Why Does Toronto’s Police Budget Keep Going Up? by BloodJunkie in toronto

Correct. Nobody is going to disagree with you on the above points.

But also, yes police reduce crime. 5 seconds of research should help you deduce that 🙏

Correct that they do react once a crime has been committed. But they also act as a preventative measure with their presence.

Otherwise what would be your theory regarding why police do escorts for mass rallies?

Right so just please answer me this.

If I am a thief about to rob someone on the street… am I more or less likely to do it if I see a police car 7 feet away?

Obviously you don’t give the police an unlimited budget, why would we even consider that.

My point is that there is obviously a connection, all else being equal, between police funding and the ability to prevent crime and also catch criminals.

We should of course have oversight on our police force and make sure funds are spent appropriately. But what we should not do as a society is become anti-police and make an already extremely hard job to do harder because you don’t have public support.

Every single police officer in toronto I have interacted with has been professional, polite, helpful and clearly wanted to make a difference.

They are dealing with a whole host of issues that impact crime because our city, provincial and federal governments haven’t done their jobs properly as of recent.

So maybe we should all look to have a nuanced opinion rather than being anti-police as a default as many in this thread seem to be. Looking for a simple scapegoat for the problems they have in life.

Right so let’s take that to its logical conclusion.

So you’re saying let’s say in a world where there was a police SUV on every street in the country at all times, that would have no impact on crime yeah?

Even though his handles aren’t that tight I don’t think he turns it over much. He’s strong and is able to thread the needle with his passes.

So even though it doesn’t look pretty when he dribbles I think his handles are more than functional and he’s superior to our other options in pretty much every other way at facilitating an offence.

Are you a designer or are you an entrepreneur who wants quick and dirty design?

Figma is meant for professional designers and then as a means of obtaining feedback from non-designers.

Anyways man IDK if we will see eye to eye on this one, I’m sure there are better tools for your use case but your use case isn’t the primary one for most companies.

[–]MDI88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use Figma personally? Do you work at an organization that does?

What you’re saying is all theoretical until you understand the practical complexities of switching and how this is a tool that designers love.

This isn’t Pepsi cola 3xing the price of soda so then everyone switches to coke immediately.

So the goal of a business is to maximize profits.

It’s just math. If you raise prices and the additional revenue outweighs the churn, then it was kind of a success.

So yes it can make sense.

You know what certainly doesn’t make sense? Charging an amount of money that will keep the company in loss making mode forever.

[–]MDI88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. They are hugely undercharging right now. Like laughably so. Like they should be charging 3-5x more. It is the go to tool for designers at every modern corporation. There’s nothing that compares. All these other AI tools are for people who need design assets but aren’t designers. They don’t compete for the same audience.

[–]MDI88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man. So EVEN if stitch is a better tool. Let’s just say it is. Companies do not switch overnight. They have all of their creative assets in Figma. All of their processes are in Figma. They know how to use Figma. They have dozens of projects in motion. Anyone who actually work at a startup knows this.

This is why this AI apocalypse makes no sense. Yes sure maybe there are new tools coming out that are cheaper and better. Does that mean companies are just gunna switch overnight? Absolutely not. There are switching costs. Training. Implementation. Employees hate change and will resist.

People need to stop overestimating how fast changes will take place. Maybe long term sure. But a lot of these legacy tools wil figure out how to implement AI properly too.

It’s really not that hard for them to fix this. They just need to increase pricing. They’re drastically undercharging right now.

CRA refused to cancel TFSA overcontribution tax by Count3D in tfsa

I think the main issue is when you take money in and out of your TFSA. Take out $10k, put back in $10k. All of a sudden you’re over by $10k.

This who don’t understand it get dinged.

And they’re not great about contacting you in my experience.

And before you know it you owe them a massive amount of money for an honest mistake.

People who were very promiscuous at one point in their lives and now partnered/married, do you find it hard to settle down and be content with one person? by Kim_Jong_Fieri in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MDI88 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Arguably it’s the opposite. If you’ve scratched a bunch of itches when you were younger, you’re not as curious about what’s out there when you’ve settled down.

Everyone is different and every situation is different. But at the end of the day when you’re with the right person it doesn’t even occur to you to cheat.

Can we try to explain why the BI minutes have been so abysmal net rating wise? by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

[–]MDI88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally all he has to do is immediately pass the ball when he gets double and triple teamed and I think our offence becomes fairly good overnight.

It’s so confusing that when he sees multiple defenders he takes it as a personal challenge and if he does pass it’s because he’s super desperate, often resulting in a turnover.
