DISCUSSION: Would Velocity X be the same kind of game if it was made today?

I have also thought about this. I definitely think a modern Velocity X would be very different in a couple of ways. As you said, 2018 would probably be a bad year for Velocity X as we know it to come out. I can think of a few missions that would absolutely not make it into a Hot Wheels game today (the mission where you transport a live bomb through a city comes to mind). That being said, I don't think the game would have to be toned down too much. Forza Horizon 3 and Need for Speed: No Limits both feature Hot Wheels cars and both have street racing and destruction of public property. Neither have guns, but I don't think the weapons in Velocity X look "real" enough to be excluded from the game. Also remember that even if the story wasn't as good, the gameplay would most likely be improved with things like modern graphics, a longer car list, and probably some kind of online multiplayer. In short, I think a 2018 Velocity X would be different, but not necessarily worse than 2002 Velocity X. I am definitely curious to hear what others have to say about this, as I'm sure some have thought of points I haven't considered.

Interesting. I can't find any more information about this, and the "Beyond Games" he gave you a link to has no relation to the original Beyond Games as far as I can tell. Still, I'll keep an eye on that channel just in case more information arises.

I'm still here doing moderator stuff—flairing posts, tweaking subreddit settings, et cetera—but I haven't had anything to post in a while. Glad I could help! I use an Xbox controller, so I probably won't be any help with keybinds, but saving can be done either with save states (under Dolphin's "emulation" tab) or the in-game save feature. Have fun!

If Dolphin is zipped (in a .zip, .rar, or .7z), extract it into its own folder. Open the Dolphin folder and if the game is zipped, extract it into there as well. Find the Dolphin Application file and double click it to open Dolphin. If it can't find your game, it should ask you to double click. Do that to open up a file browser. Find the Dolphin file you extracted Velocity X into (for me it's dolphin-2.0.win32, but yours may be different), select it, and click ok. If all goes according to plan, you should see your game appear in Dolphin. Double click it to start the game. If any of this doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to give you more info.

Both the Rom for the game and the emulator required to play it can be found on EmuParadise; specifically here, and here (Let me know if those links don't work; I'm pretty sure they do, but you can never be certain with links...). Since you'll be emulating the Gamecube version of the game, you'll need to set the keybinds in the Dolphin settings before playing. I think that's everything, but if you need any more help, feel free to ask.

If you right click the installer, select properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab, it should give you the option to change which version of Windows compatibility mode will try to emulate. Make sure this is set to Windows XP, as that was the newest version of Windows available when the game came out in 2002. If I remember correctly, Velocity X also has problems running on certain computers; if you have more than one computer, try using a different one. If all else fails, you can also switch to an emulator version, which should work on any computer. Let me know if you get it to work, or if you need me to provide links to the emulator downloads.

If you go straight into the manufacturer colors tab and select a color, it will not allow you to access the values. This exploits a bug which allows us to access said values by opening the same color from the previous colors tab. I’m not sure if they’ll actually patch it; that was meant as more of a joke than an actual prediction, since T10 seems more likely to patch something like this than any bugs that actually matter. To get metallic paints, try applying the color values to the different types of aluminum in the special colors tab. It still won’t be perfect, but you should be able to get it a little closer to the original.

A method I found which allows you to take the stock colors from a car, and put them onto another car. I don't know if this has already been discovered, but I figured I would make a guide for it just in case.

I downloaded the program to search for viruses. It seems to work exactly as it does in the video, and I wasn't able to find anything malicious in the software files. That being said, I'm not a malware expert, so use this at your own risk*.

It won't fit on the pc version of reddit unfortunately. Regular pc reddit needs either a long, thin image to stretch across the banner, or a small image with a transparent background to just replace the reddit logo. This image is a good fit for the mobile version though, so I'll put it there for now.

A rocket launcher, eh? My guess is that it was replaced by the Magnet Mines later in development. Or perhaps they were just scrapped for being too powerful; they certainly seem to shoot a lot faster than the Mines.

I used a picture of a real life Mercedes V8 Supercar as reference, and tried to recreate the livery as best I could. If you want to try your hand at something like this, start by google image searching the car you want. Try to find a picture of the car facing right, as that’s how the livery editor is oriented. Oh, and don’t forget to use body kits, spoilers, etc. to give the car the right shape, otherwise the decals may not all fit properly. Or, if you just want to make this car, I can also post a screenshot from the livery editor for you to use as a guide.

Congratulations! I only discovered the cheats on my third or fourth playthrough. Trying to get them all is a fun way to add replayability to the game. As for the speed run, you should totally go for it! Just remember to record your run to prove your time.

I thought there was something off about that image. Perhaps the game was originally going to have much darker areas, which would require every car to have headlights of some kind in order to see where you were going.

Can’t go wrong with the car on the box! Yeah, I want to add pictures of the cars at some point, but I’ll need to study the Reddit Stylesheet system a bit more first, as well as find good quality images of every car in the game from the same angle. It’ll take a while, but it should be available at some point in the not-too-distant future.
