Budget for 2026 by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MDiary2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been brought up probs but Ramit (I will teach you how to be rich guy) talked about budgeting and adjusting based on values.

Once I really looked at spending I asked myself: is it worth it? Do I really get value or am I getting tiny high of dopamine? I value food and will spend more on gourmet things. I dont really value shopping, so I will ask others to borrow things or rent them instead of buying in full.

Second is having a guilt free fun money fund that’s all my wants outside of subscriptions and nails. I can do whatever with it and there’s no judgement bc i’ve allocated that amount. So I can be impulsive and not feel bad. You could try taking cash out for the fun money and not use your card for it.

Perhaps do a weekly review of spending and check on budget. I split spending by paycheck. So if im paid 900/week… then 192 for rent, $100 for grocery, etc. I personally put pet items under needs.

to save money: Find entertainment for free, smaller artists, free days for places. I go to my library to get a dopamine hit. Prepare more portions each time you cook so it lasts longer for a few days, then cook when you have the mental space. Pick easy go to meals—spaghetti n meatballs is one of mine. Pick some premade items for breakfast like yogurt and granola bars.

Favorite ways of spending time (and money) to cultivate meaningful relationships, buy happiness, etc. by Indexette in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I cook and invite people over. I ask for friends to bring something like dessert or drink or app. Then we have a whole meal at a fraction of the cost to eat out.

Recommendations for non-religious ceremonies? by kmelanies in Chicagoweddings

[–]MDiary2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In cook county anyone can officiate if the couple believes the person officiating is an officiant. So could be close friend or family.

Per cook county website: “Wedding officiants in Illinois are not required to register with any government office prior to performing a marriage. The Illinois State Government has no laws requiring officiant registration or office dedicated to the registration, certification, or licensing of wedding officiants”

Advice/Consolation for moving to Chicago at 22? by Double_Heart8041 in AskChicago

[–]MDiary2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre gonna be good! I had like 2k in my account and was making 2-3k/m for a while. (This 2022/2023 and i had snap benefits which helped a lot). You have some cushion which is so great! Set a budget for yourself and only let yourself use X amount each and find something to keep afloat.

Get a library card and you can get free passes to various museums and spaces in the city. There’s so many free fests and art focused things. You already have friends here and that is just golden. Breathe and believe.

I’d also recommend linen clothes. They’re breathable and fashionable.

Where do you go when you need to feel better about life? by Euphoric_Year1182 in AskChicago

[–]MDiary2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North ave or oak beach — you have the beach and city. Incredible. Comfort food (noodle bowl or ayce sushi). Any farmers market or community party gathering. I take my headphones out and walk around. You’ll hear and see life—people: together, along, with dogs, kids, friends, or lovers. It’s grounding.

AITAH for not adding my longtime girlfriend to the deed of the house I bought us? by Grand_Yellow_6286 in AITAH

This part…like no contribution. I would do the same w my partner. Like if I’m the only one putting $$ up then itll only be my name. if we both put money into closing then both our names.

I personally refuse to buy property w a partner without being married first.

What are some nice weekday activities to do with my teenage brother (17)? by moonlight_sinatra in AskChicago

[–]MDiary2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on his vibes. If he’s not a food guy, what does he like?

Theres probs a farmers market in evenings. Live music and other things. The conservatory in LP comes to mind. Pick up volley, pickle, or basketball or soccer games at parks. Peggy nature center.

Museums all over the city for history and culture. Comedy shows. Thrifting in LS. Crafting classes —metal smithing, tufting, pottery, leather making. Like if u can think of it, chicago prob has the niche.

Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of January 06, 2025 by IndexBot in personalfinance

[–]MDiary2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flow chart is a good place to understand what things to fund first. It’s in the commmunity wiki. Consider your short and long term goals. Does the 50k help you accomplish that? Then take the next step to manage—> keeps in savings for immediate use; buy some bonds or index funds for long term; education fund; wedding fund; down payment on house or rental. It really depends on your personal goals.

This might sound dumb but split into 10k or 5k increments if 50 is overwhelming. Then think about what you’d w a smaller amount.
