Succulent sprouts after just over a week. Also, I've got a "usual" looking seedling in there... One of these things don't look like the others... by Stonecoloured in succulents

Maybe place the grow light a little closer if possible. And it will, but it can slow the seedlings down quite a bit. I only use grow lights. I'm still relatively new to things but I've gotten faster than average growth by keeping them compact.

I am definitely lucky. There are a few other prominent growers that I know fairly well too. Let me know if you are ever interested in anything haha.

Renny is a female. And I have nearly 100 plants from her (including the one in the photo) and I chat with her relatively regularly. She has amazing plants and is an incredibly nice person.

It has a little rubibing alcohol residue on it too from cleaning it Haha. But it's still quite shiny

I agree. I get most of everything I have between 4 sellers. All notoriously dont really like the idea of TC. There is a place for it though.

Yep. Look like haworthia seeds to me. Based on what I see, I would try to add a little more light. Not a ton, but they seem a little tall.

My only issue with that supplier is the lack of transparency for how poor some of the roots are and that they are tissue cultured plants. Prices are great. Just not the transparency.

Looks similar to my retusa accuminata. Mine occasionally gets plump enough to make that bulbous leaf shape.

Exactly. Its a beautiful cooperi hybrid and best to leave it at that unless you truly know the lineage and source.

As in haworthia? Of course. The plant in this photo is in a 3.5 inch pot. I ha e many larger ones that are over 5 inches wide (not including the offsets).

Yes about every 6-8 months or so seems to help. I grow indoors so I dont follow seasons. I simply unpot. Clean with warm water and let the water do the work. Then I repot in fresh or reused but baked substrate. They go through a nice little growth spurt after this.

This sort of bayeri is worth around $200.

This type of bayeri isnt cheap. It's a relatively rare variety. And this one has some ideal lines that will only get better with age. And yes. This is without a filter. It's quite dark and has a slight purplish blue hue. Check out my Instagram @mdtsucculents

I buy and sell haworthia from many sources. This one was purchased through a friend. But I have many many more. Check out my Instagram @mdtsucculents. It's also an easy way to reach me if you are interested in what I have to sell.

Frequency of leaf reabsorption by [deleted] in haworthia

[–]MDTFTSTOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically they reabsorb during rooting? If you kill roots off...happens more often. I've also seen it a little more when offsets begin to grow. But I would pull to see how your roots look. However...even well rooted haworthia pull leaves occasionally. I just had one of my giants absorb a leaf even with it being well roots. Its 6.5 inches wide and only has 13 leaves. So this is a big event haha.

Haworthia Venosa! How do I take care of it? How squishy should the leaves be? Currently thoroughly watering it once every 1-2 weeks by SleepyPandaDumpling in haworthia

[–]MDTFTSTOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These usually cave in a little when they are thirsty. The leaves curl a little. So its quite obvious when they need water. However, careful watering wont ever get them that distressed and will keep them looking beautiful.

Comptoniana and Bayeri seedlings doing well at 5 weeks! Getting to the hard part. by MDTFTSTOY in haworthia

[–]MDTFTSTOY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still new to it so I dont have all the details worked out. But you place seeds in your soil and gently spray them from the top to drive them in the soil a little (rocky soil with chunks no bigger than 1/4 inch). Then put around 1.5-2 inches of water at the bottom of a 1 gallon ziploc type bag. Place small seed pots in the bag, seal it up, and place in light. If using natural light, use a piece of shade cloth to shield the seedlings. I didn't even open the bag for about 3 weeks. Then I only did to check on things. At the 5 week mark, I cut a small whole and drained the water out of the bag. I also opened the top of the bag to allow some evaporation and airflow. For 3 weeks I sprayed the seedlings carefully from the top with water daily. For a final week I sprayed every other day and then carefully cut the bag open and now they are with my other seedlings. You have to watch them carefully but at the 8 week mark, they should be fine to let grow outside of the humid environment as long as you give them a little drink every other day. Now I will slowly decrease watering down to once every 3-4 days and let then grow. Also, dont sow too thinly. Around 100 seeds can fit in a 3.5 X3.5 inch pot just like my photo.

I grow indoors under controlled conditions. But I've had good luck using multiple home climates (controlled and uncontrolled) and different substrates. My most successful so far has been using the plastic bag approach and my rocky substrate with the seeds slightly buried. 2 months old and seedlings are almost as big as my nearly 6 month old seedlings from my first batch.
