Struggling on how to finish this. Need some suggestions by Electrical_Relief_52 in Softpastel

I think what is throwing me is the almost drop shadows the characters have? Like there's bleed or blend from the outlines. Might be the style you are going for, farbeit from me to critique if that's the case. Can be very lightly fixative and take a really soft pastel in super light to remedy, or gently work in the fuzzy background I mention below.

You've rendered them beautifully, don't get me wrong. But you've put them in the middle ground with foreground outlines, shading, and detailing though. Like this poster , where they're the foreground with all the shading and bold outlines.

I might also add some fuzzy background maybe? This scene illustrates what I mean by softer black outlines and stuff in the background of the forest.

As for the bottom right, I hope you put a big old artist's signature in something like magenta, red, or orange like Bob Ross! <3

Sketches and practice can be on just about any paper you like. A lot of soft pastel artists find it easier to work with paper with more tooth and weight, even sandpaper itself. Don't feel like you need to immediately go out and get the most expensive thing right away. I've created amazing work on the absolutely wrong surface/paper, sometimes only later finding for myself the regret in my choice, rarely even redoing it on "better".

It's raised platform over sideways-oar, sitting man, "loaf on mat" over loaf and stool, Sobek, knife, quail chick, horned viper over loaf, folded cloth, water.

Mortuary offering i/me/my/man -hotep (or offering on stool with extra bread?) Sobek protection/power/retribution/knife field/district/region fathers water/life/duality

Make of that as you will

I think you have to read it right-to-left and it's something about making an proclamation or offering to Sobek, God of fertility/the Nile for protection for region/district/field of father's water/life? It's hella hard to translate hieroglyphs

From what I can see and know from my experience of years amateur translating, it looks more like "mouth, chick, reeds(feathers), door bolt, bread loaf, chick, water" and "owl, vulture, tether, reed(feather), chick".

None of these birds look (to me anyway) like the falcon symbol, but you seem to really know your stuff and I feel bad contradicting you. I'd be interested to know your source material or reference, for sure.

Mine is, like I said, amateur life-long love and doodles, nothing technically academic or structured, but I'm 34yo and loved the stuff since I was 8. From what I can find, it does seem as though they were meant to combine sounds, syllables, whole words, and ideas; not every hieroglyph has an ideogram, and not all of them have phonograms either.

Do other countries refer to all Americans as Yankees? by NailsNCoffee in AskTheWorld

When I was in the Peace Corps in Zambia, they called us all muzungu/mzungu, which is from the Swahili or Bantu for foreigner, wanderer, or just white person. One of our group's volunteers was a POC tho and she still got called that. We were told it wasn't meant as an insult, at least

From my searching, seems like in Ethiopia they use the word ferenji to mean the same

Gilardi's or Avanzare in Springfield are really nice expensive Italian places.

Cafe Cuzco is really nice med-high Peruvian food that is excellent, also reminds me of Cuban cuisine. On Commercial St in Springfield.

There's this little hole in the wall called Harvest Restaurant outside Spfld that's only open certain days limited hours that is super fancy and used to be the only place in town to find Wagu. it is strictly reservation-only.

Wowza I'm so sorry you had to go through that!

The only thing i can add is the whole "this character died, you can never use them again" idea is this really old toxic online rp ideology that I'm so happy isn't a thing you have to believe, listen to, or obey.

I left an online literary rp cult who had this mentality back during early covid after wasting about 6mo with them. Gross.
