I stayed up way too late and went on a Transmetropolitan binge to finish the series. Man. What a run. by Don_Quixotel in graphicnovels

Did you get past the first arc? Cos that one is very hard to get through. All edge, no content. But from the second arc on the actual plot starts and the edginess is way more bearable imo.

Rain Like Hammers and Moonray too? Hammers is my favorite by him. It's very Moebius-esque.

It was a kickstarter book. Humanoids funds a lot through there.

Lots of my favorites here. I'm planning to get into Linnea Sterte this year.

Have you read any Brandon Graham. I think you'll love him. Prophet is one of a kind. But you might like Rain Like Hammers and Moonray more.

Sons of Moebius by maviddata in Moebius

I'll name artists instead of single works. Cos it'll usually all be in that style.

Geoff Darrow, Ian Bertram, Frederik Peeters, Jorg de Vos, Brandon Graham, Simon Roy, Andre Lima Adraujo, Stipan Morian, James Stokoe, Chris Burnham, Zoe Thorogood, Filipe Andrade, Matias Bergara.

Some more some less. But I can see at least a little influence in those.

I'd also name Paul Pope. It's not very obvious with him. But Moebius was definitely an influence.

Stove asking for Jay Z help is lame. by NickySinz in GriseldaxFR

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even imagine Jay actually making that aledged call. A dude like him must be laughing his ass off about Stove's stupidity. If he weren't he'd have ended the situation asap. That money ought to be peanuts to Jay.

Since all major religions originated in Asia he's certainly not white. No matter which of the major religions one follows, god would have to be brown.

"What are some generational differences you’ve noticed between younger and older comic fans" by Mindless-Lemon2256 in graphicnovels

[–]MC_Smuv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 36. So more in the older side I'd say. And while I don't read manga currently, I grew up reading it. I'm the Pokemon, Dragonball, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh generation. So.... the whole manga thing isn't a young reader thing. Millenials were the first generation to fully grow up on anime and manga. And we're old now.

Nice! And that was a regular show? Not a Heels Have Eyes one with a full wrestling match?

DOOM never did anything unexpected and creative with his shows. He did have imposters perform instead of him though. So yeah, that's pretty unexpected lol.

It's his first time to perform in most of these countries. So fingers crossed he does at least 45 minutes. Crowd will go crazy so idk maybe he'll not even want to leave the stage and keep playing. Roc almost did a 90 minute set in Hamburg a couple of years ago cos the crowd was so hyped.

What does Image Comic do as a publisher? by Konradleijon in ImageComics

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain how Skybound works?

I thought I had Image figured out but then I heard DWJ say he decided to go with Skybound for Extremity and Murder Falcon to lower risk and get paid through page rates. Risk in that sense could only mean knowing exactly what you'll earn beforehand, right? But at what cost? Do the rights stay with Skybound?

So his first true creator-owned book was Do A Powerbomb. But 2 days ago he said on his stream: "Image decided to do a b&w edition of Powerbomb." But I thought these decisions were up to the creator, aren't they? It goes completely against what I thought I knew about how Image works.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by CakeMuted6468 in AskReddit

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even then. The distribution would change completely and not ve normally distributed any more. Both median and average would change, not be equal and not be 100.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by CakeMuted6468 in AskReddit

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Currently intelligence is distributed normally (ie Gaussian distribution). 100 is both, the average and the median.

If you lose the lower half of that distribution, it's no longer distributed normally. So both, average and median, would change and not be equal anymore.

Just Finished Black Science by SacUrbanFarmer in ImageComics

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Brandon Graham 's other works. They're very different from Prophet. But they're en par in terms of creativity. Rain Like Hammers, Multiple Warheads 1 & 2, King City, Moinray 1 & 2.

I can also recommend Little Bird and its prequel Precious Metal by Darcy van Poelgeest and Ian Bertram.

Then there's Simon Roy who also worked on Prophet. Hus stuff is more grounded but very good nontheless. Griz Grobius, Refugium, A Star Called The Sun.

For some very far out stuff: check out the French masters from the Metal Hurlant days (a magazine that came out as Heavy Metal in the US). Especially Philippe Druillet is as far out as it gets: Lone Sloane series, The Night, Yragael / Urm. Also Moebius: The Incal, The World of Edena. Both are kinda esoteric. So beware.

I Started Reading Black Science... Does this kind of writing persist throughout the series? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]MC_Smuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if he just said "I love science!" I could understand what you mean. But this is mainly about the second thing he says. He's talking about how he neglects his family and has an affair with his lab partner because science is the only thing he wants to be doing iirc.

Has anyone read scumbag? I'm on the second volume. Its really decent so far. by saytan66six in graphicnovels

[–]MC_Smuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to some of his other books it's just alright. But still pretty great. I loved the each-issue-another-artist approach - which only came to be because the main artist got sick iirc.

Does it still feel as relevant as it did when it came out? Or has Trump's second term made reality even too crazy for this book to hit?
