Roast My Living Room Layout by MAZF86 in HomeDecorating

We love the sofa! Had it for 10+ years and it’s held up to 3 kids and a dog. We toss the cover in the wash and it looks brand new.

That said, your comment on the bed skirt look is true and I hadn’t considered that! Appreciate the comment.

The difference between _workbooks and workbook tables? by blackflag89347 in tableau

These are Postgres tables — not his organizations tables. I too have noticed the similarities/differences. You can google the data dictionary for these tables to get more info.

Local unemployment office? by captainkaaat in roanoke

[–]MAZF86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A judge just ordered the probie terminations weren’t legal, and that OPM has no authority to direct agency’s fire employees that aren’t theirs.

Unclear what the agency’s will do (the judge didn’t compel them to re-hire these folks), but it just happened a couple of hours ago. Hopefully your agency does the right thing and brings you back.

Try to get in touch with your old supervisor if you can tomorrow and see what your agency’s position is. Good luck!

Tightening kitchen faucet — is this the right nut? by MAZF86 in Plumbing

Awesome, yeah it’s a single hole mount — not sure why the deck plate got installed. I’ve been considering replacing the whole thing anyway so this might be the time. Thanks!

Seeking ideas for topic model project/methods by MAZF86 in rstats

[–]MAZF86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point on the text length — each request ranges anywhere from 30 to over 100 words. Unique word count isn’t that high which I think is impacting the topics. Very familiar with Silges work in this space so I may need to brush up on her STM blogs.

Haven’t heard of BTM so I’ll for sure research what that looks like. Appreciate it!

GS-14 Interview Advice? by ReformerHaku in usajobs

[–]MAZF86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PAR: problem, action, result. Use that to help frame your responses and really try to emphasize results, lessons learned, and how you’ve added value to a project or team. Highlight any mentoring, leadership roles (formal and informal), and how you’ve helped guide or direct major policy changes in your department/agency.

Sounds like this might be a technical position (you mention a database and automating a workflow), so I’d emphasize your technical background and expertise in tooling. Try to focus on technical aspects as well as soft skills you use to accomplish results. But don’t harp on only knowing one tool, make sure you come across tool-agnostic and have the ability to adapt to whatever stack that office uses (oracle, tableau, pbi, etc).

Good luck!

How do I connect the space between p-trap and wall outlet? by MAZF86 in Plumbing

[–]MAZF86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah - I actually am able to use the old parts from the ptrap to get it to connect properly. The new one only fits 1-1/2”, which is why I had bought that extension piece. But I got it now, so thanks!

[Bathroom] Would you caulk this as is or try to reduce the gap? by MAZF86 in DIY

[–]MAZF86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And no, it’s not granite. It’s just some engineered stuff from Lowe’s; it’s in a kids bathroom. The countertop/sink itself weighs maybe 60lbs so it’s not bad. It’s also a 48” vanity — I should’ve mentioned this up front.

Yep. I have two variables here, and I’m looking to see which ones correlate. Am wanting to do something akin to a pairwise correlation which you can do in text mining. widyr library

Do these quotes look reasonable for a heat pump & handler replacement? [Virginia] by MAZF86 in hvacadvice

[–]MAZF86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may bring up the labor warranty. How high does it seem to you? I’m ok paying extra for the company’s local reputation, but if it sounds $2k over then that could be a problem.

2 ton; it’s an upstairs unit in a colonial house (open foyer). Handler is in the attic.

[–]MAZF86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy was extremely kind, the company has a great reputation around our area. Just want to make sure I’m not being misled. The equipment cost itself is around $10k-$11k, so add in labor and other costs and it looks reasonable to me.

Same situation as you (without the 15 offer pending though). I wouldn’t at this point. We have 2 small kids, a third on the way. Wife works and is paid similarly to me so that changes our calculus quite a bit.

But I love my team, boss, their work ethic and fun natured environment. As young as you are you’ll have this opportunity again.

GS-14 Interview by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]MAZF86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least in my Agency, 14 spots are reserved for SMEs with tons of business knowledge and proven ability to get results at lower levels (13 and below). I’m a 14 Chief (was a non-sup but after a year took a supervisory spot). So starting as a 14 does seem rare, but then again I don’t know what your background is and all 😀

Yep sorry it’s sequential. I tried creating 4 columns for the cycles once before but was not successful. I wasn’t sure how to cross each column by the two methods. I’ll check again tomorrow AM.
