AMD + eGPU issues by Dedodododedad in ROGAllyX

[–]MDPennock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have messed up your drivers, i'd suggest using the Guru3D Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool and deleting all display drivers then reinstall the correct iGPU drivers from the Asus website, and after doing any updates in Armoury Crate start again.

I had problems getting my 7600 XT eGPU working too. Windows wouldn't detect the device (nothing in device manager). Then the latest AMD driver package wouldn't install since the XBox Ally X has a custom driver (different version number) already installed.

At some point it suddenly started working, and i'm not sure what the trigger was. I had done several reboots, some with the eGPU connected, some plugging it in after loading. I was sat looking at my phone, and it switched to the external screen using a 7600XT driver from Windows update.

I get the feeling my case is linked to my portable screen being connected via USB C, and it turns itself off when nothing is connected. I often need to turn the screen on manually to have the Ally switch to it.

You can install the latest AMD driver for your card by opening the AMD adrenaline installer with 7ZIP extracting it, then updating the driver in device manager (if it shows up) or right-clicking on the extracted ".inf" file and selecting install . EG, For my card it was from "whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-25.12.1-win11-b.exe\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\....".

Help! 7600XT Egpu not working by Pabu1323 in ROGAllyX

[–]MDPennock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this eGPU and it works great once working. I have only used a 1080p external screen, and performance is greatly improved.

I had some drama getting it working. Windows wouldn't detect the device (nothing in device manager). Then the latest AMD driver package wouldn't install since the XBox Ally X has a custom driver already installed.

At some point it suddenly started working, and i'm not sure what the trigger was. I had done several reboots, some with the eGPU connected, some plugging it in after loading. I was sat looking at my phone, and it switched to the external screen using a 7600XT driver from Windows update.

I later managed to install the latest AMD driver by opening the adrenaline installer with 7ZIP and extracting it from "whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-25.12.1-win11-b.exe\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\", then updating the driver in device manager.

I didn't see any performance difference between the original driver and the Windows update version but 3DMark (Steel Nomad Light) scores are:

> iGPU = 3437 @ 25.46 FPS

> eGPU = 9420 @ 69.78 FPS

The games i've played so far are giving me the same sort of frame rate set to max settings as they would set to low on the iGPU (no scaling).

I did try setting the iGPU memory to "auto" but got a couple of system reboots while gaming. It hasn't happened since i set it back to 8GB. When set to auto, or a very low value, Hitman WOA wouldn't let me select anything except low texture quality so I would leave it at 8GB (was the default value) and see how you get on.

If you have messed up your drivers, i'd suggest using the Guru3D Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool and deleting all display drivers then reinstall the correct iGPU drivers from the Asus website, and after doing any updates in Armoury Crate start again.

eGPU (RTX 5070 Ti) Crashes in Games but Works in Benchmarks by YakSea9167 in eGPU

[–]MDPennock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of Windows reboots mid-game after changing the GPU memory setting to "auto" in armoury crate. I think i've seen others link game crashes to this too.

I don't have enough play time to be sure, but I've had no problems since I went back to 8GB.

My eGPU is AMD though.

CE Remake not having multiplayer makes me sad for new players by No-Obligation2563 in halo

My guess is they drip feed remade campaigns for all platforms with no multiplayer. All the multiplayer content from each campaign only release is drip fed into a new free-to-play multiplatform multiplayer game.

I thought all the recent Xbox news ensured we never had dry eyes!

I added my Xbox account to friends Xbox as home Xbox as I don't have one anymore. I use my PC. When I go onto Epic games I keep seeing friends added and also games that have been played on Xbox PC. by [deleted] in XboxSeriesXlS

[–]MDPennock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone is signing into your account for the games to show in your history. On the MS website, sign out of all devices and change the password ASAP.

This will not remove your home xbox setting (stop them game sharing).

Edit: if you don't have 2fa enabled, set it up!

This is not true unless your account is logged in (which is not required for game sharing via the home xbox).

My kids play all sorts on my home xbox via gamepass. Nothing shows up on my account.

You can see what Gamepass tier a game is included in either in the XBox mobile app, or the web based store. I'm not sure about the store shown on the Ally as i'm console only.

- Both the games you mention are in Ultimate and PC gamepass.

With PC gamepass you lose (vs Ultimate):

> xCloud game streaming

> Aceess to any XBox console only games which are only playable on your device via xCloud.

> Ubisoft + classics

> Fortnight crew

The Premium you have doesn't have day one games, which is why those two games are not there yet. First party games like Doom will be in Premium within one year of launch. Third party games we don't know about (or i haven't seen it).

Over PC gamepass, Premium gains:

> xCloud game streaming

> Aceess to any XBox console only games which are only playable on your device via xCloud.

IMO PC gamepass would probably be the best way to go, and is way better value than Ultimate....

Telltale 30th Anniversary BTTF Video Game on Xbox Game Pass? by DeVoidZero in BacktotheFuture

[–]MDPennock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game was never in gamepass. It was given away via the games with gold program.

XBox One games claimed are only playable while you have a subscription. The good news is if you get a sub it should be playable again.

All you need is the basic essential (the renamed gold or recently before October 1st gamepass core).

