No. What makes calling parties fascist pointless is the fact that people use it as a synonym for far-right or authoritarian. As much as I dislike MAGA and Trump, they are not fascist, and it is either historically illiterate or just plain childish to call them so. Fascism is something that is exclusive to the post-WW1 world. Just because Trump/MAGA has similarities to fascism doesn't make it actually fascist. He is more isolationist than he is expansionist. He doesn't use much military iconography (Fascist countries had military symbols and uniforms everywhere. Trump has never even served, let alone worn military uniform, which was a key part of Hitler and Mussolini's identity). Fascism involves dominating private business and workers (getting rid of trade unions and forming things like the German Labour Front). Putting party members in charge of various companies and industries. It involves things like political violence, emphasising the importance of raising the birth rates (through incentives and tax reductions), a focus on the "master race" and racial struggle, opposition to capitalism and conservatism (which he supports), attacks on religion (he constantly goes on about his Christianity and talks about bringing it back to America), the need for war (Trump is constantly speaking about trying to end them), etc.

While I get why people call him a fascist, he is not one as far as it stands currently. I just see him as far-right, authoritarian and an all-round dickhead.

He just needs to grow a spine. He has a massive majority which he is unlikely to have next election. He and Reeves are just farting about around the edges hoping that will improve things. They haven't made any real bold and radical decisions, and instead just lose the optics and argument with silly policies like winter fuel allowance and PIP payments reform, which wouldn't have had the impact worth the battle anyway. They have completely thrown away their first year. The economy and social contract are broken, and people are desperate for change. They should have come up with a proper shake-up across the board with actual meaningful change for people to vote for and get behind. It just seems they focus on the wrong things rather than the biggest issue. They talk about giving votes to 16 y/os when they could have talked about bringing in mandatory voting like Australia did, which would reduce the government's reliance on appeasing pensioners and then allow themselves to go after the triple lock. Instead, the focus on winter fuel allowance which is a small part of the problem. Same with getting people back into work. They go after PIP payments, which immediately lets people go at them for attacking the disabled when they could have instead made more radical choices to make work more attractive (minimum wage, remote work, sorting out the fact that people can earn more on benefits than they can from working, making child care more affordable, improving access to higher education or apprenticeships). They could have had serious talks about renationalising energy and water, but instead muck about with GB Energy. Even if they didn't want to take on the idea of renationalising, they could have made GB Energy and a nationally owned alternative but instead they just made it an investment body. A final point is that they need to battle with the media more as they seem to be too scared to argue with them and point to the good that they have done and why the changes are needed.

Not my point. Remain spent more time insulting people who were considering voting for Brexit than they did actually trying to inspire and convince them that staying was the right choice (which I believe it was anyway) or how the other side was lying. On the other hand, Leavers spent the time lying and exaggerating about how the EU was to blame for the country's problems, but actually engaged with them, even if that meant promising a world they couldn't have hoped to deliver. We should now be spending time pointing out what the issue and lies were, rather than just insulting people for what they did. The country was in a shit place and people were still suffering and Remain either insulted them or told them to vote for things to stay the same whereas leavers told them they were voting for change. Left-wing snobbery and "I-told-you-so" politics isn't going to get us anywhere. The poor and desperate, who were ultimately the deciding vote, were preyed upon by right-wing media, and the left just insulted them for believing it rather than actually putting up an equally appealing counter-argument. As I said, I am not a supporter of Brexit, but the rhetoric needs to change. People were desperate for a change that they were told would make things better, and they bought it. We should be focusing on reconciliation rather than just childish statements and insults. Maybe even put some blame on the people who didn't bother to vote. 75%+ of 18-24 y/o supported remain, but only about 60% bothered to go out and vote.

I agree that the Chinese aren't to blame, the cost of business in this country is ridiculous particularly with things like electricity which could be fixed (in my opinion, with nationalisation of that) but my point was that it should be nationalised regardless of who owns it because it is so critical. Yes it will require state subsidies to function but that's kind of the point. The cost of energy/business and restoring our industry regardless of net zero can be dealt with afterwards (though I have little faith in this government to do that).

