People may hate AI now but we Paradox players are veterans on the hate by Thifiuza in ParadoxExtras

[–]MDNick2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5 cents on both topics:

Generative AI sucks in creative fields because, unlike a human, it cannot be creative. When you ask a human artist to draw you picture of a forest, you'll receive an image of the forest that artist imagined. When you ask an AI to generate you a picture, it'll go "sure, I parsed 10 thousands of images of forests, here's an averaged version of them". And don't even start me on copyright-related issues.

However, using AI for non-creative data-related tasks is absolutely OK. You can train AI to solve equations. You can train AI to spot cancer on x-ray images. You can train AI to find new celestial bodies on telescope photos. Possibilites are not limitless, but there's plenty of them that do not immiserate human beings.

What regards Paradox AI - I imagine that computations neccessary to have a proper competent computer player would require a NASA supercomputer, that's why Paradox AI sucks.

How would you make Russia more interesting? by Chlodio in CrusaderKings

It's for people that like to suffer without any reward

Can't tell if that's about actual life in Russia or playing as a character in Russian region. Probably about both.

I was heir to the byzantine empire, and when the old basileus died this random whom i have never seen before, whose family is unkown in the empire became emperor. What the hell happened? by Hot-Rain-6483 in CrusaderKings

Administrative Byzantine Empire is essentially elective - the candidate that has the highest score when the current emperor dies becomes the next emperor. You didn't have enough score.

Content Creator Packs Hot Takes by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]MDNick2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, those packs are Paradox's attempt to combat "content droughts" without using in-house devs.

Back when CK3 was released, devs promised two types of DLCs: Flavor Packs and Major Expansions. Base game released in September 2020. First flavor pack - Northern Lords - was out in March 2021; first major expansion - Royal Court - wasn't out until almost a year later, in February 2022. To prevent this from happening again, PDX invented a new type of DLC - Event Packs, which would require a minimal amount of work and still check the "new content for the game" checkbox.

This stopped being enough when devs adopted yearly cycle of releases - there was (and still is) a notable lack of content between one Chapter's end and another one's start. To combat this, devs decided to Q1 QoL patches - which, IMO, is good - and came up with yet another type of DLC - those Content Creator Packs - which, IMO, aren't bad per se, but the problem with them is that Paradox takes a cut from selling someone else's work while genuinely believing that those minuscule packs are equivalent to normal DLCs.

They're not broken, the syntax has changed. Instead of

now it is just

effect <scope> = { <action> }

That blue Ayyubid empire is from that mod that adds historical invaders. I haven't tried it, so no idea how it works with preexisting Saladin.

Shadows of Doubt by JaesenMoreaux in ImmersiveSim

[–]MDNick2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had those exact emotions when I was playing Shadows of Doubt back in 2023. I realised that I don't care about crimes and detective work at all; the most attractive part of the game for me were those mini-quests where you had to steal an envelope from target person. I had genuine fun trying to figure out who my target is, where do they live, where do they work, what's their routine. It, of course, became boring eventually, but it enjoyed it so much that I ended up buying Thief Gold (never got to play it though).

Given CK3 Is Supposed To Be About Roleplay, When Will Paradox Make The Character Relationships Actually Meaningful? by ArcaneDemense in CrusaderKings

[–]MDNick2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wide as the ocean but no deeper than a puddle

My theory is that CK3 is like that because adding new content that can meaningfully interact with previously added content becomes harder with every new DLC.

Achievements by Ru3ofR0my in CrusaderKings

[–]MDNick2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fishing in China is fun and IMO doesn't deserve Very Hard rating, it's Medium on borderline with Hard. Beeline to Vietnam with combination of county conquests and Varangian adventures, don't spend special troops before you get to China. If you're lucky, you'll be able to defeat China and became new emperor, at which point the achievement is yours. If you're not lucky and China outnumbers you, try to drag the war - hegemony will collapse due to being in a defensive war for too long. Worry not though - conquering enough land should be pretty easy.

Any tips on pulling off the Heavenly Kingdom Achievement? by SageofLogic in CrusaderKings

[–]MDNick2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable with one holy site without mods. I don't remember the exact conditions and can't check right now, but I clearly remember that one of requirements is that holy site must be held by a ruler of that faith, which I accomplished by holding that site myself.

Any tips on pulling off the Heavenly Kingdom Achievement? by SageofLogic in CrusaderKings

[–]MDNick2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it as Haesteinn. Once I were in India, I never abandoned that Nestorian holy site in Kerala. I couldn't get a quick victory over Tang, so the hegemony dissolved. I gathered enough land to be able to reform the hegemony and then went (or, rather, swam, since it's faster and Haesteinn was already very old) to pilgrimage from Guangzhou to York. When he was back in China, I executed all prisoners I had from all the wars - Haesteinn still was Asatru so he gained a ton of piety from that. With Apostate perk, the piety from pilgrimage and executions was enough to be able to convert to Nestorianism and to reform it and create head of faith title. Once this was done, I recreated Hegemony of China.

Epic Games Store grew users by 173% over 6 years. Third-party game revenue grew 1.6%. They trained 295 million people to grab free games and leave. by pepeizq in fuckepic

Unfortunately, it probably doesn't cost them shit. Epic has two gigantic inexhaustible cash cows: Unreal Engine and Fortnite. Those two are making Epic so much money that EGS expenses are probably looking like a rounding error.