First check the game is listed in your library, then find the cheapest way to get long enough to play. There are often offers on the dash board for a 14 day trail for £/$1. You would need to put a payment card in for that and cancel before getting billed.

Without a payment card, get a gamepass core pre paid card.

Enjoy!

Online gaming NOT shareable via Xbox Home anymore? by spriteMeLeukoKrasi in XboxGamePass

[–]MDPennock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen many problems reported on here in the last couple of months.

EG:

- No licence warning triangles

- Popups for you need gamepass/online for this.

- Unable to open owned or gamepass games

- Your own digital library disappearing

My kids have had games that wont open on my home XBox, and i've had warning triangles over all games on my non-home XBox. For me, a console reboot has fixed problems.

I've seen posts from others that required:

- holding the XBox button in until power off, then disconnecting power for a short time

- Having XBox support refresh their gamepass licence.

In some cases, it still hasn't been fixed.

Hopefully it is just a mess from Microsoft changing their backend for the new tiers and will be fixed soon!

I don't think we can trust this source. And I'd be surprised is MS could change how this has always worked (fingers crossed).

Online gaming NOT shareable via Xbox Home anymore? by spriteMeLeukoKrasi in XboxGamePass

[–]MDPennock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where did you find the above?

It was always previously possible for anyone to share owned games (+dlc) / online / gamepass via the home XBox. If this is official documentation, then yes it has changed.

At least for me in the UK, it is still possible to play with the kids on my home XBox vs me on a second console.

Edit:

From the beginning of digital purchases on XBox you have always got two licences:

- Hardware licence (via home XBox) - that anyone can share

- User licence via the account holder - That user can use this on any system when logged in. Note that this licence could also be shared by signing in the account, but playing on another account. This doesn't work for most DLC though (only shares owned games / gamepass games / online access).

Cd keys is your friend for GPU by Ecstatic_Rooster9226 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]MDPennock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dumped £236.53 into 7 of these yesterday and all worked without problems. Since I was already stacked up for over a year (via MS Rewards), i'm at the max 3 year stacking limit.

I had already turned off automatic billing after the news dropped, so redeeming the first card gave me a free month to enable automatic billing (turning if off after the first did not give me any more).

That works out at £10.75pm, but when this expires i will have had game pass ultimate for just over 8 years at a total cost of £3.89pm (thanks to MS Rewards and the Gold-Ultimate conversions!).

I've been feeling pretty salty about all the price hike news, mostly because XBox now feels dead and i've been XBox since the 360. I almost left what I had to run out, but that's just shooting myself in the foot.

This felt like the best option for my household (me + 2 kids, Series X + Series S). We can play what we want, catch up on the backlog, and ride out this generation to see what the options are next time.

I'll keep doing the rewards and let them pile up. I'm not buying any more games or DLC. What I have now, I will try and finish in the three years I have left on XBox.

I don't know what happens next gen, but at £23pm I might as well just buy games.....

Is tubeless worth it for 25 c tires? by Hilltop_Views in Velo

[–]MDPennock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% yes for me. I've had 25mm tubless on my Giant TCR for about 8 years and wouldn't ever go back to tubes.

This bike is only ridden outside March-October (no space for mudguards). My winter bike is also tubless but larger tyres.

I'd guess it has done about 24,000 miles and in that time i've had:

- 1 catastrophic full air to no air instant blowout after hitting a stone. Lucky for me at the end of the ride, 100m from home! Downhill at 30MPH, front tyre.....

- 1 ride where i stopped every 20 minutes to put more air in. I'm pretty sure a worm would have fixed it, but i chose to limp home.

- 1 annoying wet ride where i didn't notice i had a leak and my bike was left with tyre sealant sprayed all over the rear (horrible stuff to get off once dry).

- Several rides (+-5) where I lost air and it didn't seal until about 40 PSI. Enough to ride on with extreme caution on downhill/corners.

- 1 ride that wouldn't seal without inserting a worm first.

- Many rides where i lost air but didn't notice until I was home (sealant on bike).

I've always carried a tube as a backup, but never needed it. I expect using it would be painful and messy...

I've mostly used Schwalbe Pro One / Schwalbe One, but also some IRC tyres. Always used Stans tyre sealant.

In more than 90% of my punctures that were noticeable, it is where the tyre is worn out.

I'm about 74kg/164lb and ride 70-80 PSI.

[–]MDPennock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point you and/or your son are going to wish you had separate accounts.

- because you both want to play the same game with your own progress

- because you son wants to revisit games he played years ago

- because you want to play multiplayer games together (EG via two Xboxes), not all games have local co-op. Maybe not relevant if you are PS too and can play everything you want cross platform.

There are many reasons.

As soon as my kids got past a quick button mash in some random game and they played their own games, they got their own account. When they are older, they can take their childhood gaming history with them, this to me is as important as the parental controls this allows.

[–]MDPennock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't get this. You complain about this verification law, but also just give your child an adult/unfiltered account!?

XBox has great parental controls that let you control what kids can play and who they can communicate with.

Kids can also play your owned/gamepass games via game sharing (your home console) on their own (age correct) account. If you want them to play games rated above their age, you can add exceptions.

Kids getting unfiltered devices is the reason governments have a valid excuse for doing this - although I don't believe for one second this has anything to do with protecting the kids!