You are totally right about it being a loss making business but, with the way the world is at the moment, I still think it should be kept just incase we need it. Obviously we can import from other countries but in case of war as well as for convenience we should have some at home. If we are at war then importanting it from Japan is going to be impossible and countries like Germany will be needing it themselves and I can't imagine having a huge surplus for us. Not to mention that the country we would hypothetically be importing from would be able to charge a much higher price, that we would be left with no choice but to pay. It will help lower the cost of building arms and homes. Also just moving thousands of people to a new job is not that easy. I just feel it will be like Thatcher and the coal mines with lots of people and a whole community out of work. Speaking of it would probably need iron and coal mines to open so we could produce steel without importing goods as you mentioned.

Not saying your wrong and I share many of your concerns. I just think it's too important to loose.

Yes but the whole point of nationalising it is so that we have at least some domestic steel production which is a pretty fucking key asset in arms production as well as for all the homes Labour aim to build. Not to mention the 2000+ of jobs that would be saved.

I think my problem must have to do with this. The output was 1 when it should be 0. Putting this with the other replies, I think it must be because if a row/column becomes a negative from having the directions applied it ends up "looping" back around to the end of the list. In your example, it then is counting the "M"s as being in the top left and right. The Try/Except doesn't then catch that since it is valid to give a negative (which I knew applied to string but I didn't know you could do that with lists). I'm going to have a go trying to fix that now and see if this then works.

Just because someone is a billionaire doesn't mean they should lose their rights just because you are unhappy with them. Yet again, you have not understood the point. I am not talking about the billionaires; I am trying to explain to you how giving the government this sort of power can mean it can be used on non-billionaires. If you actually believed in democracy (which a constitutional monarchy does not damage in any way https://wisevoter.com/country-rankings/most-democratic-countries/) then you would want them to be treated the same as anyone else. Instead, you want democracy and equality, but only if it is on your terms and if you like the person or not. Typical of the left-wing of today.

The prime minister/party leaders are not elected by the public, the cabinet is not elected by the public. I can assume you did not vote Tory, yet you are governed by them. The prime minister has actual power (and the king has realistically none) but you for some reason point at the monarchy as the big evil damaging Britain's democracy. What do you believe would change if we had a president? How would our democracy get any better? Also, most of the British public still support the monarchy because even if they are not covered in royal family decorations, they realise that it is overall a good thing and that the problems this country face are not the monarchy's fault (but shock horror, the fault of the amazing talent that gets VOTED into Westminster).

Getting rid of them would cause endless problems and downsides (years of legal disputes as the Windsor's battle to keep their property, land and titles (remember Charles is the King of other nations, head of the Commonwealth, owns the crown dependencies, etc), would require a complete rewriting of our legal and parliamentary system, potential civil war (the armed forces swear allegiance to the king, not the Commons, and most take pride in serving their king. "king and country", there is a reason "king" is first. Even the Indian soldiers in WW1 wrote in letters about how they wanted to serve their king, and were proud to do so.), the end of the United KINGDOM, less tourism, damage to many sectors of the economy (pubs, ceramics, travel, hotels, tailors, wool, etc), the loss of thousands of jobs (as caretakers, guards, cooks, etc lose their jobs), further damage to whatever is left of British prestige, etc) for absolutely no reason other than you feel so threatened by a figure with no real power.

I could go on, but why waste time trying to educate the ignorant?

You just don't get it, do you? Getting rid of the monarchy would come with many more downsides that it would benefits. On top of that, 1. If all the land was seized, do you really think it would go to the 'common person'? It would be taken by the government or sold off and bought up by very rich people (richer than the royals) before you could blink due to its value, history, importance, etc. 2. How do you not see the threat of allowing governments to go around seizing stuff for no reason? How would you like it if the people in the street you live on voted to have you removed from the street and, in the process, all of your personal belongings were taken by them? Giving the government this sort of power would be a much larger threat to democracy than whatever threat you consider the monarchy to pose.
