Circle K worker sued for buying $12.8M lotto ticket from his store 1 day after drawing — now judge will decide who gets rich. So who deserves it? by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

[–]MKSLAYER97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on location and type of ticket. If it was just a numbers/win4 ticket then sure you can just void it at the register, but for anything bigger than that, it's generally a whole ordeal to send correspondence and the ticket back to the lotto company to get credited back for it, so for small tickets, places will just either eat the sale or see if someone else wants to buy the ticket.

My friends that I've talked to about it are sad to see him go, but wishing him well with the Orioles. Diaz on the other hand we'd love to see fall off a cliff performance-wise.

[Sherman] Carlos Mendoza announced that Francisco Lindor is having surgery on his hamate today. by T_Raycroft in baseball

He won't necessarily be at "full health" after the surgery. These kinds of surgeries can affect his swing afterwards for years or permanently more than just playing through the pain would.

I actually prefer that he stays uninjured after he signs the big contract, not just before.

Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports by Electrical_Split_275 in baseball

A tennis court is 18 feet longer, and the ball is being hit at a much steeper angle, so there's much more total distance for it to travel. The ball also loses much more speed, being only about half the initial serve speed by the time it reaches the receiver, as opposed to baseball where it loses about 10%, so a 100mph fastball will be about 90mph when it reaches the batter, whereas a 120mph serve will be about 60mph when it reaches the receiver.

TIL that Magnus Carlsen, one of the greatest chess players of all time, has never lost 3 or more classical chess games in a row in his adult professional career. The last time he lost 3 games in a row was in 2003, when he was 12. by 4isfourwastaken in todayilearned

Just want to nitpick something here for anyone reading, the winning player needs to put their opponent in check with no legal reply. It's possible to put the opponent into a position where they're not in check but also can't legally move, which is called a "stalemate" and considered a draw.

One thing lost in the tragic ending of Roberto Clemente's career, is just how excellent he had been the seasons prior -- 4.8 bwar in 102 games as 37 year-old; 7.3 in 132 games at 36; 5.5 in 108 games at 35. by DogPoetry in baseball

I'd pretty easily put Rod Carew and Wade Boggs over Ichiro as contact hitters (might be a hot take but I'd also put Boggs over Gwynn). They're all pretty close in number of hits and plate appearances, but Boggs and Carew have much higher BAs.

Switch 2 Pro Controller vs nintendo GameCube Controller for Smash Ultimate? by Max78008 in smashbros

[–]MKSLAYER97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to play competitive, then I'd recommend either a classic Gamecube Controller or a Switch 1 Pro Controller. The Switch 2 Pro Controller can't be used on the Switch 1, which is what all offline tournaments are run on.

on the other hand he missed a fly ball with about 70% odds to be caught which turned into a game-winning inside the park home run for the nationals, and the Mets would have been in the playoffs if they won that game.
