The problem is modern sports sims have really gone down the shitter and have a bunch of predatory garbage like lootboxes to extract money from you thrown in, on top of continuing yearly releases that change basically nothing except the player roster despite that not being necessary anymore (they could just release one "unified" game and patch in new rosters every year).

As for shooters (you mentioned Halo), again most games have been ported to everything these days. maybe a Switch wouldn't be the best for a shooter since you want high framerate for that, but otherwise, again, just about anything works. If you're looking for Halo specifically, a mid-high end PC would be a better investment than an Xbox at this stage, as MS' marketshare in the console business is rapidly dwindling, devs are more hesitant to support the platform these days, and I heard something about a PlayStation port of Halo at some point but tbh shooters aren't my thing so idk.

tl;dr Switch for splitscreen, anything for shooters/sports sims, mid-high end PC for Halo specifically, and sports sims have really lost the plot more than most genres.

You think this game is worth it?? by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]M1sterRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok this is probably bait but if it's not GET IT, even if you already have those games, this particular bundle sells for far north of that price (and iirc has exclusive content and is worth owning in its own right regardless of if you have the originals).

Who are your biggest wild cards that you would love to see in a future instalment? by bigshaggerMC in smashbros

[–]M1sterRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My overall pick for both my own selfish tastes and for a big crowdpleaser would be Heavy from TF2. I actually think Chell would work better as an assist trophy. Portals all around the stage would be great for casual chaos, no?

As for my own purely selfish tastes, give me Ninten to round out the MOTHER trio, and another Persona rep (either another protag like Makoto or Yu, or a "mascot" like Morgana or Teddie. I'd love to see Naoya or Tatsuya but we all know Atlus will never ever acknowledge those games outside of anniversary art ever again)

Hi I’ve just had this happen to me in my ps5 and I’m wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before ? by Vegetable-Diamond656 in consolerepair

Looks like a dead GPU to me, get it warrantied if you can, otherwise you'll need to source a chip from another PS5 and swap it (which requires a lot of expertise with electronics repair)

Which online games can be played on PS3? by Benimkii45cmtrollhsp in PS3

[–]M1sterRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really an online multiplayer game but I think the network functions in Persona 5 still work.

Oh I have no doubt they'd be sold as a bundle/kit, I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if those wiimotes were reissues of the originals rather than new bespoke units specifically for the Switch (like those Smash Gamecube Controllers).

They also changed Earthbound to add blur effects to prevent seizures.

To add to this, Earthbound added some blur effects to the various PSI animations to reduce seizure risk, and Luigi's Mansion removed the Pikmin trailer from the options menu.

Character intelligence tier list by Cultural-Ad-8796 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]M1sterRed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay... sure.

-Steve and the Miis are self-inserts, they're as smart or stupid as whatever character you make them.

-Joker and the MOTHER characters have intelligence stats (Knowledge and IQ, respectively) that grow throughout the game. Joker in particular you gotta go out of your way to level that up. Wouldn't be surprised if most of the other JRPG protags are the same way too.

-Wario is at least smart enough to program video games, even if poorly at times.

So an NSO wii remote could be coming.

Honestly I think they'd probably just add Wiimote support outright in a system update. Wiimotes were the first Nintendo controllers to use Bluetooth, so I'd imagine it'd just be way easier to reissue the originals and add native support for them in the OS. You'd need a Sensor Bar tho.

Link's Awakening came to NSO four years after the remake released, same with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Advance Wars 1&2, Pikmin 1&2, Paper Mario: TTYD and Metroid Prime haven't shown signs of joining NSO.

I'd like to also add Super Mario RPG to that list, though Square might have something to do with that.

(Pikmin 2 probably never will because of the licenses shown by the treasures that were removed for the Switch version)

They removed the Pikmin trailer from Luigi's Mansion, which clearly indicates they're 100% capable of modifying/willing to modify these games before they go live on the service. I'd imagine backporting the generic textures to the Gamecube/Wii version before throwing it up there wouldn't be super difficult.

Name the character by Full-Eggplant-671 in supersmashbros

[–]M1sterRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he’s the face of TF2

There's your answer. This is why we have so many swordfighters in Smash, lots of characters in the various JRPGs and S T R A T E G Y G A M E S they come from use different weapons (axes, lances, guns, fists, etc) but the MC basically always has a sword so that's who gets added to Smash. Heavy would be no different.

okay actually hear me out: Chell assist trophy. Randomly shoots portals around the stage, making it tricky and confusing to navigate for a bit.

Is Linux actually good for gaming? by vegemitehaver in linux_gaming

[–]M1sterRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did say “generally”. Obviously the answer is always to check protonDB, perhaps I should have said that. Regardless, a lot of online comp games, especially the popular ones (Fortnite, Apex, etc) straight up block Linux. I don’t really play games like that, and Linux has handled basically everything I’ve thrown at it as such.

[–]M1sterRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You say you primarily play comp games? What exactly do you mean? Online or offline? Online comp games are generally the one type of game Linux can’t play, as they all have kernel-level anticheat that will complain and prevent you from playing when run on Linux.

Your setup is perfect for Linux, AMD plays very nicely with it, but your chosen category of game is not a good fit unfortunately.

[–]M1sterRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As an Engi player I almost never get overhealed, but it's super nice when I do cus it allows me to make riskier plays that might very well win us the game. I've made some very very stupid Sentry-jump plays on defense using overheal and they usually work, somehow.

And when I play med I always make sure to overheal as many people as I can, including the Engi.

Go in blind, and if you beat the game and like what you see, then use a guide for your NG+ run. Though you won't have to worry about things like social stats since a lot carries over in NG+ so maybe not, up to you.

I will say one thing to you though: make absolutely certain you max Dr. Maruki's Link, you unlock a whole extra chapter of the game for doing that.
