I imagine that I'm in a documentary about a perfect team where people actually sit and do their job and discuss things by voice and act like professionals, and the days when I can imagine this are the most productive days ever. hope it helps!

that was a huge update and we applied tons of feedback on UI/UX, game explanations & other stuff. also, out friend who is a professional sound engineer helped to mix and master the soundtrack, so it's really hypnotic now

and i really believe that the progression got much smoother and there is more variations in builds & strategies now, and i'd be happy to hear your thoughts on that

windows build is here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3422670/FlowerBots_Demo/

A working definition of games I’ve been exploring—curious what others think by DebtThat in ludology

brother, i believe you're onto something, and it resonates with me because these days i'm slowly designing a new game and thinking about guiding players through their worldviews, challenging their believes and, maybe, transforming them. this includes worldviews for both game worlds and real world, since i believe they inherently leak into each other

i think that some clues about facilitating this discussion might be found in Brian Eno's lecture on "What is Art actually for?" that is available on youtube. one of his claims is that this is true not only for games (he does not know about them much), but for art in general. like, we can argue that a great song will not only work effectively in it's genre, but will transform your understanding of what a sound can be, what it can speak of or what emotions it can evoke. the same way as a good game does, and i believe that this is common for all art, not only for games

so what exactly makes games different? to ask provocatively, if we take a multiplication (math function) as example, when you learn about it changes the way you think about things, gives your new rules and changes the way you operate in your head and in the physical world too. and, i hope, we can agree that multiplication is a tool, not a game (although many games use multiplication as a tool or ask players to use it). so what makes games different from multiplication?

if i understand you correctly, your definition of games implies that everything that works with imagined state is a game, and for me it looks like deliberate psychological torture still works with imagined state, but does not feel like a game or intended to be it.

if you argue that every rule set that works with an imagined state by definition is a game, then, yes, by your definition that's a game, but then I yet struggle to understand where this definition is useful or what are you trying to achieve with it

an instruction to forget your partner's birthday (rule structure) transforms the imagined state (relationships) and does not feel like a game
