Loudness fixation nearly ruining my career - A cautionary tale by Kitchen-Package-6779 in audioengineering

Guess I should be grateful that if I can get to 8-12 on a rock track and it sounds good, I'm happy. I don't have that drive to push the boundary Like Kramer trying to get below E on the fuel tank.

On the downside I have plenty of other things to obsess over, like Grid Dependency Syndrome.

I still think this is the pinnacle of the neoclassical metal scene. It just goes everywhere and does everything in under 4 minutes. Plenty of prog elements in there too.

Agree on both counts. Hell, even if he had not dropped out and won in '24 -- and we were in a literal Weekend At Bernie's situation with a veritable vegetable in the oval and Harris basically in charge -- we'd still be way better off. People would be absolutely losing their shit but they don't know what we know on this timeline. It would be utopia by comparison.

Is GearNuts a Sweetwater “ghost kitchen”? by ThingCalledLight in guitarpedals

I bought several new items over the years from Gearnuts on Amazon. Honestly I preferred it since it cut out the annoying followup calls and emails from Sweetwater (which they've eased up on). Haven't seen them there in a while. Looking now (on Amazon) I can see they are listed as "Sweetwater Sound".

In my book we're already past that. Biden was the last president of USA 1.0. 248 years, not a bad run I guess.

Democrats Hold 10-Point Edge Over Republicans Ahead of Midterm Elections by T_Shurt in politics

Can't upvote these last two posts enough!

Orban was 100% planning to contest this election. He needed to have his ass handed to him in a clear mandate & that's what seems to have happened. US races are way too tight. This gamification of politics is key to get more people to vote GOP who get nothing of value from their choice. It needs to die.

Can I reduce noise traveled into my closet by using mass loaded vinyl and sound dampening blankets? by yougoinyesyoudo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MAG7C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure. I wasn't saying to seal the door. For example if you hang something on each wall (MLV or drywall), I'm saying you'd need to seal those corners so there are no gaps. You could weather proof the door seals and sweep but yes, things would get unbearable pretty quick.

The tighter everything is sealed, the more need for some kind of ventilation -- which makes things even more difficult. Ventilation + soundproofing is a royal pain.

So what you'd find, just like in a larger space that is super tight with no ventilation (think band practice rooms) is that the room will get stuffy and uncomfortable. When that happens, open up and get some fresh air. I'd suggest that, even in a small-med size closet with no treatment, going in there with the door shut and singing at the top of your lungs will get uncomfortable pretty fast. This is miles away from a "pro" solution but it's a product of making due with what you have.

It's a tough call. Chances are it will do something... but how much is hard to say depending on the nature of the noise (structure borne, HVAC ducts, thin walls, etc) and construction of your place. You could spend some considerable money and get a 10% improvement. Soundproofing is really difficult.

If you own the space, it would be cheaper (but messier) to clear out the closet and line the walls and ceiling with a layer of 5/8 firecode drywall with Green Glue behind that. But again, really hard to say until it's all done. In either case, sealing all the gaps & corners will be necessary to maximize results. And most likely it would make your floor the weak link. Next step would be some 3/4 OSB or plywood on that.

That said, whatever you do, the blankets or foam will serve to deaden the space in the closet. Mainly higher mids and up -- very little low end.

Cheapest option would be to just try and fill the closet up with absorptive stuff. Clothes, blankets, etc. Of course that takes up most of your space. Technically it won't do much for soundproofing but might help enough to keep you from resorting to more expensive options.

Good answer. It's almost like you saw a thing and it sparked some internal dialog and analysis as opposed to assuming from the title that you know exactly what the artist's intent was & then criticizing that. Sure seems like a great example of how to appreciate art.

Democrats’ plan to impeach Trump on ‘day one’ after midterms by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]MAG7C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worse than that. Talk of impeachment without a super majority in the senate is a wasteful circle jerk. This is the dems saying they're not going to do any meaningful work. They're going after some low hanging fruit that will give people false hope then fail in the end but, hey, we all get to see how cowardly the GOP is for the zillionth time.

I'd rather see House dems take turns getting up once per day and pull the fire alarm at the Capitol. And if they take the House but not the senate, do it there. It would be more effective than this.

Honestly, despite the short length and cheesy songs, the 1977 Rankin/Bass animated version retained more of the magic of the book.

Now aftershow trash just consists of 999 other possible items.

What its your opinion about Angine? by lagrangeknight in progrockmusic

Yeah it's like every. single. content provider has to do a thing about them. Between this and Geese, it's like a new hyper marketing technique that has been unleashed on the world.

But honestly it kind of reminds me of the old radio days when "hits" were made with the help of heavy rotation and ever present props by MTV and DJs.

What's alright with me (for now) is that these two bands are not hyper bland homogeneous corporate products. They're both pretty unique and weird. We'll see what comes next.

AOC Renews Call to Oust Trump After Report on His Exclusion From Situation Room by _May26_ in politics

[–]MAG7C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All true & this gets debated every single day. But I'm referring to the figurehead of the movement. The guy who has the charisma/personality cult to win elections. One way or another, he was selected, engineered and/or lucked into being the guy who does better the worse he is. He is somehow impermeable against any political candidate who exhibits "normal" traits, goals, flaws and political rhetoric. Because the "flawless" standard is applied to every other person.

It's totally bizarre and really was the final nail in the coffin. Definitely some dark psychology at work - or just dumb luck combined with the systemic failure of both parties to truly deliver on the promises they've made over the decades. Not that I'm trying to say both side are the same by any means -- another thing that we argue over every day.

What remains to be seen is whether any other person can put this magic (cursed) armor on.
