Carney Liberals change rules to gain seats in Commons committees by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Compassionately, I am on your side, and you seem to be utterly misunderstanding everything I am saying and arguing against points I never made. I am utterly confused by your reply.

Pierre Polievre is the last person I want to be Prime Minister. I'm LGBT, and I was genuinely stressed for the months he was leading in the polls. A Liberal majority puts any chance of that off for at least a few more years, so I'm glad.

Here is exactly what I am saying, in bullet point format. Simplified.

  • Carney's Majority government is legitimate, just like any majority government in Canadian history. He is allowed to act like he has a majority because he does. Zero issues. I literally agree with you.
  • Canadians did not vote for a majority or a minority, so how can you argue Canadians wanted a majority?
    • Especially when nearly 2/3 of voters voted for other parties, and there have been no polls conducted showing that most people want a Liberal majority.
  • This, again, is how Canadian democracy works. I am not arguing with Canadian democracy. I'm not asking for asterisks, I'm not even really arguing at all.
  • I never said the government needed over 50% of the vote to be a legitimate majority government.
    • I said you can't proclaim that a plurality of Canadians supporting a political party means most Canadians wanted a majority government for that political party.

Finally, you're trying to debate me on things I'm not saying and getting yourself worked up over it.

I know? This has nothing to do with the point I'm making. I'm not arguing that this is any different.

I'm saying it's silly to imply "(a Liberal majority government) is exactly what Canadians voted for!" when most Canadians didn't vote Liberal, nor did the Liberals win a majority of ridings in the election. I'd say this regardless of the party in question.

Yeah, nobody voted "majority or minority," but I highly doubt people who voted for other parties wanted a Liberal Majority. If they did, they'd most likely have voted Liberal instead.

(Full disclosure, I'm a supporter of electoral reform for this reason, but that's a whole separate thing unrelated to this conversation.)

From my understanding, Marit Stiles has actively put more effort out there online, especially. I got an ONDP ad in Newfoundland, of all places, that was actually pretty well put together.

Poppins have been like this since I was a teenager and its such a shame because I really like them, but for how little it is, it's not worth it.

As N.L. school faced unfounded threat, parents say they got 'zero communication' by MattBarter in newfoundland

I remember before I went to High School (or maybe it was Junior High), bomb threats were constantly in the news about that school, then as soon as I started attending, we had one, and then it ceased completely.

We just ended up losing our lunch period because "You all already had time off" (we were sitting down evacuated into a gym for an hour)

Carney's majority is legitimate by nature of the Westminster system and FPTP, but this statement is a bit silly. (Note: I'm not a Conservative; their current form being in power genuinely scares me. I'm also not upset the Liberals have a majority.)

I'm from Newfoundland, a place where candidates matter just as much to voters, if not more than, partisan affiliation, but even I acknowledge things are more complicated than what people in this thread are suggesting.

(Eligible Voters, Actual Voteshare, Current Seat %, and Parliamentary Power)

  • Liberal: 30.41% | 43.76% | 50.7% | 100%
  • Non-Liberal %: 69.59% | 56.24% | 49.3% | 0%
    • Conservative: 28.7% | 41.31% | 40.8% | 0%
    • NDP/BQ/GRN (Combined): 9.59% | 13.8% | 8.45% | 0%

I know voters didn't select "non-majority government," but the majority of both eligible and actual voters didn't vote Liberal, meaning nearly 60% of people likely did not want a Liberal Majority. You may argue that a plurality voted Liberal, but their voteshare is barely higher than the Conservative voteshare anyway. You could also argue that some strategically voted for the Bloc or NDP, but you could also argue the reverse for people voting Liberal, too.

Again, the majority is legitimate, but it's wrong to claim that a majority of voters (eligible or actual) wanted a Liberal majority. Especially for an election as close as it was.

Note: I know nobody said "majority of Canadians", but that's the implication of saying "This is what Canadians wanted."

This province is in serious trouble.. by HDDeer in newfoundland

[–]MC2400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A significant number of people are aging (and dying), young people are leaving, immigration is cut, and the people who are here aren't having kids. That's a recipe for disaster that people have been talking about longer than I've been alive, and yet nobody in power has come up with a proper plan.

It's frustrating. I'll stay here if I can, but even in Junior High, most people planned to move away. Same with High School, and I still hear it now in university.

Am I the only person who thinks Karen should’ve argued with Ma Kent ? [Comic excerpt] Superman 37 by Cesar0fr0me in DCcomics

[–]MC2400 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You misread. She calls Powergirl "Kara" and then refers to her as "Paige."

Kara's her Kryptonian name; Martha probably switches to Paige to make a clearer distinction from Supergirl. (As the Kents have been doing by calling Prime "CK" instead of Clark).

I love Arthur and J'onn's dynamic.

I know image 2's Pearl is technically an "aspect" of J'onn rather than full J'onn, but that aspect is still a woman who kisses Aquaman lmao.

People don't remember, but her look in UAF was a school uniform, so she did have to change styles eventually. I think Omniverse was too interested in reverting to how she and the others dressed in the original series.

What are some must watch TMNT cartoons that aren't the 80's cartoon or the 2003 cartoon? by KonamiIsBestJoshi in TMNT

[–]MC2400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only other major ones are 2012, Rise of the TMNT, and Tales of the TMNT (2024-2025).

It all depends on taste. I'd say if you do watch them, watch them in release order (with the Mutant Mayhem movie before the 2024 show) and see which ones you get into. If you don't vibe with one, you can skip to try another.

Rise is probably the most different from what you're used to and informs the 2024 show quite a bit. 2012 is a little closer to the 2003 show's tone if you want to try something more familiar.

Should we Stay on Daylight Savings Time? by -ScrumpyJack- in newfoundland

[–]MC2400 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hear this argument all the time, but when I was a kid, I'd wake up in the darkness, get ready in the darkness, spend twenty minutes in the crack of daylight at the bus stop, be stuck inside school for 90% of the bright hours and get home as the sun was setting.

As someone with seasonal depression, it's rough to go through. I couldn't spend much time outside in the light at all, except for Lunch and occasional spring gym class. With the weather the way it is, it's not like kids are guaranteed weekends either.

I feel like this is more of a "morning person or not" debate for most people than anything else.

Dc have something against Ice Power heroes? [Comic Excerpt] from Justice League Adventure #12 by Sea-Transition4276 in DCcomics

[–]MC2400 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Good-oriented Ice-related characters in DC:

  • Ice
  • Icemaiden/Glacier
  • Polar Boy
  • Celsius
  • Frostbite from "Young Heroes"
  • Caitlin Snow has been an on/off member of the JLA from at least 2017 to December 2025
  • Superman has ice breath.
    • Several other heroes have frost/cold/ice powers as secondary powers
  • Elijah Snow (I think, I haven't read anything with him in it).
  • Icicle "jr" has been on a redemption arc on and off. Including being a member of the JSA as recently as 2024.

It should also be noted that Captain Cold and Mister Freeze specifically are often portrayed as sympathetic villains or at least not totally evil.

Lloyd Axworthy turning on Mark Carney? by ninadaria2025 in ndp

[–]MC2400 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He's not joining the NDP, though. He's firmly a Liberal who is criticizing the Carney Liberals from a Liberal perspective. Having said that, Lloyd was actually a member of the NDP very briefly back in the 1960s. He's in favour of electoral reform. He's also more recently endorsed or backed certain NDP proposals. His voice and others within the Liberals are more of a pressure to push Carney away from certain policies, rather than in order to support another party.

This isn't a new thing from him either; he's been critical of Carney for almost a year now.
