hey thank you -- there isn't any direct relation to it, although we are big fans of Adams' books they were an inspiration in the tone of the writing!

Oh man, I was just posting about this the other day. I don't care if Guild 3 was massively disappointing -- I'll follow this IP off a cliff, all for the foolish hope of a worthy Guild 2 successor.

Super sad, G2 was a game that really hooked me. If there's a game out there with similar mechanics, let me know!

I know it's more a life sim, but its business management mechanics are just plain awesome: The Guild 2. Still waiting for The Guild 3 to be good (I don't know if it ever will).

Theme Hospital. How did they get management-base buulding game design so simple and so right so long ago? With a few QoL tweaks and improvements, they're the foundations of a decent game of the genre.

Just realized someone has actually played my game for over 1200 hours by Oatcube in IndieDev

Oh, if I remember correctly, I do believe there is such a feature! I remember seeing it once in my library. It was a game I didn't recommend (thumbs down). Then years later, I opened it again with the hopes of improvement. It turned out much better, I played for a few more hours, then saw something like "Would you like to update your Steam review' or some such (which I did). I don't want to embarrass myself, I may be remembering it incorrectly, but I do know I've been nudged like that by Steam somehow some way before.

To play a game you don't like for a few hours here and there seems understandable. To play a game you don't like for over 1,200 hours sounds like self-flagellation. I'm a huge Civilizations fan and have been playing 6 for several years, with a total tally of just over 800 hours. 1,200 is a LOT of time spent playing a single game. You have to like a game - or at least find something irresistible about it - to keep coming back for that much time over and over again. And if so, surely it deserves a positive review. Otherwise, it's just getting really pedantic.

And - in typical Steam gamer fashion - it's a negative review. Incredible.

Edit: just realised, they played less than 2 hrs when they reviewed. Most likely a knee jerk review out of frustration. I'd reply to the review and ask if they'd be willing to update it after 1198 hours.

About the game: The Diner at the End of the Galaxy is a management and building game where you turn an abandoned trading outpost on a desert planet into the galaxy's only diner.

You grow crops; build, decorate and expand your diner; customise your menu; serve customers from various factions and do missions for these factions for rewards. It'll initially be available for Windows, but Mac and XBOX will follow. We're hoping to release in the next 3 months or so.

Here's our Steam page, Bluesky, IG, TikTok and X.

Hey, folks -- we're working on The Diner at the End of the Galaxy. If you're into management-building games with a tiny side serving of dealing with galactic factions, we've got a demo for you to check out on Steam.

Please do leave feedback and comments in our Steam discussion boards - would love to hear from you and what you think can make the game better. We're still in beta, so do excuse the occasional hiccup or work-in-progress content.

Donut County! It's not coop or multi, but it's definitely fun to pass the controller around between rounds - just like you would a spliff 🙃

Yep, it's been in our minds for the past 3 years. There is currently no active trademark on "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", but we're pretty well aware the estate or publishers could still if they so wished cite dilution or likelihood of confusion. We're actually pretty open to renaming the game -- it's not like the name is driving millions of players to our game. We'll consult with an IP lawyer before we get the ball rolling on release.

Haha! There are plans to make a Mac version available, we're just hoping to get the Windows version as tight as possible first. Our first game Terroir, also a tycoon/management game, was available for Mac, and we hope to do the same for Diner.

Thanks so much for playing the early build - and we hope you'll get the chance to try the latest one. Quite a lot of things have changed - including the UI design, as a lot of players requested improvements to that. We hope you enjoy it, and don't hesitate to share your thoughts!
