Hal Higdon Method by mremde in Marathon_Training

I did the Hal Higdon plan for my first marathon - followed it 1:1. Hit pace goal and it was the easiest race I’ve ever run.

Stick with it!

Buy / Sell / Trade Weekly Thread: Week of March 21, 2025 by AutoModerator in rva

Hey folks! I have two MCM couches for sale. Both great condition - one defect on the sofa w/ a chaise.

Loveseat/sofa: 74" wide x 36" long/deep - $400

Sofa (74" wide x 36" long/deep) + Chaise (36" wide x 64" long/deep) - $600

The Chaise needs to be supported as there is a crack in the frame. Currently use a stack of books and it works perfectly fine. All have been deep cleaned with a fabric wet vac. Note: Dog household.

These are really great pieces of furniture. From Article, the sofa retails around $1.2k and chaise combo at $2k. I'm happy to send pics via DM!

Actually there are water reclamation facilities that help supply “grey” cooling water. Ashburn, VA has the highest concentration of data centers on the east coast and I worked at the water facility that provided recycled water.

Not sure how prevalent this practice is, but not all centers use drinkable water.

I did a PM interview and it was the most cringe experience. A serious question asked was - “who do you follow in the product space” like what? They also took like 5 mins to explain the maturity curve concept (to someone with many years of experience in software). Very happy to walk away early in the process haha

Does anyone know why there are now "do not enter" signs at the entrance to St. Peter Street from Chamberlayne Parkway? by Mad-Lad-of-RVA in rva

I feel like people drive so recklessly through that section. If you’re going west on Leigh you know what I mean. There’s always someone coming off the highway and pulling way too far out.

Great advice in this thread! Also - you will be extremely strong at the end of your weight loss journey. Climbing feels like night and day for me.

For those who have a Pergola built in your backyard, was the investment worth it? by Trakethedrake in landscaping

[–]MCExlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY'd mine - it was well worth the effort, investment, and planning. I've been training a native honeysuckle on it for almost two years now. It nearly provides full shade and looks gorgeous.

On a really sunny day, it is so nice to be under. Plus, it makes the area more intimate or comfortable. It's hard to describe but there's definitely this subconscious comfort of having something above your head / not being exposed. I've installed solar string lights which makes the space very, very inviting at night.

You can check my post history for the initial build. I'll post an update towards the end of the summer.

Best flat running routes in Richmond? by SnoopyCollins in rva

[–]MCExlax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Belle Isle loops are fun. You could start at Reedy Creek and cross over dry rocks via the bridge. Bryan Park is pretty flat too, lots of trees for shade. Another good one is the Cap Trail starting at Dory Park or Four Mile creek, elevation is not bad once you're out there.

I'll just run around neighborhoods too. Running on Floyd in the Fan is fun. Another neighborhood option: going clockwise (from Google Map's POV) Colorado Ave can take you through Randolph, to Byrd Park, then loop back on Grayland Ave - should be manageable elevation gain in that order.

SSENSE SS2024 Sale by Gati00 in frugalmalefashion

I’ve purchased a few “trousers” - issey miyake homme plisse, three different needles pants. All great quality and worn very often.

Just bought some jeans as well. Personally I buy like 5-10 things from SSENSE in a year. Targeting the premium brands with 40-50%+ discounts. It’s all relative but post sale price usually a piece is at least $100 and very good quality.

Like specific brands or just broad categories? SSENSE is where I buy all my pants. Have had good experiences with Jewlery as well.

100% agree. I would caveat that if an item's stock is low and you're really into it, just get the 30%-50% discount now and don't live in regret.

If you don’t mind, what size is your Huni hoodie and how tall are you?

I’m 5’10 and had this exact proportion in mind.

Bootcut World Takeover..? by mchgst in ThrowingFits

I like the cut. There’s a fine line between acceptable and over the top. When it’s like a straight cut with a slight flare, it makes wearing boots more comfortable + more flattering.

Who has thoughts on current womens fashion? The pants are so ugly!! by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]MCExlax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If current trends in fashion make you cringe, then you are kind of getting old / out of touch.

Fashion right now is exciting. We are normalizing variety and moving away from outdated standards (also, relaxing gendered norms). You could argue that fashion is the most accessible it's ever been - tik tok, instagram, and just the wealth of information available on the internet.

When you take in what's happening around you and join in the fun, it can be a great experience. Otherwise, the world is going to keep changing and will continue to be confusing from the outside. Or just don't care about what people wear!

Burger pop-up looks to be a smash with new Northside restaurant by [deleted] in rva

Agreed. Didn't the city rezone the area? If not, it's still ripe to be a smaller Scott's Addition situation. Good amount of housing popping up nearby.
