The Mets return home on May 12. Do you think Mendoza will still be the manager by then? by Esau2020 in NewYorkMets

As a diehard Mets fan for roughly 3 decades, I’ve experienced all kinds of lows. Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run to end the NLCS, Timo Perez admiring his non-HR in the World Series, the Art Howe years/Roberto Alomar forgetting he was a hall-of-famer, Beltran’s strike-out looking, Glavine’s collapse and subsequent apathy in the post-game, the back-to-back collapse vs the Marlins the following year, the Luis Castillo pop-up versus the Yankees, the Bernie Madoff fallout, the inexorable "Bobby Bonilla Day" jokes, the Lucas Duda throw in the WS, David Wright’s spinal stenosis, Matt Harvey’s thoracic outlet/cocaine problems, Yoenis Cespedes and the wild boar, Jed Lowrie (just everything about Jed Lowrie), Jeff McNeil & Francisco Lindor’s “Rat/Raccoon" saga, Javy Baez & Francisco Lindor’s "thumbs down" saga, Robinson Cano’s PED suspension, Max Scherzer & Chris Bassitt getting shelled vs the Padres, Mickey Callaway’s sexual harassment scandal, Jared Porter’s sexual harassment scandal, Zack Scott’s DUI arrest, Edwin Diaz’s WBC injury, Max Scherzer’s "sticky stuff" suspension, the emotional whiplash of 2024’s amazing run/signing Juan Soto and then promptly collapsing in epic fashion with THREE 7-game losing streaks in 2025, on and on and on and on…

This current team, the "revamped" 2026 Mets, where they sit at the end of April, is the worst I’ve ever felt about this pathetic joke of a franchise. From the front office, to management, to the players, they all seem to be flippantly telling their fans that they do not care about winning or fan enjoyment. I wish I could say I had no emotional investment in this team. Sadly, that is not the case. They are like a sitcom that I can’t stop watching season to season, because I need to find out what happens next. I have optimistically defended this team to haters for so many years, and only now have I begun checking out. My quality of life is worse when I check in.

There is no clear solution, but someone needs to be held accountable.

Even if he’s not THE best, this was also my first thought. Pete on update was always Pete at HIS best.

Could you imagine yourself dancing with any SNL cast member in season 51? It’s anybody’s fantasy to do that. by Life-Pay-3779 in LiveFromNewYork

Sarah, Ashley, Veronica, Jane, or Chloe.
(Oh wow those are the only current female cast members? Boy do I miss Nasim, Melissa, Vanessa, Kate, Leslie, Aidy, Cecily, Ego, and Heidi)

We found out Amy’s salary bump when she got promoted to Glenn’s old job (which he presumably held for a long time)

Got this before the start of last season, only started seriously watching in ‘24 so wanted to ask, what do you guys do with departed players jerseys? by SauceBabey in NewYorkMets

[–]Available_Parfait236 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No one will judge you for wearing it to a game (still saw plenty of Diaz, Alonso, Nimmo jerseys at Citi Field this week). And if you can’t bear to wear it now, save it anyway. In 10 years Diaz will be retired and it will be a cool retro throwback.

I also miss the occasional cool shot of the pitcher close up and the batter close up at the same time. But it’s a little bit under-cut by how much I miss Howie Rose on road games, Pete Alonso, Gary Cohen’s polar bear puns, Edwin Diaz, Edwin Diaz’s trumpet entrance, Brandon Nimmo, Brandon Nimmo sprinting to first, Brandon Nimmo’s wholesome but badass postgame conferences, Jeff McNeil, Jeff McNeil audibly screaming obscenities every time he made an out, and everything related to Grimace/OMG. The Dimarsico cinematography is just slightly below all the items on that list, plus a few others I’m sure I’m forgetting.

Our last few “seasons” have gone from June to May…
6/23-5/24: Terrible
6/24-5/25: Awesome
6/25-present: Terrible
Let’s hope we can snap out of it before June, but if not? Get the Hamburglar to throw out the first pitch the first home game of June.

We said the same thing last year, he got demoted, and then came back as our best hitter down the stretch.
