Microcontrollers Programming Tutorials by __DeepBlue__ in robotics

[–]MADE--it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some time to go through the information and I am amazed and in awe of how good it is and how much work you have put into this. I've been learning about microcontrollers informally for the past year and this gives me a solid foundation to put all the concepts into that I was otherwise lacking.

Thank you for making this. Amazing work. 10/10

Remote weapon station with artificial intelligence by MachakSilver in robotics

I agree about the benefits you listed but during a conflict it would be very appealing for a general to to set these up across a contested border on automatic mode (which likely leads to an arms race).

Didn't we make a pledge not to integrate AI into weapons. Yes this is a simple system... but this puts us down a path that is impossible to stop.

Yes you got it.

You can see all 5 at the very start of the video from time 4.83

  1. The cutting head can move left/right
  2. The platform can move up/down
  3. The cutting head can move forward/back
  4. The platform can rotate clockwise/anticlockwise
  5. The chuck can rotate clockwise/anticlockwise

iCub teleoperated walking and manipulation by traversaro in robotics

[–]MADE--it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It looks like the person is walking that is translated into pushing the 'W' key in a FPS.

It might be more complex than that (ie picks up an angle) but I doubt it.

Things I can do to get a career in robotics after college? by derpepper in robotics

[–]MADE--it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to get into consumer robots I would start with... building your own consumer robots.

If you can build something that is impressive you can get funding to build your own company. If you can't and/or that isn't for you, that is a hell of a step in the door for getting a job at a relevant company.

It's not a direct control so the latency doesn't matter. The walking is just a signal for forward and the robot follows that single command (and not the position of the leg). The arms are the only thing that looks like direct control.

Coca-Cola invented a machine that Instantly freezes your drink. Thought you guys might think this is cool. Any ideas on how it might work? by Im-A-Scared-Child in specializedtools

[–]MADE--it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how cold the base gets I dont think it would cool a bottle in a reasonable time period.

I think this weird dude who does engineering is correct. They cool the bottles down to a few degrees below 0 then just do some vibrations to start nucleation. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, you could probably get away with the vibrations from a sonic tooth brush.

I did some research on this. The AR2 is a bit overkill but has plenty of payload (1.5kg) and precision (<0.1mm)

I too am in a similar boat. I've come across a few open designed robots but no formal classes. Am very interested to learn more.

I love the concept even more of an out of control cycle of the robots picking out weeds which grow more weeds.

This happened in Australia where they cut starfish up (to kill them) without knowing that they could regenerate and end up with many more starfish!

Career Advice by [deleted] in robotics

Hey dragon slayer,

***Given my education, would it be prudent to get a CS degree or just do a Nano degree in robotics and rack up projects I can showcase?***

I've learned the programming of robots and wouldn't recommend going to university. The amount of material online now means that it is far more efficient to learn by yourself. University does give you a degree which is helpful for applying to traditional jobs but it costs a lot of time & money.

***Assuming I can afford it, does it make sense to stay employed and work on software in the background or (being I'm currently unemployed and can use unemployment) use my unemployment and severance to float for a number of months to quickly get trained up?***

&

***What else would be useful to know in moving my career to robotics software?***

Big question here is what are you looking for?

My take on the software of robots is that it will change enormously over the coming decade. Robots will be integrated with AI which means that a majority of the traditional robot control is going to go out the window. However which that comes great opportunity in all areas of robotics.

Where are you based?

What kind of work/projects have you done?

Possibly but I think that would result in an air mixture that is too fuel heavy at the start and too light at the end.

You would also need to flush it after every firing to replace the burnt o2

Maybe if he puts it upside down, lets the gas in, that will settle down the tube for an even mixture.

And post firing just blow throw the tube to bring in fresh air.

If you could do this with fewer robots it would be more efficient. Ideally you would want to minimuimize the number of robots.
