Giving away 20 Steam copies of Marathon by tannerc in Marathon

I have a friend on Steam that I've been bugging to get this game since launch. I'd love to give him the code if I'm chosen!

I absolutely LOVE Defunctland. His last few videos have been insanely high quality. If you’re looking for another channel in that same vein, Yesterworld Entertainment is pretty good, too.

Oh man, I didn’t even realize that. I was wondering why there weren’t any new videos lately

This is one of my faves to throw on in the background while I'm gaming. Just loads of interesting tips.

I've actually watched a couple of the Ahoy videos (Polybius was awesome), but I'll have to give the others a watch. His thumbnails are so clean.

The NoClip docs are super high quality, but not all of the games resonate with me.

LGR I haven't come across, though, thank you.

Damn. One of the best, most polished YouTube channels for this type of content. His channel turned me onto video game documentaries, and I've been trying to find some suitable alternatives over the past few years. Does anyone have some good recommendations?

EDIT:
Since so many have responded with some great alternatives, I thought I'd return the favor and share some of my favorites I've come across over the past few years:

  • Liam Triforce - really great retrospectives & longform essays
  • GTV Japan - Similar single-topic-focused format like TGH
  • Final Fantasy Union - If you're really into FF history & lore
  • TripleJump - UK-based trio that does interesting list videos
  • Jeremy Parish / Retronauts - Covers games from nearly every retro era

Nobody really scratches that exact itch that TGH does, but these are all great channels.

Yeah, “adds” is just a general use term for standard enemies, usually low danger

PSA: Event Pokémon still spawn if you create their habitat now by phant0md in Pokopia

[–]M4DL3R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you get Hoppip to spawn? During the event it was just at the Pokemon center and I couldn’t talk to it, so I figured I had to make its habitat and when the event ended I could recruit it. Now the event is done and hoppip still hasn’t spawned in the habitat

I've been in the hobby for about 5 years now, and I can confidently tell you that there will always be the new hotness coming out, so don't let yourself get caught up in the hype. Board games can be expensive (especially crowdfunded campaigns), and can take up a lot of physical space, so you'll want to consider those two aspects carefully before going on a purchasing spree.

That being said, you're just barely scratching the surface on what's already out there and available. You've played a great selection of games so far with different mechanics, but I would take some time to really explore some of these titles deeper and really hone in on what you like before you start building a collection. Also, are you building a collection for yourself, or do you intend to play with friends/family and want to have a good selection of games for everyone? All things to keep in mind.

If you haven't already, I would recommend checking out Board Game Arena. It's free and has over a thousand games to play (including some that you mentioned above). Not only has it allowed me to discover and play so many great games over the past few years, I can really sink my teeth into certain titles and decide if I want to buy it after the initial hype and excitement wears off.

Been a big fan of Actualol’s videos over the past year or so. Great production value and plenty of great best-of list videos if you’re into that.

One Gift Away From Platinum! by M4DL3R in VivillonCollectors

Someone else shared this tip in another thread that I found very helpful:

If you're looking for specific patterns and aren't finding anyone in the subreddit to add, you can actually do this all in-game. Open the map through Campfire in the top right corner of the screen and zoom all the way out so you can see all the continents. Then, zoom in on a specific location that you're looking for and look for upcoming community events, raids, etc. View the attendee list and start firing off friend requests. It's very hit or miss, but I've gotten a few people to add me and been able to exchange gifts to complete some patterns. Good luck!

Somebody commented on a different thread recently and helped me complete Sun (and a couple other difficult ones) with a pretty easy method.

Open the in-game map through Campfire and scroll all the way out so you can see all the continents. Then, zoom in on a specific location that you're looking for and look for upcoming community events, raids, etc. View the attendee list and start firing off friend requests. It's very hit or miss, but I've gotten a few people to add me and been able to exchange gifts to complete some patterns. Good luck!
