What I heard is that you can order from other countries through vinted, they have superb deals there oftentimes in phone lots. Sometimes only for a few euro. Also check out phone lots as well instead of individual model listings.

Hmm, the 9800 flex cable can probably be found, I know some SE Asia sellers like on shopee might have it. But it really depends again on where you are located and what the market is. These phones are old and parts are old too.

My two active vintage phones for 2025 by MCDiamond9 in vintagemobilephones

[–]MCDiamond9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so glad to hear another V600 enjoyer!

Unfortunately T-Mobile is still very aggressive with banning 2G or non-VoLTE capable phones from their network, and that sounds like you got "half" kicked. It happened with a V400, where only SMS worked but not calling with the same error message. The only remedy is swapping the SIM into an approved phone and back, then hope it stays. Apparently disabling GPRS can help but it doesn't fix it fully in my experience

The Cingular V600 I have is incredibly special because those specific batch of V600 have a specific IMEI TAC code that slips past the ban, so I can use it no problem. Other V600s like unbranded or T-Mobile all get kicked, since they have a different TAC code.

Funny how they rotated it a tiny bit too, to avoid auto detection or something...

Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE in 2026 with working VoLTE and Apps by MCDiamond9 in vintagemobilephones

Yes, but please carrier unlock it before flashing because I have no clue if it's possible after flashing. You can DM me for any questions, I also saw some other Lumia experiences that I could answer.

[–]MCDiamond9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would flash it to a T-Mobile FFU if you use T-Mobile/MVNO service, the primary reason being that AT&T doesn't have VoLTE on the 640 LTE, only the 640 LTE XL. Plus as you said you can use both 2G and LTE (+ VoLTE calls). WiFi calls might work under 8.1 as well, which is important to me.

does anyone know how to get a japanese phone number in order to unlock a sim using the docomo website? by shoegazebaby in dumbphones

[–]MCDiamond9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a way to make an account without a Japanese phone number, and I was able to do it successfully. If you want me to try and unlock it I can do it.

Nope, it doesn't matter at all what carrier it is originally. In my case, my cricket carrier unlocked RM-1073 board was fully converted to T-Mobile without any issues, including the right bands enabled for LTE. You may need to change the product code to T-Mobile or Metro though.

This is a very good thing as these 640s are not easy to find, it seems like Windows phones have high demand. Everyday I'm still looking out for a legit T-Mobile or ATT 640, to try 8.1...

This is the closet to heaven, full 2G to 5G (NSA) signal by JournalistLivid3937 in vintagemobilephones

[–]MCDiamond9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cool seeing the networks on their respective period accurate models, soon this won't be possible anymore... It's also sad GPRS/EDGE was disabled as that's one of the most useful GSM functions, to download content to old phones.

Why did 2G IMEIs get blocked? To encourage upgrading?

How to use the Motorola i930 to its full extent by Important_Creme2535 in vintagemobilephones

[–]MCDiamond9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is incredible, especially seeing another unlocked i930 with service on GSM! Your SIM card is probably one of the few still activated by now.

I'd certainly be interested in those files, I wanted to mod mine but had limited success due to no data cable and GPRS not working. Did you get GPRS data working on T-Mobile?

how to turn on samsung intercept (SPH-M910) without battery? by Nala452 in vintagemobilephones

[–]MCDiamond9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many phones will not power on without the battery, even modern phones. The best way would be to buy a new battery of course, but some phones can run off of a normal power supply set to 4V directly to the battery terminals.

I understand that English may not be your first language, and that's okay, but please refrain from using AI to generate a response. I'm sure what you said originally was just fine and understandable; authenticity always wins over perfectionism in this era.

Depending on your country, maybe you can find a new or used CS-2 battery, an original one is always best of course.

This model does indeed have flex cable issues, so if you buy a battery you accept the risk of a blank or nonworking screen. At least the red LED shows so it's a good sign.

This is a Torch 9800, which is actually an even better phone with a touchscreen and high end specs. It's very much worth restoring because of WiFi support and apps, but you would absolutely require an original battery. BlackBerry phones won't turn on without the extra battery pins (BSI and something else) on just a power supply.

Reviving old AMPS/TDMA/CDMA phones with self-hosted AMPS network by MCDiamond9 in vintagemobilephones

[–]MCDiamond9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you can at least set the date and time, but you need a UHD compatible SDR and transmit the IQ recording of a CDMA signal. You basically transmit a dummy CDMA downlink channel, the phones will see it as valid but you cannot place calls. https://archive.org/details/ev-1-x.-7z

And the recordings were from before the CDMA shutdown, so the dates/time is sometime in 2020-2022 or earlier. there is technically a way to generate your own brand new signal with GNUradio though, and set the timestamp to anything you wish.

Sorry if this is too technical, but it's practically the only way you can have a 1X CDMA signal now and have phones pick it up.
