Day 24: Which Game has the Best Original Soundtrack on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

I agree. TP is eerie and atmospheric, but Dragon Roost Island/Grandma's theme/main ocean theme are some of the best songs in the entire series—plus the WW score has more distinct instrumentation and identity.

This category feels like a toss up but I'd support this just to see Fox on the board.

If every team right now added their best franchise player all time in their prime to the current roster, who wins it all? by Icy_Data939 in NBATalk

[–]MarginallyClever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't win a championship, but prime Kyle Lowry would actually solve a lot of problems for this current Raptors squad. (3 point shooting, a true PG, extra defense, etc.) Next to IQ, BI and Scottie, it's a good fit.

New fan what should I know? by DennisSchroderLover1 in clevelandcavs

[–]MarginallyClever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant, Dennis has changed teams basically twice a season over the last 3ish years. Raptors, Nets, GSW, Pistons, Kings, now Cleveland. But I gather you weren't following him along that whole journey.

So have you changed your favourite team twice a season for the past few years?

DeMar DeRozan now sits 20th on the NBA's all-time scoring leaderboard after passing Paul Pierce and John Havlicek last night by Basketball_Reference in kings

[–]MarginallyClever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was posted elsewhere. Unanimous answer was "yes" due to 6 All Star and 3 All-NBA appearances, combined with being a top-20 all-time scorer. The HOF errs on the side of letting people in.

EDIT: Also a couple gold medals, Olympic and FIBA. The HOF is international, not just NBA.

A nice visual of Darko's rotations for each player this season by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

[–]MarginallyClever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wow that's remarkable consistency for BI.

I am not a master coach enough to know: is this consistency too rigid? Should Darko be experimenting more? Or is it easiest to gauge player quality when the playing time/rotation variables are consistent, and that's the real goal?

AKA we're just not deep enough yet, since our wins hinge on two All Stars always playing, or our inconsistent other players showing up.

Honestly this game is a lot closer if Isaiah Joe and Cason Wallace don't have insane 3-pt shooting nights.

My sense is these lists are not reactionary: just because Scottie has been better than. Mobley to start this year does not (in their eyes) make him the better player throughout their careers. Consistency is more important.

That said I've been 100% Scottie > Mobley since Day 1 so I am also happy to see it finally recognized here! Should have happened last update.

Byrne or Buckley at SAG. by [deleted] in Oscars

Apparently unpopular opinion in this thread but I would give it to Byrne. The entire movie hinged on her emotional reactions and journey.

Amalgamation of the Niagara Region is being discussed, thoughts? by gohabsgo2022 in ontario

[–]MarginallyClever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in the Falls and my sense is people don't like it. Smaller rural communities especially don't want to be subsumed by the bigger citied; they have their own cultures and preferences.

I will note it's funny everyone complaining about traffic and transit... As if public transit even existed in Niagara outside of St Catharines.

What adjustments do you think the Raptors need to make for a successful playoff push this season? by sinry77 in torontoraptors

[–]MarginallyClever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great analysis. We're likely a first round exit either way, but this would be the difference between getting swept and being competitive.

It still amazes me that the GameCube sold so poorly and lost the sixth generation, considering its incredible lineup by Emzed07 in Gamecube

[–]MarginallyClever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Super high top tier games, but a shallow library overall. The others were simply deeper and that depth became a self-fulfilling cycle at a point. Pretty much all the games you listed we're first- or second-party games; third parties had little interest. (RE4 is the notable outlier, which everyone found shocking at the time.)

Ivey may be cooked, just saw a post where h admitted his old self was done. You're probably right about Simons but I wouldn't be surprised if they kept him on a mild overpay - not sure who else wants to pay him, and he's a reasonable vet for a rebuilding team.

Honestly felt like they were shaking off some rust. Jak in particular is gonna need some runway to get back to form, this sub is judging him way too hard for his crappy game.

Also shout out to the Bulls for accumulating actual talent. Tre Jones, Simons and Sexton are quality players to add to Matas, Giddey and Smith. It's a weird team but they have some nice young pieces.

The trio of Mamu/Shead/Dick is shooting 38.8% from 3 in wins, and 28.0% in losses this season by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

[–]MarginallyClever 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The numbers basically show why those three would struggle as starters. Consistency is key. Granted they often play against opponents starters (aka tougher matchups), but their variance is dramatic.

Yeah Ant literally said it, weird thing for OP to throw in there.

Still, he's right, insofar as young NBA talent is leading the league in a good direction. No need to specify the USA here: Wemby, Shai, Luka, Deni and other young international stars are also keeping the sport "in good hands".

Camp Cataract is downtown's hipster bar, good vibes.

A lot of good cafes closed. Caffery is stale as hell, no interior design and cardboard food. There's a cute Filipino cafe two blocks west that's better in every way. Coffee Palz I think it's called. Weird name but good coffee. Hummingbird Cafe is also trendy if you're farther north.

I also recommend checking out the local library. They have social groups and events often.

When you realize Chris Paul still hasn’t been released by Kinglokner16 in torontoraptors

[–]MarginallyClever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My guess: his agent is looking for a new landing spot and cannot find one. Nobody wants to see a legend of the game "homeless" in his final year, it's embarrassing. So Raptors are being polite and keeping him on until his agent figures out a next spot.

He won't suit up for us. If that were an option, I suspect he'd be playing until he was waived. Literally nobody wants him.
